11-acre Sadbhavana Park thrown open by CM and LG
'This garden will provide much-needed open recreational avenues in Delhi, especially to the people of Daryaganj and Old Delhi areas. The key features of the park are the chariot fountains, sculpture fountains, formal lawns, shaded eating plaza, and other public facilities,' a DDA official said. Kranti Udyan, the first park in the series, was inaugurated in January this year.
Inside the 11-acre park, there is a sculpture of five white horses driven by a charioteer, set in a circular water pond with fountains, and four magnificent sculptures of 'Yakshinis' (a mythological character), crafted by Padma Vibhushan sculptor Sudarshan Sahoo, are installed within the linear lawns.
The Sadbhavana Park has white marble pathways and sculptures contrasting with the linear green areas divided into lawns and low-maintenance plantation zones. 'A clock tower, currently under construction, will further enhance the park's aesthetic appeal. Additionally, a food van proposed to be operationalised near the parking, will attract visitors and enhance their overall experience,' the official added.
While inaugurating the park, the LG and CM planted a Moulsari tree in the centre of the baradari (an umbrella structure). Other officers planted the Pride of India (scientific name: Lagerstroemia Speciosa) saplings along the pathways.
Officials said that Sadbhavana Park was conceptualised as part of a scheme to decongest Kartavya Path lawns. It is a part of a larger landscape redevelopment project comprising three parks along Mahatma Gandhi road.
'The project aims to become a vibrant urban hub where visitors can immerse themselves in nature while enjoying the amenities of a well-maintained park,' the official said.

Fencing, signage revamp to help protect Yamuna floodplain: DDA
New Delhi: Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will restore and renovate Yamuna signage boards from Wazirabad Barrage to NH-24 on both banks of the river. Officials indicated the initiative aims to clearly mark the floodplain surrounding the northern ridge. The DDA is also implementing a steel fencing project covering 11km of the Yamuna floodplain from Wazirabad Barrage to ITO Barrage to safeguard the environmentally critical zone from unauthorised occupation. The selected contractor is expected to complete the Rs 18 crore project within four months. This action is part of a comprehensive strategy to preserve and safeguard the floodplain. In April, DDA reported to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) about recovering 24 acres of occupied land under the Yamuna Vanasthali project between Jan and April. The initiative will secure restored floodplain areas like Yamuna Vatika, Asita and other vacant patches on both eastern and western banks. A tender has been floated for this, the authority said. The developments comprise Asita East and West and Kalindi Aviral, encompassing Baansera Park, Vasudev Ghat, Amrut Biodiversity Park and Yamuna Vatika near Rajghat, spanning 740 hectares in total. The current Yamuna Vanasthali initiative — a floodplain restoration project on the eastern bank — extends from Wazirabad Barrage to Sarai Kale Khan ISBT Bridge, covering 236.5 hectares. The DDA intends to create connections between all existing and future parks situated along the Yamuna floodplain.

DDA to conduct photogrammetry survey using DGPS at Hauz Khas green spaces
New Delhi: Delhi Development Authority plans to conduct a photogrammetry survey using a differential global positioning system (DGPS) to create a three-dimensional map of four green spaces in Hauz Khas in south Delhi. Among them are the district park opposite RK Puram, Rose Garden, Master Plan green area and sports field and the Master Plan green area with the picnic hut. DDA plans to complete the survey, for which it has invited tenders, by 45 days and has sanctioned Rs 14.6 lakh. Photogrammetry is a technique that uses photographs to create three-dimensional models of objects and landscapes. It involves capturing images, often from multiple angles, and then using specialised software to process and analyse them to extract measurements and geometric information. The exercise usually involves aerial photography using drones or aeroplanes, or terrestrial photography from fixed points on the ground. DDA officials hope the mapping will demarcate the boundaries of the parks, land contours, structures and actual areas where development can be planned in the future. GPS typically provides accuracy in a range of metres, while DGPS can achieve centimetre-level accuracy. The agency selected for the work will be responsible for a detailed photogrammetry survey, preparing orthophoto maps and submitting soft copies in a geographic information system. "The agency shall also provide on-site basic training for GIS software," DDA's project document stated. The orthophoto maps are geometrically corrected aerial photographs or satellite images adjusted to remove distortions caused by camera tilt, lens and terrain relief. The orthophoto maps show geographical parameters like longitudes and latitudes in 3D views and all permanent features like structures, bore wells, roads, electric and telephone poles, high tension lines, mast lights, tracks or paths, drains, sewers, trees, etc. Over 16,000 acres of green area in Delhi fall under DDA's purview. This includes 10,400 acres spanning 729 public parks, 21,000 acres of biodiversity parks and 3,500 acres of the Yamuna floodplain, which are at various stages of restoration.

Kanwar panels to get Rs 1 lakh extra grant-in-aid
NEW DELHI: To ensure financial help to registered kanwar service committees or kanwar camps, the Delhi government has decided to provide an additional grant-in-aid of Rs 1 lakh each. There are 374 kanwar service committees across the city. The minimum grant will be Rs 1.5 lakh, while the maximum grant will be Rs 11 lakh. This comes after a day CM Rekha Gupta, reviewed the arrangements in Kanwar camps at Punjabi Bagh (Ashok Park), Tagore Garden, and Subroto Park. Besides, the government has also started distribution of containers filled with Ganga water and jute bags to the Kanwariyas to promote environmental protection. The government has announced providing grant-in-aid through the direct benefit transfer mechanism, which has been taken to remove the old tender-based process and enhance transparency and efficiency. Only registered committees with valid PAN, bank details, and registration certificates will be eligible for the grant.
