Abhishek Banerjee accuses ECI of working as an extended arm of BJP
Referring to the Election Commission's recently concluded special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, Banerjee said that it was such a shame that the commission was working as an extended arm of the BJP to help it gain an advantage in every election.
'It is helping the ruling party in the country to loot votes. Voting rights are being taken away from a large number of people. Even fake voter identity cards have been issued.. In the name of conducting SIR, people are being harassed. We have seen it happening in 2021 West Bengal Assembly polls when central force personnel had shot four people dead in Cooch Behar district's Sitalkuchi," Banerjee told media persons outside the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.
Responding to queries on the allegations of Bangladeshi Muslims and Rohingyas residing in Bengal illegally, Banerjee said it was the responsibility of the Union Home Ministry and BSF to stop infiltration.
"Even if I agree that these people have entered the country illegally, then who is responsible for stopping their entry? Who mans the international borders? If the security of the country is compromised, then the Union Home Minister, BSF's director general, and IB director should resign,' he added.
At the same time, Banerjee made a social media post on Monday, criticising calls to separate politics from sports and rejecting the idea of sporting ties with Pakistan.
"INDIA MUST NOT ENGAGE WITH PAKISTAN in any sphere. The only engagement we should have with Pakistan is on the BATTLEFIELD, and the only prize worth WINNING is Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK)," Banerjee wrote.
He accused Pakistan of exporting terror for decades and causing irreparable loss to Indian lives and families. "When a nation wages a proxy war, there is no 'neutral ground.' THERE IS NO CRICKET PITCH WISE ENOUGH TO WASH OFF THE BLOOD OF OUR MARTYRS," he said.
He further stressed that while cricketers are respected, the nation owes its freedom and security to the armed forces. "Our TRICOLOUR flies high not because of a bat and ball, but because of the unmatched courage and valour of our armed forces. We honour our cricketers, but as a nation, we revere our soldiers."

"A response will be given... Many names are missing from the voter list, and we have several irregularities by the Election Commission with us. We will send this to the Election Commission and also present it in court," Tejashwi told reporters before leaving for Ranchi to attend the last rites of veteran leader Shibu Soren. Yadav further elaborated, "We have demanded booth-wise data because many names have been deliberately excluded. For example, Vyas ji's name is missing. Meanwhile, Yadav confirmed that the RJD's planned "Vote Adhikar Yatra" has been postponed following the demise of Shibu Soren. "There has been a schedule change, but the new date for the Yatra will be announced soon," he said. Speaking about Shibu Soren's death, Yadav expressed deep sorrow. 'We received the sad news yesterday. We are now heading to Ranchi to pay our last respects. Shibu Soren ji fought for the poor, the underprivileged, and especially for tribal rights. He was also a long-time ally of my father and the RJD-JMM alliance. His passing is a political loss for the nation, and we offer our full condolences to his family.' Yadav is expected to join other national leaders at Nemra village in Jharkhand on Tuesday, where Soren's last rites will be performed.

The Foreign Secretary has answered all of them," Tharoor told added that the Committee will now prepare its report, which will be placed before Parliament. "After this, it is our job to write a report, adopt it and present it to the Parliament. Before doing that, I cannot tell what we will decide, what advice we will give..." he said. The Parliamentary Standing Committee met on August 4 to review the future of India-Bangladesh relations. The meeting saw officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) presenting evidence on the future of India-Bangladesh relations. The agenda also included a review of the draft report on action taken by the government on recommendations made in an earlier report concerning the MEA's demands for grants for 2024-25. According to Tharoor, the August 4 meeting marked the final round of deliberations on the issue. He reiterated that the Foreign Secretary had briefed the panel and addressed all queries raised by the members. The committee will now prepare, adopt, and present a report to Parliament. The panel had earlier met on June 27, during which it heard the views of experts on the topic 'Future of India-Bangladesh Relationship'. Following the meeting, Tharoor stated that the Committee benefited from the insights of "four first-class experts." He also noted that the number of Bangladeshis entering India had declined in recent times."You will see our report in the next few weeks... We didn't discuss (the issue of Bangladeshis living in India). But we were told about a figure that the number of Bangladeshis coming to our country has lessened now," he said. India-Bangladesh ties have seen some strain in the recent past. Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also commented on the 25 per cent tariffs imposed on India by US President Donald Trump, stating that the matter is expected to be discussed on August 11. "I think the tariffs will be discussed on 11th August," he said. Trump, in a recent post on his Truth Social platform, stated that a 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods would be implemented from August 1.
