Tunisia to Host Prestigious ISESCO Executive Council Meeting

The Islamic World Organization for Education, Science, and Culture (ISESCO) will hold its 45th Executive Council meeting under the patronage of Tunisian President Kais Saied on February 25 and 26 in Tunisia. This session will see the participation of delegations from the organization's member countries.
The announcement followed a meeting between President Saied and ISESCO's Director-General, Dr. Salem bin Mohammed Al-Malik, at the Carthage Palace in Tunis, as part of an official visit by the delegation to Tunisia. ISESCO's statement highlighted that during this meeting, the Director-General thanked President Saied for his support, emphasizing that this reflects the Tunisian leadership's belief in the organization's role, especially after its developments over the past five years, and its pioneering efforts in education, science, and culture.
Dr. Al-Malik noted that hosting the Executive Council meeting in Tunisia will significantly enhance the cooperation between ISESCO and Tunisia. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of the Tunisian authorities to successfully manage the council's proceedings.
It is worth noting that the ISESCO Executive Council meetings are held annually, with participation from delegations of all 53 member countries. The heads of the national committees usually lead these delegations.
The Executive Council is responsible for reviewing and evaluating the annual performance reports of ISESCO and approving future action plans proposed by the general administration.

Tunisia leader shows Trump adviser images of starving Gaza children - War on Gaza

Tunisian President Kais Saied presented US counterpart Donald Trump's senior Africa adviser with photographs of starving children in Gaza, official video of their meeting posted late Tuesday showed. Saied told US envoy Massad Boulos, who is also the father-in-law of Trump's daughter Tiffany, that "it is time for all of humanity to wake up and put an end to these crimes against the Palestinian people". "I believe you know these images well," Saied was seen telling the envoy as he showed a photograph of what he described as "a child crying, eating sand in occupied Palestine". Saied showed Boulos several more images, saying that Palestinians in Gaza were subjected to crimes against humanity. Israel is facing mounting international pressure over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory, where more than two million people have endured 21 months of devastating war. "It is absolutely unacceptable," Saied was heard saying as Boulos stood silently, occasionally nodding. "It is a crime against all of humanity." More than 100 aid organisations warned on Wednesday that "mass starvation" was spreading across the Gaza Strip and that their own colleagues were suffering acutely from the shortages. The head of Gaza's largest hospital said on Tuesday that 21 children had died from malnutrition and starvation in the Palestinian territory in the previous three days. Following his visit to Tunisia, Boulos flew on to the Libyan capital Tripoli on Wednesday, Tunisian media reported. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

Egypt keen on cementing ties with continent: FM Abdelatty to African counterparts - Foreign Affairs

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held separate bilateral meetings with several of his African counterparts and African Union senior officials to cement relations, activate bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and enhance trade, investment, and economic ties. This occurred on the sidelines of the 47th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union. During the meetings, FM Abdelatty and his African counterparts discussed intensifying cooperation and leveraging the expertise and capabilities of leading Egyptian companies, especially in energy, construction, health, and infrastructure sectors. They also stressed the importance of coordinating positions in African and international forums and intensifying joint efforts to promote regional integration and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Africa, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallaf said on Monday. FM Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt's ongoing efforts to support development in Africa, particularly through the activities of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. EAPD aims to support Africa's development aspirations through the provision of capacity-building assistance, the transfer of knowledge, skills, and expertise, and the promotion of creative industries, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said at the 23rd African Union Summit in June 2014. It also supports and promotes the private sector's trade and investment role in the continent's overall economic development. Over the years, the agency has contributed to building the capacities of thousands of African professionals and implementing development projects in health, education, agriculture, water, energy, and other fields. Egypt's top diplomat affirmed Egypt's aspiration to maximize African countries' benefit from the agency's programmes and initiatives as part of its commitment to supporting fellow African nations. He also underscored Egypt's keenness to deepen South-South cooperation and support continental integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA). Abdelatty further stressed the importance of enhancing joint African action amid the growing challenges facing the continent. "Egypt will continue to play a pivotal role in supporting development, security, and stability efforts in Africa," he affirmed. He also reiterated Egypt's steadfast commitment to supporting the continent's priorities, the African Union's Agenda 2063, regional integration, and sustainable development. Additionally, he emphasized Egypt's support for specialized African institutions, particularly the African Space Agency, affirming readiness to enhance its capabilities, given that Cairo hosts the agency's headquarters. He also commended the African support for Egypt's candidate for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Dr. Khaled El-Anany. "This support reflects the spirit of African solidarity," he said, stressing the importance of unifying the African voice in international forums to ensure Africa's legitimate aspirations are realized and its representation within multilateral organizations is strengthened. The 47th session of the African Union Executive Council officially opened in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, last Thursday. The two-day meeting focused on financial and administrative governance within the AU. Discussions centred on budget management, international partnerships, and preparations for key continental and global events, including elections for AU commissioners in education, science and technology, trade, and industry. This year's meeting, under the AU's 2025 theme: "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations," brought together a select group of African heads of state to coordinate between the AU and regional economic communities. Egypt and Italy mark 50 years of science partnership, discuss future cooperation

Egypt and Italy have marked 50 years of a scientific and technological partnership at a workshop in Cairo, where officials and researchers from both countries discussed future collaboration in strategic sectors including energy and water management. The event, organised by the Italian Embassy in Cairo and Egypt's Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF), reviewed the achievements of the long-standing cooperation agreement and outlined future plans. In a statement from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Minister Ayman Ashour said the cooperation between Egypt and Italy was a distinguished model of an effective bilateral partnership. He said it reflected Egypt's commitment to international cooperation and innovation to support its sustainable development plans and 'Egypt Vision 2030.' The event opened with remarks from Giuseppe Papalia, head of Economic, Scientific and Cultural Affairs for Italy in Egypt, and Walaa Sheta, the CEO of the STDF. Sheta said the Egyptian-Italian executive programme had been one of the most successful models of bilateral cooperation, supporting joint research projects in strategic areas such as renewable energy, water management, smart cities, and cultural heritage protection. He added that the STDF would continue to support this cooperation to include more priority specialisations. The workshop included video messages from international figures including Nasser Kamel, Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, and Angelo Riccaboni, chairman of the PRIMA Foundation. A session on the STDF's strategic pillars outlined the main areas of cooperation with Italy within the 2024–2026 executive programme. Egyptian researchers presented the results and applications of ongoing joint research projects in the fields of water management, agriculture, food technology, materials science and engineering, renewable and sustainable energy, and modern technologies applied to cultural and natural heritage. A second session focused on opportunities for cooperation in international education, technology transfer, and the integration of scientific research with industry. Participants included Italian universities such as Trieste, Marche Polytechnic, Pegaso, and Calabria, alongside industrial firms including Leonardo Space, Eni, and El-Sewedy University of Technology. The workshop concluded with a panel discussion on the future of cooperation in light of the bilateral agreement, Italy's 'Mattei Plan,' and the research policies of the European Union. The event also featured an exhibition titled 'Heritage and New Technologies,' which highlighted the role of archaeological missions in supporting Egyptian-Italian scientific cooperation.
