Teen in hospital with life-threatening injuries after M77 crash
Traffic cops are searching for information following a one-car collision on the major motorway's northbound carriageway. The incident happened near Junction 5 (Malletsheugh Interchange), which is south of Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire. Officers were alerted to the crash at around 12.10am on Wednesday, July 23. M77 closed at Fenwick, Ayrshire, due to the crash (Image: Newsquest) Police said the crash involved a grey Volkswagen Polo. After emergency crews arrived at the scene, the driver of the motor, a 19-year-old man, was taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Medics have since revealed the teen has life-threatening injuries. Following the incident, the road was closed for more than nine hours. It reopened at around 9.20am. 'If you were driving in the area at the time, please check dash-cam footage to see if you have captured anything that may help with our investigation.' A Police Scotland spokesperson added: Anyone who can assist is asked to contact [[Police Scotland]] on 101, quoting incident number 0034 of Wednesday, July 23, 2025." A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson added: 'We received a call at 12.22am to attend a road traffic collision on the M77. "We dispatched four ambulances to the scene, and we transported three patients to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.' During the incident, Traffic Scotland warned drivers of 'heavy delays' in the area due to the crash. Meanwhile, Stagecoach West Scotland said multiple of its services were experiencing 'severe delays'.

A major motorway has been closed amid an ongoing emergency incident. The M77's northbound carriageway is currently shut between Junctions 5 (Malletsheugh Interchange) and 6 (Kingswell Interchange). At the moment, it is unclear if anyone has been injured during the incident. Due to the crash, traffic is currently backed up down the A77, which is located next to the M77. Northbound traffic is also being diverted via the A77, with the M77 being closed from Junction 7 (Fenwick Interchange). Midlothian collision triggers closures as rush hour drivers warned of delays
A Midlothian crash has triggered closures, with drivers warned of longer than normal journey times. The incident was first reported at around 7.45am on the A702 between Easter Howgate and Hillend. Motorists have been redirected on the A703. Traffic Scotland said traffic was slowing after the incident. The condition of those involved is not currently known. Third Scotland weather warning issued by Met Office
It is the third warning to be issued in the last few days, after the weekend saw two other warnings for rain and thunderstorms which affected much of the mainland. The new yellow warning for thunderstorms will come into effect at 11am on Monday and will end at 9pm. The alert will affect much of the mainland, with some parts of the Highlands, Western Isles and the north east spared. A yellow warning means that people can expect to see road closures, difficult driving conditions, flooding and potential powercuts. Traffic Scotland has warned motorists of difficult driving conditions and urged people to take care. Meanwhile, public transport may also be impacted by flooding. ScotRail said that while it aimed to operate a full timetable, the heavy rain and thunderstorm could lead to issues on the track, causing delays. The rail operator urged people to check their journey details before travelling.
