'Perfect' new Netflix show with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score has viewers 'hooked'
Netflix viewers have been raving about a new show, which has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes - and people are already begging for it to be renewed for another series
Netflix fans have been obsessing over a new show boasting a flawless 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. The series, called Forever, has taken social media platform X by storm, with viewers gushing about its perfection. Adapted from Judy Blume's novel of the same name, the show premiered on Netflix on May 8, 2025, and has already garnered immense praise. Set in 2018 Los Angeles, Forever tells the poignant tale of two young athletes, Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone) and Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr. ), as they navigate their first love.
The show has clearly resonated with audiences, who are eagerly calling for another series. One X user exclaimed: "Just finished ep 8 of Forever, and I don't know how to process that final scene. I need Netflix to renew this ASAP so that we can get Keisha and Justin back on our screens again to finish their love story. Black love stories DO matter!"
Another fan raved: "The music and the chemistry....chef's kiss. The most perfect show in all aspects. It's all I could wish for #ForeverNetflix."
A third viewer praised the show's creator, Mara Brock Akil, saying: "Moesha, Girlfriends, The Game, Being Mary Jane, #ForeverNetflix ...Mara Brock Akil has literally NEVER done me wrong when it comes to creating shows that become my all time favourites. Still early for Forever, with only one season out, but there's potential!"
Fans were ecstatic, as one viewer passionately exclaimed: "LET'S RENEW FOR SEASON TWO! I NEED MORE! LET'S GET PRODUCTION GOING."
Despite being out for barely a day (at the time of writing), the show has already nabbed a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Entranced, one viewer penned: "Absolutely loved it. Was hooked from first five minutes. Beautifully executed and worth the watch."
Another was all praise for the series, saying: "I LOVED IT. Their chemistry was top notch. The casting was sooooo good!
"I like that it just wasn't the love story, but the other family stories within that. And the music on this is stellar - both the music and how it was used. A 10/10 series!"
Netflix had in fact already given the green light back in November 2022 for the TV adaptation of the book, Forever, which features a star-studded cast including Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, Xosha Roquemore, Marvin Lawrence Winans III, Barry Shabaka Henley, Ali Gallo, Niles Fitch, Paigion Walker and E'myri Crutchfield.
The teasers were out by January, leaving audiences on tenterhooks up until its recent release. Clearly, they find their patience richly rewarded based on their glowing reactions.
On Netflix's own site, the show is described as follows: "Reunited as teens, two childhood friends fall deeply in love, experiencing the joy and heartache of a first romance that will change their lives forever."
Mara Brock Akil, the powerhouse behind the show's production and direction, opened up to Netflix about her inspiration, saying: "I've always credited Judy Blume as part of the seasoning of my voice as a writer. She was one of the first writers I read that dared to be honest about the human condition in young people and you can see traces of her writing style within my own. I'm honoured to reimagine one of my favourite books, Forever."
Remarkably, it's been half a century since Blume's novel hit the shelves, yet Brock Akil's fresh take on it seeks to prove how certain themes defy the passage of time.
"I'm thrilled that Mara has chosen to tell this story through her own lens," Blume expressed. "It is gratifying to know that, 50 years after its release, the love story at the core of Forever is still resonating with audiences."
The idea to adapt Forever for television sparked in Brock Akil's mind back in 2020 when she noticed other works by Blume were getting screen adaptations. Initially, however, Blume herself wasn't entirely convinced that the narrative would connect with today's youth.
"I found out that Judy wasn't sure that it could translate in this modern era, given how exposed young people are to sexuality and the topic of love. I got to talk to Judy, told her my perspective, and we resonated," Brock Akil recounted.

