When asked a reporter at his
'I don't want any of us doing that,' he said.
Vrabel then quickly replied 'nope' when asked if he could offer more detail from that earlier moment in his career.

Eventually, however, he reflected on the episode. Vrabel took the bait when a reporter asked if he won the fight.

'I think I did,' he said. 'It's a good story about — don't use the fight — but about a veteran player. Greg Lloyd was a very dominant player, imposing figure. I got drafted in April, and he didn't say a word to me through OTAs. And I'm on the defense, mind you. So he didn't say a word to me the entire offseason.
'We go to training camp. There's a fight with me and a tight end, and I'm exhausted after practice, and I see this shadow come over me as I'm sitting in the locker room, and he's in his deep voice, and he's like, 'Yeah, the next time you want to come up underneath the face mask?' I was like, 'You just now are going to talk to me?' He's like, 'Yeah, I just wanted to make sure you weren't like a punk, and then I would talk to you.'

'It's a good example of just a veteran making sure that rookies kind of earn their stripes, I guess, a little bit.'
Asked if he has specifically told his players to not fight, Vrabel provided a detailed explanation.
'Of course,' Vrabel replied. 'We want to be able to practice the same way we have to play, which is physical and within the rules. Have a great play demeanor, finish through the whistle, and all those things.
'If you throw a punch, you're going to get kicked out of the game, which is going to cost the team. So I don't anticipate any of that,' he said. 'I want us to celebrate with our team and with the defensive unit, celebrate with each other. Offensive unit, get excited and celebrate with each other, not get into the taunting and the things that we can't have during the game.'
Vrabel, drafted by the Steelers, played with Pittsburgh from 1997-2000. But after not becoming a starter, he was allowed to test free agency. Bill Belichick and the Patriots gratefully swooped in to sign him, and the edge-rusher became an important part of the early part of New England's dynasty, winning three Super Bowls in four seasons.

Steelers Place Veteran Defensive Lineman on Injured Reserve

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially signed defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko and placed defensive tackle Dean Lowry on the injured reserve list, the team announced on Saturday. Fehoko will wear No. 79 with the Steelers. Lowry is in his second season with the Steelers after joining the club as a free agent in 2024. He appeared in 12 games last year and made one start, recording five tackles, one quarterback hit and one pass defended The Steelers are dealing with a rash of injuries at the defensive tackle position, with Lowry, Jacob Slade and Esezi Otomewo all suffering knee injuries during Wednesday's practice. In addition to Fehoko, the Steelers signed former Minnesota defensive tackle Kyler Baugh as the corresponding transaction for Slade's release. Lowry spent his first seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers, who drafted him out of Northwestern in the 2016 NFL Draft. Lowry became a starter in his second season with the Packers in 2017 and maintained at least a co-starting role in Green Bay through 2022. He had his most impactful season in 2021, when he recorded five sacks in addition to 42 tackles and five tackles for loss. He also had four passes defended and a fumble recovery. The Minnesota Vikings signed Lowry to a two-year deal last March. He played nine games for Minnesota before suffering a pectoral injury on Nov. 19 that ended his season. He was released on March 12. The Steelers signed him to a two-year contract on April 1, 2024 to help offset the loss of Armon Watts from their 2023 defensive line. Watts signed with the New England Patriots as a free agent. Slade, 25, is in his second season with the Steelers. He first joined the club on a future contract in January 2024. He spent all of the 2024 season on the Steelers practice squad, without appearing in a game, and was re-signed for 2025 this offseason. A Michigan State alum, Slade originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and spent his entire first pro season on their practice squad. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL, but never played for the team. Top Free Agent WR Spurns Steelers, Takes Visit Elsewhere

Keenan Allen, the top veteran wide receiver on the free agent market, took a visit with the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday and is interested in a reunion, according to a report by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been looking to add another playmaker since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. But Allen has already said that he is not interested in coming to Pittsburgh. 'There's two sides to the story. I mean, A-Rod being a quarterback, of course that interests you,' Allen said during a recent TikTok livestream. 'But Pittsburgh? No.' Allen, 33, proved to still have some gas left in the tank last season with the Chicago Bears. In 2024, he caught 70 passes for 744 yards (10.6 average) and seven touchdowns, making him the most productive wide receiver left on the open market. However, Allen is likely looking for a situation that will allow him to compete for a Super Bowl in his 13th NFL season. If he doesn't think the Steelers will give him that opportunity, then they can cross him off their potential list of wide receivers. Allen wasn't willing to completely close the door on signing with Pittsburgh, though. 'But hey, you never know,' Allen said. Allen spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers franchise, posting five 1,000-yard seasons, earning six Pro Bowl nods and winning NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2017. Allen would be an intriguing option for the Steelers, whose wide receiver room is quite thin after DK Metcalf, with Calvin Austin III, Robert Woods, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller and Ben Skowronek jockeying for roles at training camp. But Allen has primarily played in the slot for most of his career and the Steelers most need another outside option. The Steelers hosted former Buffalo Bills outside receiver Gabe Davis on a free agent visit, the only outward sign of their interest in adding a wide receiver so far, though they also have reportedly touched base with other teams about trades. Davis remains a free agent and could still be an option for the Steelers. Aaron Becker contributed to this story.
