
Major motorway CLOSED both ways near Glasgow as road locked down for hours
A MAJOR Scottish motorway has been closed in both directions following a crash.
The M77 northbound was initially locked down before 1am this morning between junction 5 and 6.

A short time later, it was then shut both ways.
The closure has since been extended from junction 5 to junction 8 northbound and southbound.
Drivers have been warned that surrounding routes are heavily congested.
Long delays are also expected in the area and traffic is currently at a standstill on approach.
Traffic Scotland wrote on X: "The M77 remains closed in both directions between J5-J8 due to a road traffic collision.
"Surrounding routes are heavily congested due to traffic diverting with long delays expected and standstill traffic on approach."

Teen in hospital with life-threatening injuries after M77 crash
Traffic cops are searching for information following a one-car collision on the major motorway's northbound carriageway. The incident happened near Junction 5 (Malletsheugh Interchange), which is south of Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire. Officers were alerted to the crash at around 12.10am on Wednesday, July 23. M77 closed at Fenwick, Ayrshire, due to the crash (Image: Newsquest) Police said the crash involved a grey Volkswagen Polo. After emergency crews arrived at the scene, the driver of the motor, a 19-year-old man, was taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Medics have since revealed the teen has life-threatening injuries. Following the incident, the road was closed for more than nine hours. It reopened at around 9.20am. 'If you were driving in the area at the time, please check dash-cam footage to see if you have captured anything that may help with our investigation.' A Police Scotland spokesperson added: Anyone who can assist is asked to contact [[Police Scotland]] on 101, quoting incident number 0034 of Wednesday, July 23, 2025." A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson added: 'We received a call at 12.22am to attend a road traffic collision on the M77. "We dispatched four ambulances to the scene, and we transported three patients to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.' During the incident, Traffic Scotland warned drivers of 'heavy delays' in the area due to the crash. Meanwhile, Stagecoach West Scotland said multiple of its services were experiencing 'severe delays'.
