Emmerdale signs up rival soap star for huge role as mysterious newcomer

EMMERDALE has signed up an iconic EastEnders villain for a major new role.
The ITV soap has called on the services of actor Chris Coghill who is best known for playing the evil Tony King in rival soap EastEnders.

He has begun filming for his stint on the show this week.
Bosses have revealed he's playing a character called Kev who is on the hunt for someone already in the village.
Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw, said: 'We are delighted that someone of Chris' calibre has joined our cast.
'I think the viewers will be intrigued to see how the character of Kev will cause shockwaves this autumn.
'Kev has a strong connection to one of our characters and it's safe to say his arrival is going to be a massive surprise that will have major repercussions for some of our villagers.'
Chris added: 'I am really happy to be joining the cast of Emmerdale.
'Kev is definitely going to shake things up a bit and I'm looking forward to getting cracking!'
Chris has starred in a string of high profile shows including The Bay, Slow Horses and Shameless.
The actor will be appearing onscreen late September.

A source teased drama to come with Kev adding: 'Kev is a complicated character who's going to set the cat amongst the pigeons in the village.
'It's going to lead to some huge storylines throughout autumn when what he wants is revealed.'

I'll only watch Netflix's Pride and Prejudice remake on one condition
I hate to say it but not even Olivia Colman can tempt me to feel excited about another rehash of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. We already have two beloved adaptations, so I can't think of anything more dull than another basic remake — no matter how many Oscar winners Netflix casts. However, if this six-part series must go ahead, there is one adaptation that I am begging Dolly Alderton, the writer, to take inspiration from: Bridget Jones. Go modern and reinvent the story. The iconic 00s film was so undeniably brilliant that most of us forget it is loosely based on Pride and Prejudice, even if Mr Darcy's name remained unchanged. Clueless is another beloved Austen modernisation, meanwhile, Shakespeare got an overhaul in 10 Things I Hate About You, She's The Man, and Anyone But You. Some of the most high-regarded rom-coms are these types of contemporary reimaginings, and romance fans have been screaming for more of these twists on classics. However, studios stubbornly stick to churning out known IPs in an attempt to manufacture an assured hit. Classic novels appear to be the flavour of Hollywood right now, with Greta Gerwig's upcoming Wuthering Heights already taking a beating from fans. The last time Netflix decided to take on Jane Austen, we ended up with 2022's Persuasion, which sits at an embarrassingly low 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. Attempting to modernise without going all in was the fatal flaw for this film. It missed the full-blown modern pull while ditching the period charm of 2020's Emma or the older Pride and Prejudice adaptations. And these Pride and Prejudices did it so well. Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen deftly navigated the dance of Elizabeth and Darcy in 2005, scoring Academy Award nominations in multiple categories. Then there's the Colin Firth 1995 TV version, which again landed BAFTA nominations and a place in all romance-lovers' hearts. With such an impressive legacy, there's no way this new series can be better than those classics, so it must be decidedly different. Transforming Pride and Prejudice into something new is the only way to save this new series from a painful reboot fate. Alas, the first pictures of the cast all dressed in traditional period garb hasn't given me hope. I was initially optimistic after the cast announcement, when Netflix revealed Emma Corrin will star as Elizabeth Bennett. Even if they don't go modern, I hope they shake things up somehow. Casting a non-binary actor could open doors to play with the expectations and give us something truly exciting. More Trending In more conventional choices, Mr Darcy will be played by Slow Horses' Jack Lowden, while powerhouse Olivia Colman is Mrs Bennett. I'm not holding my breath for a Bridget Jones-level departure from the novel, but I have faith in Dolly to bring something ( anything ) creative to the table. Love Island is nearing the conclusion and very soon one couple will be crowned the winner of series 12. The date for the final has been set and a pair of frontrunners has emerged. Starting back in June, the show promised more 'drama' than ever, and it has lived up to the hype. Plenty of faces have come through the villa in the weeks since the season started earlier in the summer. From dumpings to re-couplings, public votes, and even a voluntary departure, Love Island has had it all in 2025. So many stars have come and gone over the weeks that you might have forgotten every departure so far. Lets take a look back at all of the Love Islanders who have left the villa in series 12 so far. TV couple Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty announce separation
They wed in September 2012 at a ceremony in Rome and have two children together. They said in a joint statement to the PA news agency: 'We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved. Patrick Kielty and Cat Deeley, pictured in 2017, said they remain 'united as loving parents' (Ian West/PA) 'We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. 'There will be no further comment.' Deeley, 48, has hosted ITV's This Morning alongside Ben Shephard since early last year, and previously lived in Los Angeles for more than 10 years. She hosted the US series So You Think You Can Dance, also appearing on SM:TV Live with TV duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly from 1998 to 2002. She also previously co-hosted BBC singing contest Fame Academy, alongside Kielty, and took over ITV's Stars In Their Eyes from Matthew Kelly. Northern Irish presenter Kielty, 54, is the host of RTE talk show The Late Late Show, having taken over from Ryan Tubridy in 2023. He made his feature film debut the year prior when he starred as a budding comedian going through a marriage break-up in Ballywalter, a movie that takes its title from the Northern Irish town in County Down. The comedian and presenter began his stand-up career as host of Northern Ireland's first comedy club, The Empire Laughs Back, in pre-ceasefire Belfast and graduated to presenting programmes such as Channel 4's Last Chance Lottery and BBC One chat show Patrick Kielty Almost Live. He also presented the documentary My Dad, The Peace Deal And Me, about his father's death at the hands of paramilitary gunmen. Kielty and Deeley's first child, a son called Milo, was born in 2016 and their second son, James, was born in 2018.
