PM calls for action on disaster resilience in Paris Conference
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
on Saturday outlined five urgent global priorities for building disaster-resilient infrastructure, calling for a collective push to safeguard vulnerable regions, especially coastal and island nations, from the intensifying impacts of climate change.
Speaking at the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, 2025 - held for the first time in Europe - Modi said the world must "build infrastructure that stands firm against time and tide". He praised France and its president, Emmanuel Macron, for hosting the event and noted the significance of the upcoming UN Oceans Conference.
Five key global imperatives listed by Modi were integrating disaster resilience into education and skill programmes; creating a global digital repository of best practices; innovating disaster financing for developing nations; treating Small Island Developing States as 'Large Ocean Countries' deserving special attention; and strengthening early warning systems with better coordination and last-mile communication.
Framing his speech around recent devastating cyclones and typhoons across Asia, Africa, and the Americas, Modi emphasised that building resilience is no longer optional. He recalled India's own painful experience during the 1999 super-cyclone and the 2004 tsunami, and highlighted how the country responded by investing in resilient shelters and a tsunami warning system that now benefits 29 countries.

"PM Modi always on tour...should've country tourism ambassadors," says Sanjay Raut
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 2 (ANI): Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said he is always on tour and should have a tour and travel ministry. Speaking to reporters, Raut said, 'PM Modi is always on tour, he should have a tour and travel ministry, and should have country tourism ambassadors and should tell in Mann ki Baat what to eat in which country to go...' Raut also criticised the Modi government over Pakistan's growing influence at international forums. He said, 'Ever since PM Modi came, Jaishankar came, Amit Shah came, we could not prove this and today an important post was given to Pakistan in the United Nations. The Army Chief was invited to dinner at the White House.' He questioned the government for ignoring serious domestic issues, including farmers' suicides and recent terror attacks, saying, 'Does Modi Ji know that 1000 farmers died by suicide in Maharashtra in three months? Till now, they have been unable to find the killers in the Pahalgam attack. Air India is finished. They are not able to find out what happened to the plane that crashed in Ahmedabad, and Modi Ji is roaming abroad; this is the condition of the country.' Meanwhile, on the relationship between the RSS and BJP, Raut said, 'RSS and BJP are brothers. If RSS wants, then it can teach the BJP a lesson. The BJP that is seen today is based on the strength of RSS workers.' He further demanded that Prime Minister Modi question US President Donald Trump over his stance towards India. 'Prime Minister Modi should ask Trump what kind of drama you are doing with India. There is no one in the United Nations who can raise our voice. The way President Trump is trying to give power to Pakistan is a danger for India in the near future,' he added. (ANI)

"Stepmotherly treatment": Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge slams Central government over pending relief funds to Himachal Pradesh
New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday slammed the central government on the pending relief amount for Himachal Pradesh required during landslides and rainfall. In a post on social media X, Kharge wrote that the Himachal government had demanded a total relief package of Rs 9,000 crore. He further wrote that in 2023, the Congress had announced a total of Rs 4,500 crore to the state, while the Modi government only provided Rs 433 crore to the state, and called it a 'stepmotherly' treatment. 'Even before this year's rainfall, the Himachal government had demanded a total relief package of 9000 crore from the centre. In the 2023 tragedy, the Congress state government had released special assistance of 4500 crore, whereas the Modi government at the centre provided only 433 crore to the state,' he said 'Now, the Modi government has recently announced 2000 crore for 2023 in a hurry, and the BJP is busy taking credit for it, but the relief amount is still pending. This is the stepmotherly treatment of the BJP towards Himachal!! It is hoped that this time, instead of taking credit, the BJP will take action to provide help for the losses,' the post read. Kharge, in his post, demanded that the Central government release the pending disaster relief funds for Himachal Pradesh. He also expressed grief at the loss of lives in the state due to the heavy rainfall and landslides, stating that they were 'extremely distressing.' 'The news of loss of life and property due to heavy rainfall and landslides in Himachal Pradesh for the past several days is extremely distressing. The government and administration are engaged in relief and rescue operations on a war footing. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims. I appeal to Congress leaders and workers to provide every possible assistance to the public. We demand from the central government that the disaster relief funds pending for Himachal Pradesh for the past few years be released with immediate effect,' the post read. A total of 51 people have died while 22 others have been missing due to the torrential rains, flash floods and landslides in Himachal Pradesh, according to the latest official data. (ANI)

Masterstroke by Modi govt as Russia agrees to...., India set to boost it's arsenal by buying deadly weapons like...
Masterstroke by Modi govt as Russia agrees to...., India set to boost it's arsenal by buying deadly weapons like... Russian President Vladimir Putin is coming to Delhi in September this year to participate in the annual summit between India and Russia. This is the first time that the Russian President is visiting India since war with Ukraine. During this time, Russia is expected to offer both conventional and nuclear submarines and long-range cruise missiles. What is Russia expected to offer? According to reports, Russia is offering the lease and transfer of a second Akula class nuclear-powered attack submarine, at least six refurbished Kilo class submarines and 1500-kilometer-range Caliber cruise missiles. India currently has 17 conventional submarines, two-thirds of which were purchased in the 1980s and now these submarines are getting old. Their service life is ending. Therefore, India now needs new submarines. What are the benefits to India from Russia's proposal? Russia has been India's largest defense equipment supplier for the last five decades. Even today, 60% of India's military assets are of Russian origin, including T-72 and T-90 tanks, Kilo class submarines, and most importantly SU-30MKI fighter jets. The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, which India recently used to attack Pakistani airbases during Operation Sindoor, is a joint project of Russia and India. Although in the last few years India has reduced its dependence on Russia alone and started buying weapons from countries like Israel, South Korea, Germany, France and the US, Russia still remains India's largest defense partner. Why is Russian President's visit to India very important? This visit of Putin will be his first visit to India after the Russia-Ukraine war. This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Moscow on his first bilateral visit after becoming PM for the third time in July 2024 last year to participate in the 22nd India-Russia dialogue. Now, ahead of the 23rd dialogue, Russia is making offers to India in areas where the US cannot compete, such as nuclear submarines, long-range cruise missiles and S-500 air defense systems. The US has neither sold nor leased its nuclear submarine to any country till date. Apart from this, the US has also given its Tomahawk missile only to Britain. In such a situation, Russia remains the only most reliable option for India. The 1500 km range Caliber land-attack cruise missile is considered a major strategic offer from Russia.
