‘Sanatan Mahakumbh a call for cultural unity'

visited Buxar on Thursday as part of a Janjagran Abhiyan to promote the upcoming Sanatan Mahakumbh, scheduled for July 6 at Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
Addressing a press conference, Choubey said the event was more than a religious gathering. "The Mahakumbh is a socio-cultural Mahayagna for national awakening. It aims to revive Sanatan values, promote social harmony and reinforce India's cultural unity," he said.
"If Sanatan exists, the nation exists and so do political parties. All Hindus and Muslims in this country are Sanatanis," he added.
Choubey confirmed that the event would see participation from Shankaracharyas, Mahamandaleshwars, religious leaders and cultural organisations nationwide.
Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Swami Shri Rambhadracharya Ji Maharaj and the heads of major Akhadas and Vedic institutions are also expected to attend.
A key highlight will be an ideological seminar on the theme 'Waiting for Lord Parashuram'. "The theme represents an awakened social consciousness, one that stands against injustice, upholds equality and furthers nation-building through Sanatan culture," Choubey said.

He urged people from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to attend and bring conches (shankhs) from home. "When thousands of conches are blown together at Gandhi Maidan, it will be a sight to behold," he said.
Reiterating an earlier demand, Choubey called for a grand statue of Lord Ram to be installed in Buxar, his Karmabhoomi. He also revealed that renovations of the long-neglected Light and Sound House near Ramrekha Ghat are nearing completion. With Rs 6 crore sanctioned by the ministry of tourism, the site will soon feature a laser and light show based on epics like the Ramayana.

Ladli Behna Yojana monthly aid to be ₹1500 after Diwali: MP CM Yadav
More than 1.27 crore women beneficiaries of Madhya Pradesh government's flagship Ladli Behna Yojana will get ₹1500 as monthly aid from Diwali, up from the current ₹1250, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Friday. He said a special budget of ₹27,147 crore has been earmarked for women, including ₹18,699 crore for the Ladli Behna scheme, he said. "Ladli Behna Yojana beneficiaries would receive ₹1,250 plus an additional ₹250 on Raksha Bandhan. After Diwali, the monthly benefit would be hiked to ₹1,500," he said at a women's empowerment and tribal pride conference in Sarai here. He also said 51 lakh girls have benefited from the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, receiving ₹672 crore in total assistance. The Ladli Behna Yojana was started on June 10, 2023 by then CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The aid at the time was ₹1000, which gradually got raised to ₹1250. The scheme is credited with giving the ruling BJP a resounding victory in the November 2023 assembly polls. Speaking on the occasion, Yadav also said more than 9,000 tribal families have been granted land rights under the Forest Rights Act. He also promised 33 percent reservation for women in upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

Gram Sabhas hold authority to prepare CFR management plans, says Centre
The power to prepare Community Forest Resource (CFR) management plans rests with villages through their Gram Sabhas and not with any department of either the Union or State governments, officials of the Tribal Affairs Ministry in New Delhi said on Friday (July 4, 2025). The role of governments is limited to assisting Gram Sabhas in this process, they added. This clarification follows the withdrawal of an order by the Chhattisgarh Forest Department that had prohibited CFR management work across the State in areas where rights had been granted under the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006. The order, issued by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests in May, had sparked State-wide protests from forest-dwelling communities and civil society groups. The Forest Department had cited a 2024 joint communication from the Union Ministries of Tribal Affairs and Environment, under which the Tribal Affairs Ministry was to prepare 'model' CFR management plans for circulation to States. Based on this, the Department claimed that no CFR management activity could proceed until these model plans were delivered. However, Union government officials told The Hindu that 'the joint communication was not supposed to halt CFR management work till the model plans are prepared'. State officials further explained that community-led forest resource management and conservation cannot have 'one plan that fits all', adding that each village will have to tailor their plans according to the nature, amount and geography of the forests in their respective areas. In their protest letters to the Chief Minister, Gram Sabhas alleged that the Forest Department was attempting to wrest control of CFR management from them - an authority they hold under the FRA and the CFR guidelines issued by the Tribal Affairs Ministry. The earlier Forest Department order had also interrupted plans by the Tribal Development Department to empanel NGOs to support villages in drafting their CFR management plans. With Thursday's withdrawal of the order, officials in Chhattisgarh confirmed that the process can now resume. 'We had asked for guidance from the Tribal Affairs Ministry on this and a formal response is expected any day now. It has also been learnt that the Union Ministry will soon be sharing its model plans, which will just be a broad framework,' a State official said. Though the FRA was enacted in 2006 with the intent of involving forest-dependent communities in conservation and management, it was only in 2023 that the Tribal Affairs Ministry issued detailed guidelines that gave exclusive authority to Gram Sabhas for preparing and approving CFR plans. The Ministry clarified that any synchronisation required with forest department codes should occur after Gram Sabhas have finalised their plans. To facilitate this process, the Union government in 2023 launched the Dharti Aba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyaan, a separate programme that enabled State governments to empanel NGOs to assist Gram Sabhas in preparing CFR management plans.

Decision on Hemavathi River Link Canal after spot inspection: Somanna
Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V. Somanna on Friday said a decision on the continuation of work on the Hemavati River Link Canal Project in the Tumakuru district will be taken after a spot inspection of the canal work. Mr. Somanna, who is also MP from Tumakuru, and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, chaired a meeting with elected representatives of Tumakuru and other districts and decided to take a final decision on the project after the spot inspection of the works done so far and feasibility of the supplying water to other districts. Farmers and BJP, and JD(S) leaders accused the ruling Congress of attempting to divert water to taluks of Bengaluru South district (Formerly Ramanagara). Tumakuru Rural MLA Suresh Gowda and Tumakuru City MLA Jyothi Ganesh demanded a feasibility study report from IISc on the link canal project. They would support the project if it is based on scientific data, they argued. However, diversion of water of the district to other districts without scientific basis would be opposed, they said.
