Saturday rally an expression of frustration, not politically engineered, says grassroots MCA leader

IPOH: The "Turun Anwar" rally is a genuine expression of frustration by the people, and not a politically engineered conspiracy by the Opposition, says an MCA grassroots leader.
Kanthan Baru MCA deputy chairman Jimmy Loh said the rally to be held Saturday (July 26) reflected the people's growing anger over the rising cost of living and unfulfilled election promises
'MCA does not support extremist political actions, especially those linked to Perikatan Nasional, but the people's suffering cannot be brushed aside.
'The people have had enough, and this protest is their voice, and not a political stunt.
'This is not an attempted power grab, but a final wake-up call to a government too caught up in self-praise and statistical achievements,' he said in a statement Friday (July 25).
Loh said if the government continued to be arrogant and deaf, then it should be prepared to face a larger wave of public anger.
He also urged leaders to reconnect with their constituents and not just appear during election season.
'You were elected to serve, and if you cannot hear the cries of those left behind by the economy, you do not deserve to lead.
'People want food, jobs, and not gratitude speeches,' he said in reference to the Prime Minister's recent remarks thanking Malaysians for their support.
Loh also questioned Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visibility on the ground in his own Tambun parliamentary constituency.
He argued that the so-called macroeconomic recovery has failed to reflect the harsh realities of everyday Malaysians.
Loh also said the promises made ahead of the 15th General Election, including on cost of living, judicial reform, integrity, and transparency had not been fulfilled.

Saifuddin: Entry permits for foreign spouses evaluated fairly

KUALA LUMPUR: Entry permit approvals for foreign spouses of Malaysians are based on fair and balanced considerations, regardless of gender, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. "Among the prerequisites for the MyPR application is that the applicant must first obtain an entry permit issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department," he said in a written parliamentary reply last night. He was responding to Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH–Bukit Bendera), who questioned the government's processes for Permanent Resident (MyPR) applications, which she said placed an unfair burden on Malaysian women with foreign spouses. Saifuddin also said the issuance of entry permits to foreigners is in accordance with the provisions under Section 10(1) and (2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which grants the Director-General of Immigration the authority to issue entry permits based on the conditions and procedures set. Between 2013 to 2023, the approval rates for the wives of citizens stood at 22.3 per cent and the approval rates for husbands stood at 22.7 per cent. "Based on the percentage of approved entry permits, there is no significant difference between applications made by husbands and wives within the citizen category. "Therefore, each entry permit application in the husband and wife to citizen category is assessed fairly and equitably," he said. He added that several factors are taken into consideration when granting approvals. "For example, in the case of citizens' wives, issues related to welfare and neglect are considered," he said.

PM Anwar's diplomacy showcases Islamic peace values in ASEAN

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia, as the current ASEAN Chair, has played a leading role in promoting peaceful solutions and diplomatic negotiations among member states, said the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM). IKIM director-general Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil, in praising Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's success in mediating a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia on Monday, said the achievement symbolises Malaysia's ongoing commitment to regional unity and stability. Mohamed Azam, in a statement, said Anwar's wisdom in bringing the two conflicting parties together reflects Islamic leadership that upholds justice, peace and human dignity, while also demonstrating the effectiveness of diplomacy grounded in patience, wisdom and firmness in addressing conflict. 'Malaysia's success in reconciling the two parties shows the world that true strength lies not in military might, but in moral principles, ethics and transparency in managing conflict. This is a core teaching in Islam. 'IKIM calls on all Malaysians to express gratitude for this achievement and to value peace as the foundation for development and well-being. IKIM remains committed to promoting Islamic values that advocate peace, understanding, and respect among all people,' he said. As an institution under the Prime Minister's Department dedicated to promoting a true understanding of Islam, IKIM believes this achievement can serve as an example to the international community on how diplomacy based on ethics and values can help resolve longstanding disputes. Thailand and Cambodia have a history of diplomatic friction over an 817-kilometre undemarcated stretch of their shared border. Tensions escalated on May 28 following a skirmish near the disputed Preah Vihear area, which resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier. - Bernama
