Shakira had album pulled to add Hips Don't Lie
The 48-year-old singer had completed work on her 2005 record 'Oral Fixation, Vol. 2' but she then got into the studio with Wylcef Jean and knew instantly they had a hit on their hands, so she called her record company boss and begged him to pull the LP so the extra track could be added.
Speaking on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she said: "I remember my album was already distributed, and then this idea came up, and Wyclef and I met and we started working on this track.
'I started working with Wyclef, and I knew I had a hit, so I called Donny Lenner, who was in charge at the time of [Epic Records], and I said, 'Donny, you have to pick up the albums from the stores,' and he's like, 'No way, these albums are already out there.
"I'm like, 'You've got to believe me. You've got to trust me. You do that, we have a hit.' And he said, 'OK, so I'll listen to you. I'll listen to you on this one,' and he did it and we kind of had to repackage the albums, and it changed my story."
The collaboration with Wyclef came right after Shakira had spookily had a dream about him.
She said: "You know, the funniest thing is that I had a dream, the most random dream about Wyclef. It wasn't a sexual dream! It was just a dream. And then I woke up and my manager called me and said, 'Wyclef wants to work with you.' "
Meanwhile, Shakira is proud to have sold out 11 shows in Mexico City and have the number one tour in the world for the second month in a row and she thinks its a special experience for fans.
She said: 'It's incredible. I've been working on this tour for a year, preparing every single detail, from the visuals to the music. I've put together my biggest set list. I'm singing some of my classic songs, from 'Hips Don't Lie' to 'Whenever, Whatever' to the most recent ones.
'And it's a pretty huge production. It's a huge effort to tour with this production around Latin America. It's probably the biggest production that's ever traveled Latin America. It weighs like 93 tons. The screen is huge and it's 145 people traveling…
"So when you show up and you see so many people dancing and singing and crying and getting emotional. It's a party, but people really, really connect with this music. It's been like the soundtrack of their lives, for many of my fans.'

Kesha cancels Texas gig after flooding disaster
Kesha has cancelled a concert in Dallas, Texas after the state was devastated by flash floods. The 38-year-old pop star had been due to perform at the city's Dos Equis Pavilion venue on Tuesday (08.07.25), but she called off the gig with just hours to go amid safety fears after heavy rain on Friday (04.07.25) caused the banks of the Guadalupe River to burst leaving more than 110 people dead with more than 170 still missing. In a statement posted on X and Instagram, Kesha wrote: "I wanted to say thank you for coming out to support an independent artist. However, Kesha insisted she plans to reschedule the show for Wednesday night (09.07.25) and hopes to perform as long as it's safe to do so. She added: "I'm going to stay here in your beautiful city and come back here tomorrow and would love to play for all of you tomorrow night. "All of your tickets will be honored and I'm so sorry. Get home safe, let's party tomorrow." Kesha is due to perform another gig in Texas in The Woodlands on Thursday (10.07.25) before she takes her tour to Illinois. Fellow pop star Shakira performed in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday night (05.07.25) as part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour and she promised to give a portion of the profits to a charity helping those impacted by the disaster. In a post on X, Shakira wrote: "Dear San Antonio, Our hearts and prayers are with those affected by the flood in Central Texas. "We are donating a portion of tonight's show proceeds to Catholic Charities of San Antonio, who are providing disaster relief to the families impacted. "If you would like to join me in donating, please click on the link below. Your help is important and appreciated." Shakira added a link to fundraising drive operated by the Catholic Charities organisation, which aims to "deliver emergency supplies, including bottled water, blankets, clothing, and hygiene kits to areas impacted by catastrophic flooding".

Michael Madsen, Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill star, dies at 67
Los Angeles: Michael Madsen, the actor best known for his coolly menacing, steely-eyed, often sadistic characters in the films of Quentin Tarantino, including Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill: Vol. 2, has died. Madsen was found unresponsive at his home in Malibu, California on Thursday morning (Friday AEST) and pronounced dead, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Watch Commander Christopher Jauregui said. He is believed to have died of natural causes, and authorities do not suspect any foul play was involved. Madsen's manager Ron Smith said cardiac arrest was the apparent cause. He was 67. Madsen's career spanned more than 300 credits, stretching back to the early 1980s, with many of them in low-budget films and independent films. He often played low-level thugs, gangsters and shady cops in small roles. Tarantino would use that identity but make him a main character. His torture of a captured police officer in Tarantino's 1992 directorial debut Reservoir Dogs, in which Madsen's black-suited bank robber Vic 'Mr Blonde' Vega severs the man's ear while dancing to Stealers Wheel's Stuck in the Middle with You, was an early career-defining moment for both director and actor. He would become a Tarantino regular. He had a small role as the cowboy-hatted desert dweller Budd, a member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, in 2003's Kill Bill: Vol. 1, then a starring role the following year in the sequel, in which he battles Uma Thurman's protagonist The Bride and buries her alive. Madsen also appeared in Tarantino's The Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. He was an alternate choice to play the hit man role that revived John Travolta's career in 1994's Pulp Fiction. The character, Vincent Vega, is the brother of Madsen's Reservoir Dogs robber in Tarantino's cinematic universe. Madsen was born in Chicago to a family of three children. His sister is Oscar-nominated Sideways actor Virginia Madsen.
