BJP MLA for temporary closure of liquor, meat shops on kanwar routes
Hindu Sena's national president, Vishnu Gupta, has also urged chief minister Rekha Gupta to close all meat shops and slaughterhouses along these roads.
In his letter to Shah, Marwah, who represents Jangpura assembly constituency, stated that a temporary ban on liquor and meat shops would ensure the piety of the kanwar yatra and prevent any possible untoward incident. "We appeal that meat and liquor shops on the designated routes of the kanwar yatra are temporarily shut down so that its sanctity is maintained and there are no untoward incidents," wrote Marwah, who is also a member of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

He sought time for a meeting between the office bearers of Sri Guru Singh Sabha and Shah, so that they could submit a memorandum to Shah. Marwah said Sri Guru Singh Sabha was a religious body that honoured all religions. Marwah also said the members of Sri Guru Singh Sabha would approach the owners of meat and liquor shops, urging them to respect the religious sentiments of the devotees. Drinking water, medicines and resting camps will also be arranged by the gurudwaras for the kanwariyas, he said.

Talking to TOI last week, Delhi tourism minister Kapil Mishra, who heads the panel of four MLAs overseeing the preparations of the yatra in the capital, also said all meat shops along the route of the kanwariyas in Delhi would be shut down during the event.

‘Neither central nor state forces allowed in assembly'
1 2 Kolkata: The advocate general, in his submission to Calcutta High Court, on Tuesday denied BJP 's allegation of discrimination between central and state forces on the Bengal assembly precincts. AG Kishore Datta pleaded that neither central nor state forces were allowed as security to MLAs. "However, there are some policemen deployed in the House, without arms, on the directions of the high court," Datta said. He submitted that all other security personnel were made to wait in shelters. "The prayer made by the leader of opposition (Suvendu Adhikari) to allow central forces within the assembly precincts/House would result in an order of reverse discrimination," the AG said. The AG urged the court of Justice Amrita Sinha to consider whether a direction to the legislature presided over by the speaker, who enjoys certain privileges and immunity under Articles 178, 194, 208, 212 and Entry 13 of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution, was preferable and how far the functions of the legislature could be brought under the purview of judicial review. Senior counsel for Adhikari, Billwadal Bhattacharya, held that the point of the matter was whether constitutional provisions could be suspended by issuing an administrative letter from the speaker's office. Justice Sinha adjourned the hearing till July 21.
