The Denver Broncos are one of the hottest teams this NFL offseason, adding big-time pieces to an already vaunted defense while also seemingly improving on offense. With a mix of youth and veteran leadership, the Broncos are positioning themselves well for a big season.

According to Jeffrey Chadiha of NFL.com, the Broncos have improved so much that Chadiha believes they are ready to topple the Kansas City Chiefs for an AFC West division win this season.
"The Broncos have an elite defense, and it looks like they landed a franchise quarterback in Bo Nix in last year's draft," Chadiha said. "We know [Sean] Payton can coach up the offense, especially as the Broncos add more playmakers."
The Chiefs have won the division every season since 2016, but the Broncos proved themselves as a team capable of giving Kansas City fits. In November of 2024, the Chiefs squeaked out a 16-14 win over Denver at Arrowhead Stadium. Then, in Week 18, the Broncos beat a Chiefs squad that was resting its starters.

Chadiha also noted that the AFC West is stronger across the board, with all four teams having head coaches who have reached or won a Super Bowl. He thinks that levels the playing field. Especially for Denver, who he believes is the best team outside of Kansas City in the division.

"With the other teams also creating more resistance to the Chiefs... Denver will earn its first [AFC West] crown since Peyton Manning was their quarterback," Chadiha said.

Broncos linebacker will miss 'extended period' after suffering foot injury

Denver Broncos inside linebacker Drew Sanders has been hit by the injury bug once again. Sanders, who was carted off the practice field on Saturday, is set to miss an "extended period" of time after suffering a tendon injury in his foot, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported Sunday. He is not expected to return before the Broncos kick off the regular season against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 7. In a follow-up report, the Denver Post's Parker Gabriel noted that the Broncos and Sanders will decide on potential surgery in the coming days. Whether or not Sanders undergoes surgery will play a role in his exact recovery time. Denver coach Sean Payton said he was waiting for the results of an MRI when asked about Sanders following Saturday's practice. Rapoport later broke the news of the tendon injury following the MRI results on Sunday. Sanders (6-5, 233 pounds) was picked by the Broncos in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft after a breakout season at Arkansas. He dressed for all 17 games as a rookie, including four fill-in starts, and recorded 24 tackles. Sanders then injured his Achilles tendon during the 2024 offseason, an injury that sidelined him for most of last season. Sanders returned late last fall and dressed for four games, totaling eight tackles and one sack on 18 snaps. He has shown flashes of potential when healthy, but his latest injury is yet another setback after a discouraging 2024 campaign. This story will be updated.

After coming out of nowhere to make the playoffs last season, Sean Payton and company are looking to take another step towards Super Bowl contention. They have the talent to make some noise in the AFC, but health will be a huge factor. Unfortunately, the team suffered a brutal injury update on Sunday. Head coach Sean Payton of the Denver Broncos walks onto the field before the NFL game against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium on August 11, 2023 in Glendale, Arizona. Read more: Jets Linked to Surprise QB Trade to Challenge Justin Fields According to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Sanders has suffered a tendon injury in his foot that will keep him out for a prolonged period of time. "Broncos LB Drew Sanders, an up-and-coming defender, suffered a tendon injury in his foot in practice that will keep him out an extended period of time, sources say post-MRI," Rapoport wrote on X. "Sanders is not expected back before the season begins and further testing will determine what's next." Not only will he miss time during training camp and the preseason, he isn't expected to begin the season on the field. That is a tough break for the Broncos. During the 2024 NFL season with Denver, Sanders only played in four games. He totaled eight tackles and a sack. Back in his rookie season with the Broncos, he racked up 24 tackles and a fumble recovery. Sanders is just 23 years old. He was the No. 67 overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by Denver. While his future is still bright, his absence is disappointing for the team. Dre Greenlaw, one of the team's big free agency additions, suffered a torn quadriceps injury that will likely sideline him for a portion of the 2025 season. Denver will need other players to step up to help fill some gaps due to injury. Hopefully, the team will be able to get everyone back to full health early on in the year. It will be interesting to see if the Broncos make any late-offseason moves to bring in more talent at the linebacker position. Broncos LB Drew Sanders out for extended time with foot injury

One of the Broncos' linebackers will be sidelined for a while. Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Drew Sanders suffered a foot tendon injury and an MRI revealed he will be out for an extended period of time. Sanders will not be able to return for the start of the regular season. He still needs further tests to determine next steps. Sanders, 24, suffered an Achilles tear during last year's offseason program but was able to return late in the year for four games and Denver's postseason loss. A third-round pick in 2023, Sanders appeared in all 17 games with four starts as a rookie, recording 24 total tackles and a fumble recovery.
