Congress demands urgent evacuation of Indians from Iran
Congress on Tuesday demanded urgent measures from the Indian government to ensure the safe return of Indians from Iran, which is involved in a conflict with Israel.
Pawan Khera, chairman of the media and publicity department of the All India Congress Committee, accused the government of not acting with alacrity on the issue of evacuating Indians from the war-torn nation.
"We have been raising this issue for the past three days. Many of our students from Kashmir are there. We have been asking the government to wake up and realise that issuing advisories is not enough,' Khera told IANS.
'The government must make arrangements for the safe return of Indians from there,' he said.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday that amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, Indian students in Tehran have been relocated from the city, and some Indian nationals have been assisted in leaving the country through the border with Armenia.
As the Israel-Iran conflict entered its fifth day, the hostilities between the two nations continued to escalate. Several missiles from Iran were fired at Israel, triggering air raid sirens in Haifa and dozens of other cities across northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights, confirmed the Israeli military.
"Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for reasons of safety, through arrangements made by the Embassy. Other residents who are self-sufficient in terms of transport have also been advised to move out of the city in view of the developing situation," the MEA said.
"Separately, some Indians have been facilitated to leave Iran through the border with Armenia," it added.
The Ministry also said that the Indian Embassy is continuously in touch with the community to provide all feasible assistance. It stated that further advisory will be issued for the security of Indian nationals.
Earlier in the day, India urged its nationals in Iran and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) to evacuate Tehran and shift to a safer location following escalating tensions in the region.

He wanted those responsible for the deaths to be severely punished. He suggested that the families of the deceased be financially supported. He expressed his deepest sympathies to the family members of the deceased, and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

EAM Jaishankar gives firsthand account to refute Trump's claims on ceasefire
New York: With his firsthand account of the talks between New Delhi and Washington, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar has dismissed the claims of US President Donald Trump that he used trade to force India and Pakistan to accept a ceasefire. He said on Monday that he was with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when US Vice President J.D. Vance spoke to him by phone, and there was no linking of trade and ceasefire as far as India was concerned. "I can tell you that I was in the room when Vice President Vance spoke to Prime Minister Modi on the night of May 9, saying that the Pakistanis would launch a very massive assault on India," he said. "We did not accept certain things," he said, "and the Prime Minister was impervious to what the Pakistanis were threatening to do." "On the contrary, he (PM Modi) indicated that there would be a response from us," he said, giving the chronology of interactions. "The Pakistanis did attack us massively that night, (and) we responded very quickly," he recalled. The next contact with Washington was between the EAM and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. "And the next morning, Mr. Rubio called me up and said the Pakistanis were ready to talk," he said. Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations, Major General Kashif Abdullah, directly called his Indian counterpart, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, that afternoon to ask for a ceasefire. "So, I can only tell you from my personal experience what happened," Jaishankar said while speaking at a fireside chat here with Newsweek's CEO Dev Pragad. He was asked about Trump's repeated claims that he used trade to get the neighbours to agree to a ceasefire after the escalation of India's Operation Sindoor in May. Last Wednesday, at a news conference in The Hague, Trump said again, despite India's denials, "I ended that with a series of phone calls on trade." "I said, 'Look, if you're gonna go fighting each other ... we're not doing any trade deal,'" he said. They responded that "You have to do a trade deal," the US President asserted. Jaishankar said that was not what happened, and diplomacy and trade were not interlinked and operated independently of each other. "I think the trade people are doing what the trade people should be doing, which is negotiate with numbers and lines and products and do their tradeoffs," he said. "I think they're very professional and very, very focused," he added. Operation Sindoor was launched by India against terrorist bases in Pakistan in retaliation for the Pahalgam terrorist attack by The Resistance Front, an outfit linked to Pakistan-supported Lashkar-e-Taiba.

In an article shared on LinkedIn, the PM wrote, 'While decades were spent doubting the ability of Indians to use technology, we changed this approach and trusted the ability of Indians to use technology.' Launched in 2015, Digital India was aimed at democratising access to technology and governance. Reflecting on its scale and success, the PM wrote, 'From how we govern, to how we learn, transact, and build, Digital India is everywhere.' PM Modi underlined that internet connections in India have jumped from 25 crore in 2014 to over 97 crore today. Over 42 lakh kilometres of Optical Fibre Cable, equivalent to 11 times the Earth-Moon distance, now links even the remotest villages. He highlighted that India's 5G rollout is among the fastest globally, reaching forward military zones such as Galwan and Siachen. On the startup front, the PM wrote that India now ranks among the world's top three ecosystems, supported by initiatives like the $1.2 billion IndiaAI Mission. As of May 2025, India had over 34,000 GPUs, the largest affordable compute access in the world. 'Digital India has not remained a mere government programme; it has become a people's movement,' PM Modi concluded. 'Let us build what empowers.
