Tirupati: Strongly defending Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar's allegations that 1,000 non-Hindus are working in TTD, BJP leader and TTD trust board member G Bhanu Prakash Reddy sought a door-to-door survey of TTD employees to find out non-Hindus working in TTD. Criticising YSRCP senior leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy for finding fault with Sanjay Kumar's statement, he dared him, who was also former TTD chairman, to press for the door-to-door survey.
'There are 22,000 employees, including contract and outsourced and regular, in which many are still practising other religious faiths in their homes. I myself asked the management to take up a door-to-door survey to find out those TTD employees following other religion during TTD board meetings,' he said.
He said such employees work in TTD, a Hindu religious institution, but reluctant to take Swamy vari prasadam or harathi. He wanted Karunakar Reddy stop deriving political mileage out of Sanjay Kumar's statement and extend his support to clean the TTD administration. He further said people will not forget the irregularities that had taken place in TTD during YSRCP rule 2019-24 and also appointing a Nasthika (non-believer) as TTD chairman.

NDA govt succeeded in making AP ganja-free: HM

Vijayawada: Home minister Vangalapudi Anitha announced that under the guidance of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the home department and Eagle Task Force have significantly curbed the menace of ganja in the state. Speaking to media at the Secretariat on Monday, the minister reiterated the government's commitment to making Andhra Pradesh drug and ganja-free. To achieve this, the Chief Minister formed a subcommittee comprising the education, excise, and tribal welfare ministers and established the Eagle Task Force, headquartered in Amaravati, with regional centres in Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam to prevent ganja cultivation and usage. CCTV cameras have been installed at vulnerable points to curb smuggling. The minister pointed out that last year, 2,114 drug peddlers were arrested, 831 cases were registered, and 293 vehicles were seized. Additionally, properties worth Rs 7.75 crore belonging to seven drug peddlers were confiscated. Under Operation Garuda, 100 joint teams conducted raids on medical shops statewide, resulting in the seizure of 150 shops for violating regulations. Anitha noted that during the previous YSRCP government, police from neighbouring states reported ganja smuggling originating from Andhra Pradesh. The situation has now improved, with ganja cultivation in the Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) districts eradicated and 31,185 alternative crop plants distributed to farmers. Awareness programmes are also being conducted in tribal areas to discourage ganja cultivation. Eagle Task Force IG Ravikrishna delivered a presentation on efforts to curb ganja cultivation and usage. He outlined rehabilitation measures for farmers transitioning away from ganja cultivation and shared plans to establish a data center to monitor and prevent drug usage. Large-scale awareness campaigns are also underway to promote a drug and ganja-free Andhra Pradesh, he said.

'We have strongly taken up the matter with Canadian authorities to hold the perpetrators of the act accountable,' he added. 'We hope the Canadian government will take necessary action to protect the religious rights of people,' the external affairs ministry said. The alleged incident took place at a procession taken out during the Chariot Fest Ratha Yatra organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in Toronto between July 11 and July 13, India Today reported. The celebration brings the idols of the Hindu deities Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra 'out from the temple and onto the streets, blessing everyone with their merciful glances', according to ISKON's website. Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday expressed concern about eggs being thrown at the event and said that the incident had caused deep anguish to the residents of the state. 'Such incidents not only grievously hurt the sentiments of Lord Jagannatha's devotees worldwide, but also cause deep anguish to the people of Odisha, for whom this festival holds profound emotional and cultural significance,' the Biju Janata Dal leader said on X. Patnaik urged the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Odisha to take the matter seriously and called on the external affairs ministry to 'register a strong protest with the Canadian authorities' about the incident. During the Rath Yatra in Odisha, the idols of Balabhadra, Subhadra and Jagannath are carried in chariots from the Jagannath temple to the Gundicha temple 2.6 kms away, where they stay for nine days. This year, the festival began on June 27 and concluded on July 5.