Matthew Goode reveals 'really dark' pitch that torpedoed his James Bond audition
Hollywood star Matthew Goode has opened up about his disastrous pitch for James Bond, which went so badlythathe never even got to audition for the role. Matthew, 47, was one of a handful of actors reportedly in the running for 2006's Casino Royale, along with Henry Cavill, Rupert Friend and Sam Worthington. However, Matthew didn't get much further than his meeting with franchise producer Barbara Broccoli – putting himself out of the running by pitching Bond as an alcoholic drug addict who 'hates himself' and 'hates women.' The role ultimately went to Daniel Craig, who starred as Bond for five films before bowing out with 2021's No Time to Die. With the franchise now run by Amazon MGM Studios after being purchased for $8.45billion (£6.7billion) in 2022, the hunt is on for their new Bond. Reflecting on his own vision of 007, Matthew has spoken of where it all went wrong. In an interview with Variety, Matthew said: 'I didn't audition. I went in and met Barbara [Broccoli]. 'It was quite a funny one because — and she's gorgeous and just a lovely, lovely person — she was like, 'So what's your idea for Bond?' 'And I was like, 'My idea for Bond. We've gotta take it back to the books, you know? Really, we absolutely have to make this guy an alcoholic, a drug addict. He hates himself. He hates women. He hates a lot of people. He's in deep pain. He's brilliant at killing people.'' And that, according to Matthew, is where his journey ended. 'I think by the end of the interview, she was like, 'Mhmm. Next.' 'I wanted to make it really dark, but what I should have said was, 'But also incredibly charming.'' After failing to score a licence to kill, Matthew went on to star in Zack Snyder's superhero adaptation Watchmen, in which he played the scheming Ozymandias. Since then, he has appeared as Henry Talbot in the period drama Downton Abbey, and as Toby Armstrong-Jones in The Crown. His film work includes the comedy drama Cemetery Junction and comedy-spy prequel The King's Man, both of which featured Bond star Ralph Fiennes, who appeared as M opposite Daniel Craig. Matthew can currently be found starring in the crime drama Dept. Q for Netflix, where he plays disgraced detective Carl Morck. As for Bond, the hunt is now on for Daniel Craig's replacement following the appointment of Denis Villeneuve to direct the next entry in the franchise. The Dune director has promised that the franchise is in good hands, saying: 'Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. 'I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory.' He described the opportunity 'a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour.' The studio has reportedly narrowed their search for the next Bond down to three names, according to Variety. More Trending It's also said that Amazon MGM are seeking a British actor under the age of 30. As such, Saltburn star Jacob Elordi, the MCU's Tom Holland and Babygirl star Harris Dickinson are all said to be under consideration. Jacob may not be a Brit, but could follow in former Bond George Lazenby's footsteps as an Australian 007. Got a story? Lincoln Lawyer fans should watch this upcoming drama set in the same universe ahead of series 4 debut
Lincoln Lawyer is expected to return for season four later this year or potentially early 2026 on Netflix. WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Lincoln Lawyer. Lincoln Lawyer fans are eagerly waiting for the Netflix hit's comeback but in the meantime, there is another show from the works of author Michael Connelly on the way. Season three of Mickey Haller's (played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) dropped on Netflix in October 2024, ending with a cliffhanger, which could mean the charming lawyer is going to be put behind bars. Thankfully, that's not quite the end of the story just yet with The Lincoln Lawyer renewed for season four a few months later, although an official release date hasn't been announced. The Netflix legal drama is based on the award-winning book series by author Michael Connelly with series four expected to be based on his sixth novel, The Law of Innocence. But while fans wait for its return, another book set in Connelly's universe, as well as Prime Video's Bosch, is gearing up to come out. Based on the author's Renee Ballard book series, Ballard is the next crime drama to be released on Prime Video. Inspired by real-life LAPD Detective Mitzi Roberts, who was also a consultant on Bosch, Ballard is relentless and smart with a strong moral compass that guides everything that she does. In the books, she works on the LAPD midnight shift and focuses on her complicated relationship with being on the force as well as her own issues. Ballard will be portrayed by Designated Survivor actress Maggie Q who got her initial introduction during the series finale of Bosch: Legacy. She teamed up with Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) to work on the Flower Girls missing women case which has been deemed as the toughest of his career. Ballard will be released on Tuesday, July 9, on Prime Video and will consist of 10 episodes in total. Q will be joined by Fargo star John Carroll Lynch as Ballard's seasons partner Tomas Laffront, as well as actress Courtney Taylor as her ex-protégé Samira Park. It has already been confirmed that Welliver will reprise his role as Harry Bosch in the drama as it picks up after the Bosch: Legacy finale. As of yet, there has been no confirmation that Lincoln Lawyer star Garcia-Rulfo or any other members of the Netflix cast are going to feature.
