WWE champion Gunther admits Goldberg is still 'very intimidating personality' as he gears up for title match
At least that's what Hall of Famer Goldberg declared as he re-entered the professional wrestling world for one final match. He has had his sights set on "The Ring General" since their interaction at Bad Blood last year. Goldberg will look to avenge some of the comments Gunther made about him and his family at "Saturday Night's Main Event" on July 12.
Gunther told Fox News Digital he was looking forward to the opportunity, even as Goldberg has threatened to "beat the f---" out of him.
"That is the intensity you expect from Bill Goldberg, that is what he is known for," Gunther said. "He is not somebody that beats around the bush or tells a lengthy story about all the intricate details of why he acts the way he acts. He is straight to the point and that is what made him stand out throughout his whole career.
"He is 58 years old now, but I can tell everyone when he is in the ring with me, like in front of me, this man is a very intimidating personality, very tall person, still in fantastic shape, so yeah, I am ready for it, and I am ready to face it. It is going to be very interesting how it plays out in the ring."
Gunther teased Goldberg in recent weeks about defeating him in three minutes – something Goldberg was famous for during the dominant days of his reign in World Championship Wrestling.
However, whether it's three minutes, 30 minutes or three seconds, Gunther just wants to walk out of Atlanta as the victor.
"We shall see. At the end of the day, especially when it is for the title, a win is a win. But I am not too concerned about that," Gunther told Fox News Digital. But it's always been me playing with all the synonymous things or terms out there with Bill Goldberg and that is what made him stand out.
"An absolute killer his whole career. He was not known for long classic matches. He is known for being a killer, finished off everyone in a very short time, and he was very successful with it. So let's see it is going to be interesting what he wants to do, what his strategy is for everything, is he going to try to play a bit slower or try to stick to what he always did, so it is going to be interesting to see."
With Seth Rollins as the holder of the Money in the Bank contract, which guarantees him a title shot at any place or any time, Gunther's second World Heavyweight Championship reign may not be for long.
However, Gunther made clear his mind is on Goldberg going into the premium live event later this month.

Durant always looks for the best shot, and he isn't like other stars in that he'd rather go iso in the mid-range over passing it off to one of his teammates. Unlike LeBron, Kevin is a shoot-first player, and he believes he's the best-equipped to get his team a bucket on demand. Compare that to LeBron James, who likes to look for the open man and the cleanest shot on every possession, and it's clear how their priorities differ on the court. In the case of Dorian Finney-Smith, Durant said he's better off watching the play than taking the final shot himself. What Durant didn't know at the time was that he'd end up being teammates with Finney-Smith. Days after Kevin's trade to Houston, Finney-Smith agreed to a deal with the Rockets for four years and $53 million. He and Durant will join Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., and Fred VanVleet on a stacked roster. Advertisement Funnily enough, it's going to be Durant working with Dorian Finney-Smith now, and he'll be making more than a few passes to him on the three-point line, where he made 39.8% of his threes last season. With the Rockets, they intend to compete for a championship and help build their momentum after capturing the second-best seed in the West in 2025. Next season will be the hardest test yet for Durant, who will be tasked with leading the Rockets to a title at 36 years old. If he plays his game and stays healthy in the process, the sky is the limit for this Rockets team. Here's what he had to say about it: We were writing the script, and we were working on where we wanted to reveal the guys, and it always seemed like Peter's going to be sad because Aunt May has just died, and that the portals are going to open, and the two Spider-Men are going to step out. It's probably a rooftop somewhere. It's all sort of hazy. You're still trying to figure it out. Then I was on reddit, and I was looking at people who had already made fan art of, 'This is probably what it's going to be like when the two Spider-Men get revealed.' It was on a rooftop. It was sad, two Doctor Strange portals were open and two Spider-Men are stepping out. I was like, 'Well, we can't do that.' The 36-year-old guard has signed a new contract, the team announced Tuesday night. Before the moratorium ends (July 6 at 12:01 p.m. ET), teams are allowed to formalize one-year, minimum-salary deals. Advertisement Gordon declined his player option but always appeared likely to remain in Philadelphia. As PHLY's Derek Bodner detailed, hitting free agency and then re-signing will slightly raise Gordon's 2025-26 salary while also decreasing his cap hit. In a career-low 19.7 minutes per game last year, Gordon averaged 6.8 points, 1.7 assists and 1.2 rebounds. He shot 40.9 percent from three-point range on 3.5 attempts per contest. Though Gordon is clearly past his prime, the Sixers still see his outside shooting as useful. 'Eric is a prolific shot maker whose ability to space the floor will serve our rotation well,' Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey said in a team press release. 'He's been a great fit on and off the court with this organization and we're fortunate to have him back.' Advertisement The Sixers should have several much younger guards in the mix next season, including Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and Gordon's Bahamian teammate VJ Edgecombe. Earlier Tuesday, the Sixers signed Edgecombe and Johni Broome to their rookie contracts and inked Hunter Sallis to his two-way deal. All three practiced at the Sixers' summer league minicamp, which is set to run through Wednesday ahead of the team's trip to the Salt Lake City summer league.
