Girl is abducted by pedophile during family visit to Michael Jackson's childhood home

Daily Mail07-05-2025

A teenage girl was abducted at gunpoint by a pedophile during a family trip to Michael Jackson 's childhood home, then molested in a field, it is claimed.
Oasia Barnes is on trial this week after being accused of kidnapping the 17 year-old girl and her father from the home in Gary, Indiana, before beating her her.
Prosecutors say the 69-year-old led them from the former home of the King of Pop before separating them and forcing the girl to perform a sex act on him in a field.
The horrific incident happened last August when the father and daughter, from New York, decided to stop off in the city to visit the home.
According to The Chicago-Tribune, the teenager, whose identity has not been shared, told the court this week that Barnes had groped her after her forced the two of them into their rental vehicle.
She told the court: 'I was very scared. It was horrifying. It was disgusting', as she told the court as she told the court he forced her to perform a sex act on him.
The father of the girl also gave evidence this week and said that they arrived at the home with around a dozen fellow fans outside of it.
He told the court that Barnes passed him and his daughter, telling them 'don't forget your glove'. The man testified that he 'didn't think anything of it'.
After several minutes, a man that he identified in court as Barnes approached his daughter from behind with a gun and threatened to shoot her.
Initially believing it to be a robbery, the man recalled quickly handing over a few hundred dollars when he says Barnes ordered him to hand over his phone.
Barnes is then said to have led the two back to their rental vehicle by gunpoint, with the father telling a nearby Hispanic family to 'call the cops'.
The man told the court that Barnes ordered them into the car and had the girl sit on his lap in the backseat as he directed the father.
He recalled to the court that it was 'not looking good', as Barnes told him to park near an overgrown alley, the dad said.
The man said that Barnes told him: 'I'm going to borrow her' as he led his daughter out of the vehicle.
He told the court that he considered running the man down as he led his daughter away, pleading with him to not hurt her.
'I won't do her like that', the man recalled Barnes telling him before he tried to press the car's OnStar button for help.
After frantically following after the two on foot, he managed to get the attention of a woman at a neighboring house who he had dial 911.
The girl also said that she had been forced to hold Barnes hand after the assault and walk down the street with him and pretend to be his girlfriend.
She recalled that he briefly spoke with three people that he appeared to know. The girl said she asked how long she was going to be kept for, Barnes replied six months.
According to the outlet, she told prosecutor Tara Villarreal: 'I'm telling him I can't do this. I have to go to school.'
After hearing police helicopters overhead, she said Barnes bundled her into the rear of a property when he again groped her.
She said she continued to talk to him throughout in the hopes of getting distracted, telling the court: 'I have things I'm passionate about, I want to pursue. I need to keep myself alive.'
Shortly after police arrived on the scene and found the two in a basement stairwell, with Barnes then being arrested. Officers at the time said he had a handgun on him.
Barnes was charged with several felonies which includes felony rape and has denied all of the accusations against him.
Indiana court and prison records seen by the outlet indicate that he is a convicted serial rapist, with convictions dating back to the 1970s.
He was released in March 2024 after being imprisoned in 1985 for 70 years after he raped a woman at knifepoint, the outlet reported.
Barnes also served time for a rape in August of 1972 and a battery charge in May of 1978.
Jackson was born in Gary in 1958 and grew up in the home with abusive Svengali father Joe, who was credited with propelling Michael and his other children including Janet, La Toya, Tito and Jermaine to music stardom.
Jackson was dubbed the King of Pop thanks to decades of dazzling music success and is widely-regarded as one of the most talented musicians of all-time.
He died in 2009 aged just 50 and had been accused of sexually abusing multiple underage boys during his career, but never faced any criminal charges.

