The Athletic Fixes Browns 2018 NFL redraft
The 2018 draft was a pivotal point for the Cleveland Browns. The team juked their blossoming analytics department for a more traditional approach. Newly hired general manager John Dorsey burned through the team's excess draft capital from their 1-31 campaign. Dorsey managed to find a few franchise players in the draft, but couldn't find an answer at quarterback. Dorsey was fired a year later after he completely mismanaged the team's war chest.
Mays and Brugler, with the benefit of hindsight, fix the Browns' quarterback woes by selecting Josh Allen. Allen was a raw quarterback prospect entering the league. He refined his throwing technique and became one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. However, I think the two made a mistake by not selecting Lamar Jackson in the redraft. Jackson and Allen have been neck and neck in the rankings. The media cemented their rivalry this year by awarding Allen the MVP and giving Jackson the first-team All-Pro nod. I think Jackson has more magic than Allen. The Ravens have failed to build a passing attack around Jackson. However, Jackson has made the offense work with Baltimore's island of misfit toys. If the Ravens ever get him a top-notch wide receiver, they'll become a dangerous playoff team. While Allen is a dynamite quarterback, I still give the nod to Jackson. The Browns should've drafted either one.
Mays and Brugler fixed the Browns' defense with the fourth pick. The Browns drafted Ward with the pick in real life. However, the two had other plans to restore the defense. They selected linebacker Fred Warner to man the middle of the defense for the Browns. Warner has been the best linebacker in the league for the last few seasons. He's become the prototype for the position. The Browns would've been lucky to have him. But I have an allegiance to Ward. I think he's been the best cornerback after Jalen Ramsey since his rookie season. He's one of the best technicians in the NFL. I believe he has the best soft press coverage skills in NFL history. His injuries have prevented him from getting the accolades he rightfully deserves. Warner is a fantastic player, and he's on the path to Canton.
Mays and Brugler have the Browns' two future Hall of Fame players in their redraft. The duo showed a lot more love to the team as they had four Browns players selected in their first-round redraft. Watch the show to find out where they sent some current Browns' greats.

What is the Bills' biggest remaining need heading into 2025 NFL season?
The Buffalo Bills are on a quest for a Super Bowl in 2025 but the team still has needs. Every NFL team usually does. No roster is perfect at this time of the year. As far as Buffalo is concerned, what is their biggest remaining need with the 2025 NFL season inching closer with the start of training camp at the end of July? CBS Sports says it's the safety position. The Bills enter the upcoming season instilling some hope in Cole Bishop. A second-round pick a year ago, Bishop did not get his footing early in his career as Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp started over him. The point of safety being a concern makes sense since Bishop has yet to prove himself. However, the reason the Bills did not address that position this offseason is because of him. CBS Sports' breakdown on Bishop can be found below: Buffalo did draft Ohio State safety Jordan Hancock in the fifth round, but a healthy competition is expected to ensue with Cole Bishop and Taylor Rapp. Cornerback would be another consideration given the recent judicial events involving first-round pick Maxwell Hairston.

Who is the Commanders' player to root for not named Jayden Daniels or Terry McLaurin?
The Washington Commanders were the NFL's biggest surprise of the season. After years of losing and dysfunction, Washington finally turned things around last season, posting a 12-5 record and reaching the NFC Championship. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels was the catalyst, quickly becoming the NFL's next star quarterback. As a result, his jersey was a top seller. Daniels should be a fan favorite for years to come, unless you root for the Eagles, Cowboys, Giants, or Bears. Why Chicago? Bears' fans developed a strange obsession with Daniels after he outplayed No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams last season. Oh, and let's not forget, Daniels' Hail Mary to shock the Bears as time expired was so incredible that it won an award at NFL Honors. While Daniels is an obvious fan favorite, as is star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, what other Commanders' player should fans root for in 2025? Well, everyone loves a good comeback story. Right? Defensive tackle Daron Payne isn't coming back from injury, but is coming off two subpar seasons after a breakout season in 2022. This offseason, defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. and head coach Dan Quinn singled out Payne for having a "remarkable" offseason. Tom Blair of named one player from every team to root for in 2025 and made a compelling case for Payne as his choice. Many of us are already rooting for Jayden Daniels, because, duh, and for Terry McLaurin, because he's A) very good and B) paid his dues in the extreme as a mainstay of the franchise's pre-Daniels days. How about giving some love to the other roster stalwart who has Really Gone Through It in Washington? Jonathan Allen's departure this offseason leaves Payne (drafted 13th overall in 2018) as one of the longest-tenured Commanders, someone who's started 84 straight regular-season games for the team -- just 38 of which ended in victory, including 12 last season. The 28-year-old is as deserving as anyone of reveling in Washington's transformation into a legit contender. All the better if Payne, whose pressure rate and sack totals dipped after an 11.5-sack 2022 season, can translate the positive buzz he's been generating to a renewed dominance on the field. Allen probably would have been the choice if the team hadn't parted ways with him over the offseason. However, Blair makes a strong case for Payne. The eighth-year standout is dependable, having started every game in six of his seven NFL seasons to date. That's difficult as an interior defensive lineman. He also proved in 2022 that he could be a dominant force. The Commanders struggled to stop the run last season. Payne is capable of making a significant impact as a run defender and pass rusher. If he can do that, Washington fans will be chanting his name at Northwest Stadium as they hope for another deep playoff run.

Jacksonville Jaguars' WR Brian Thomas Jr. goes top 5 in 2024 NFL redraft
The Jaguars miss out on Brian Thomas Jr. in a 2024 NFL redraft as the wide receiver is picked in the top five. In a very early redraft of the 2024 NFL draft constructed by SI's Daniel Flick, the Jacksonville Jaguars did not have the chance to pick Brian Thomas Jr. again. Instead, Thomas ended up being a top-five pick. In this redraft, in what was a loaded wide receiver draft class, Thomas ended up being the first wideout taken and the first non-quarterback selected as well, going fourth overall to the Arizona Cardinals. "Thomas finished one spot ahead of Malik Nabers in AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and led all rookie receivers with 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns," wrote Flick. "His 87 receptions finished third-best among all first-year players." The Jaguars would end up picking wide receiver Rome Odunze at 23rd overall. As noted by Flick, Thomas put together a dominant rookie season. Going beyond just the rookie class, his 1,282 receiving yards were the third-most among all wide receivers, and he was seventh in yards per route run, an efficiency metric. Making Thomas' production all the more impressive was that he continued to put up big numbers when defenses knew the ball was coming his way and with some unsteady quarterback play when the Jaguars were without Trevor Lawrence. This season, under new head coach Liam Coen, we are going to see Thomas' role expand within this offense. This not only refers to potential opportunities, but also what he's asked to do, which can include lining up in the slot more often and attacking each level of the field with more regularity and doing so in a variety of ways. "He's got those freakish talents, man," Coen said of Thomas during offseason programs. "He's got some freakish traits. Just his attention to detail in the meeting room setting." Coen added, "The ability for a big dude like him to be able to operate in the slot, run some of the choice and option routes, but also be able to go vertical and catch the ball downfield, he's been a real pleasure to work with."
