
Apple rolls out option for online buyers in India to video call its offline retailers
Apple
has rolled out the option to video call
Apple Store
retailers on its online store when purchasing a product.
India is only the second country after the US to get the feature, following the launch of the online store app earlier this year.
The service connects customers with an Apple Store team member via a secure, one-way video call to browse the latest Apple products, discover new features, and learn about Apple's trade-in program, financing options, and more from the comfort of their homes.

,' said Karen Rasmussen, Apple's head of Retail Online.
While the Specialist will appear on video, customers will remain on audio only. During the session, customers can get tailored, personalised advice, enabling them to compare models and learn more about available purchase options to decide on the product that best suits their needs. The service, offered in English, will support customers on iOS and non-iOS devices.
The service is available 10AM to 7PM from Monday to Friday.

The development comes even as Apple doubles down on the India market not just as an export hub, but a fast-growing market for its iPhones and Macs. Apple ranked sixth in Q2 2025 in the Indian smartphone market with the iPhone 16 family accounting for over 55% of its shipments, while the iPhone 15 and 13 continued to drive demand across price tiers, according to Canalys.

Godfather Of AI Warns Technology Could Invent Its Own Language: 'It Gets Scary...'
Geoffrey Hinton, regarded by many as the 'godfather of artificial intelligence' (AI), has warned that the technology could get out of hand if chatbots manage to develop their language. Currently, AI does its thinking in English, allowing developers to track what the technology is thinking, but there could come a point where humans might not understand what AI is planning to do, as per Mr Hinton. "Now it gets more scary if they develop their own internal languages for talking to each other," he said on an episode of the "One Decision" podcast that aired last month. "I wouldn't be surprised if they developed their own language for thinking, and we have no idea what they're thinking." Mr Hinton added that AI has already demonstrated that it can think terrible thoughts, and it is not unthinkable that the machines could eventually think in ways that humans cannot track or interpret. Warning about AI Mr Hinton laid the foundations for machine learning that is powering today's AI-based products and applications. However, the Nobel laureate grew wary of AI's future development and cut ties with his employer, Google, in order to speak more freely on the issue. "It will be comparable with the industrial revolution. But instead of exceeding people in physical strength, it's going to exceed people in intellectual ability. We have no experience of what it's like to have things smarter than us," said Mr Hinton at the time. "I am worried that the overall consequence of this might be systems more intelligent than us that eventually take control." Mr Hinton has been a big advocate of government regulation for the technology, especially given the unprecedented pace of development. His warning also comes in the backdrop of repeated instances of AI chatbots hallucinating thoughts. In April, OpenAI's internal tests revealed that its o3 and o4-mini AI models were hallucinating or making things up much more frequently than even the non-reasoning models, such as GPT-4o. The company said it did not have any idea why this was happening. In a technical report, OpenAI said, "more research is needed" to understand why hallucinations are getting worse as it scales up its reasoning models.

India dismisses Fake News claiming govt reviewing list of US goods exempted from tariffs
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) fact-checking handle on Sunday dismissed a fake news which claimed that the Indian government is currently reviewing a list of US-made products exempted from the tariffs after US President Donald Trump announced 25 per cent tariffs plus a penalty on domestic exports to America from August 1. An X handle named 'China in English' claimed 'The Indian government begins reviewing the list of U.S. products exempted from tariffs… and declares: No privilege without mutual respect' However, MEA FactCheck, the official social media handle of the fact-checking arm of the Ministry of External Affairs on the social media platform X, said, "This is FAKE News!.' MEA FactCheck on Sunday, 3 August 2025, refuted the post on U.S. products exempted from tariffs on the social media platform X. The fact-checking account also debunked another 'fake news' report floating around social media in order to prevent the spread of further disinformation amongst the people through the platforms. MEA FactCheck also refuted the claim that the government is 'considering suspending or reviewing certain bilateral agreements with the United States if hostile economic policies continue.' 'Fake News Alert! This is FAKE News. No such statement made,' according to the post from MEA on Sunday, highlighting that no such statement was made by the Indian government. Last week, US President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariff on all imports from India along with some additional undisclosed penalties. Trump cited the Asian nation's high tariff rates and its relationship with Russia as being the 'vast majority' buyer of military equipment and crude oil. Later, Trump called out both India and Russia as 'dead economies' amid the ongoing trade talks with India. In a suo motu statement in both the houses of Parliament, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said said, the government is examining the implications of these tariffs and is engaged with all stakeholders including exporters and industry for taking feedback of their assessment of the situation. "The government attaches the utmost importance to protecting and promoting the welfare of our farmers, workers, entrepreneurs, exporters, MSMEs and all sections of industry. We will take all necessary steps to secure and advance our national interest," he said. The commerce minister also said that in just over a decade, India has rapidly transformed from being one of the fragile five to the fastest growing major economy in the world and it is also widely expected that India will become the third largest economy in a few years.