'Total ambush': Sniper starts fire then kills two firefighters in Idaho

A sniper started a fire and then killed two firefighters he had lured to the scene in Idaho, a local sheriff has said. A third firefighter underwent surgery after being wounded, Bob Norris, the sheriff of Kootenai County said. "We do believe that the suspect started the fire," Mr Norris told a press conference. "This was a total ambush. These firefighters did not have a chance." Officers said they were "taking sniper fire" near the city of Coeur d'Alene on Sunday afternoon, with crews responding to a fire at Canfield Mountain. Mr Norris said the gunman had used high-powered sporting rifles to fire rapidly at first responders. The ambush continued for several hours. Initially it was unclear how many perpetrators were involved. The man was described as being in an area with "heavy brush" and "well prepared and blending in" with his surroundings. Sheriff Norris said he instructed his deputies to fire back. More than 300 officers from city, county, state and federal levels responded. Two helicopters were deployed with snipers onboard. Speaking while the attack was ongoing, Mr Norris said: "I'm hoping that somebody has a clear shot and is able to neutralise, because they're not at this point in time showing any evidence of wanting to surrender." First responders could be heard making urgent calls for help on their radios: "Everybody's shot up here... send law enforcement now," one dispatch said. Later, the sheriff's office said members of a "SWAT team located a deceased male on Canfield Mountain", adding that a "firearm was found nearby". It is unclear whether he was hit and killed or if he killed himself. A motive is not yet known. Mr Norris said officers were working to identify the suspect. Officers were likely to find more guns at the scene on Monday once the fire was extinguished, he said, but did not provide more details on weapons recovered already. Governor Brad Little said "multiple" firefighters were attacked. "This is a heinous direct assault on our brave firefighters," he said on X. "I ask all Idahoans to pray for them and their families as we wait to learn more." The president of the International Association of Firefighters, Edward Kelly, said on social media that firefighters were "ambushed in a heinous act of violence", adding: "Two of our brothers were killed by a sniper, and a third brother remains in surgery." The FBI sent technical teams and tactical support to the scene, deputy director Dan Bongino said. The Idaho House Republican Leadership said in a statement: "We are horrified by the murder of two firefighters in Coeur d'Alene, and shocked by such a vicious attack on our first responders. We are praying for them, the injured, their families and their colleagues."

A violent ambush leaves 2 firefighters dead and another injured. What to know about the Idaho attack

Authorities say two firefighters were killed and another was badly injured after they were ambushed and shot while responding to a wildfire near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Sunday afternoon. Here's what to know about the attack, the investigation and next steps. Ambush starts with a brush fire Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris said firefighters first responded to an early afternoon report of a brush fire at Canfield Mountain, a popular and scenic hiking and biking area near the outskirts of town. But once the firefighters arrived, someone began shooting at them. The fire was set to lure the firefighters into an ambush, Norris said. Law enforcement officials responded, locking down the neighborhoods near the hiking area and trying to find the shooter in hilly terrain that had plenty of cover, with thick brush and trees and smoke from the fire nearby. First hours are chaotic, with injuries and number of shooters unknown Over the next few hours, it wasn't clear if hikers or other recreationists were stuck on the mountain, or if any civilians had been injured in the shooting, Norris said. What was clear was the danger the firefighters and responding law enforcement faced. They exchanged gunfire with the shooter, he said. 'We don't know how many suspects are up there, and we don't know how many casualties there are,' Norris told reporters at a 4:30 p.m. news conference. 'We are actively taking fire sniper as we speak.' A spokesperson with Kootenai Health, later confirmed that three patients were transported to the hospital — two were dead by the time they arrived, and a third was injured. The deceased included a firefighter from the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and one from Kootenai County Fire and Rescue. A third firefighter was badly injured but had made it through surgery and was 'fighting for his life,' Norris said later that night. Cell phone data helps law enforcement find the suspect Faced with more than 17,000 square feet (1,580 square meters) of containment area, part of it burning, authorities used cell phone data to narrow their search. They identified a cell signal around 3:15 p.m. and noticed it had not changed location for some time, Norris said. A tactical response team went to the location and found a deceased man with a weapon nearby. Officials believe the man was the shooter, the sheriff said. The fire complicates the crime scene The fire was burning close to the body of the suspect, and so authorities had to 'scoop the body up' before it was engulfed in flames, Norris said. Crews were stationed around the area overnight and the sheriff said the investigation would continue Monday morning. Norris said investigators believe that once they are able to fully search the area, they may find that more weapons had been placed by the suspect. Names and other details have not been released The names of the slain and injured firefighters have not been released. Nor has the name of the suspect, whose identity authorities are waiting to confirm, Norris said. A procession of fire and law enforcement vehicles accompanied the bodies of the fallen firefighters as they were taken from the hospital in Coeur d'Alene to the medical examiner's office in Spokane, Washington, a neighboring city just across the state line.
