Fadillah to brief GPS and GRS MPs on national issues
Fadillah said the briefings are important to ensure all MPs in the Unity Government are well-informed on matters discussed in Cabinet.
'For GPS, we have no issue. With our small number of MPs, I can engage with them directly. These matters were discussed in Cabinet, so I know what needs to be clarified.
'If the Prime Minister were to meet all MPs individually, time would be limited. I can assist by briefing GPS and GRS MPs,' he told reporters after attending the 'AI for MY Future' programme at CENTEXS here today.
He was responding to questions on whether GPS MPs were involved in the Prime Minister's meeting at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya, yesterday.
The meeting reportedly addressed current issues, including the upcoming Parliamentary sitting.
Fadillah said a full briefing session for GPS and GRS MPs would be held soon.
'A retreat involving all Unity Government MPs, including ministers and deputy ministers, is scheduled for next week. We'll use that platform to provide further explanation,' he said.
He also confirmed he will be in Sabah tomorrow for a meeting of the Technical Committee under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (JKMTPMA63), adding that it does not involve any political agenda. - Bernama

He said the proposal, submitted by the state government, is based on Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution and will be brought to the prime minister's attention at the meeting, Sabah Media reported. Fadillah, who chaired a special MA63 technical committee meeting in Kota Kinabalu today, said the session was focussed on Sabah's constitutional revenue claims and possible interim solutions. 'We've heard the presentations and proposed solutions from the Sabah government. These proposals have also received feedback from the finance ministry and the Attorney-General's Chambers at the federal level,' he was quoted as saying. Fadillah also acknowledged the ongoing challenge by the Sabah Law Society, which may have legal implications. 'Therefore, we must proceed cautiously, but our goal is to reach a mutually agreed solution outside of court,' he said. Asked whether a final decision could be expected before Malaysia Day, he did not give any confirmation but reiterated that the federal-level meeting was already fixed for Sept 12. The revenue sharing formula has been a contentious issue for decades. Sabah politicians have called for the federal government to honour the state's entitlement to 40% of the amount which exceeds the net revenue derived in 1963. Use of the formula has been suspended since 1974, with the federal government paying increased special grants to Sabah and Sarawak.

Over 60,000 in Sabah and Labuan to benefit from major utility upgrades, says Fadillah
KOTA KINABALU: Over 60,000 electricity users in Sabah and Labuan are set to benefit from improved utility services following the implementation of major government-backed infrastructure projects spearheaded by the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (Petra). The projects aim to upgrade and expand essential services, including electricity supply, water distribution and flood mitigation, to enhance the quality of life and economic development in the region. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stressed the Federal Government's commitment during a working visit to Sabah under the Skuad Petra programme, an initiative that brings top federal leaders to project sites to assess progress and address challenges directly with state authorities and implementing agencies. 'A total of 60,434 consumers in Sabah and Labuan will benefit from a stable and efficient power supply through the implementation of seven energy projects worth over RM260mil by the ministry. 'This is about ensuring development translates into real outcomes for the people, whether it is electricity, clean water, or flood prevention. "Where there are issues, we are here to resolve them,' the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister told reporters after officiating the Main Intake Substation (PMU KKBU) in Tanjung Aru near here on Monday (July 14). Among the major projects completed are the Labuan-Sipitang 275kV interconnection, part of the Asean Power Grid, enabling electricity import from Sarawak to Sabah, new substations and upgraded distribution systems in Ranau, Batu Sapi, and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to reduce reliance on diesel power, a 15km undersea fibre optic cable between Menumbok and Tanjung Aru to enhance grid security, and an upgraded 11kV metering system in Labuan, completed late last year. Fadillah's delegation also reviewed the Sungai Damai Basin 8 Flood Mitigation Project, which is over 54% complete. Once finished, it is expected to benefit around 17,500 residents in flood-prone areas around Kota Kinabalu. This project is one of 27 infrastructure initiatives currently underway in Sabah under the latest national rolling development plan. The overall allocation supports flood mitigation, river rehabilitation, coastal protection, and related works carried out by the Irrigation and Drainage Department. The Labuan-Sipitang grid connection is part of a broader plan to position Sabah as a key player in the Asean Power Grid, aimed at linking Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Philippines. 'I have been informed that installation works are almost done, although I do not have the exact date. Since it falls under Sarawak's jurisdiction, I believe it may be completed within this year … if I am not mistaken,' Fadillah said. Once completed, the system will enable Sabah to import power from Sarawak, beginning with 30MW and potentially scaling up to 500MW. Skuad Petra also visited Kota Kinabalu International Airport, where Malaysia Airports is implementing a rooftop solar system under the Selco (self-consumption) initiative. Approved in 2022, the system will generate up to 4MW of renewable energy for airport operations. The final site visit was to the Ketiau Phase 1 Sewerage Treatment Plant, a large-scale sanitation project serving the greater Ketiau area. Nearly 70% complete as of June, the facility includes a treatment plant capable of serving 50,000 people, along with over 9km of pipeline and the integration of three older systems. Fadillah acknowledged the challenges faced during implementation but stressed that the government remains committed to ensuring timely delivery. 'These projects reflect our efforts to improve the quality of life for the people of Sabah. We will continue monitoring their progress and work closely with all stakeholders to see them through,' he said.

Fadillah: Federal govt helps Sabah improve public health and flood mitigation
KOTA KINABALU: The federal government, through the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, is stepping up efforts to improve public health infrastructure and flood resilience in Sabah. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the Putatan Phase 1 Centralised Sewerage Scheme, valued at RM134.4 million, is currently 69.85 per cent complete as of last month. "Launched in December 2020, the project aims to upgrade sewage infrastructure in the rapidly urbanising Putatan district. "It is slated for completion by March 3, 2026," he said after visiting the project near here. The scope of the project includes a new sewage treatment plant with a 50,000 population equivalent (PE) capacity and 9.9km of new sewage pipeline network, the rationalisation of three existing small-scale sewage treatment plants, and the construction of a 60m pipe bridge. Fadillah, who is energy transition and water transformation minister, said one of the major challenges in implementation has been the discovery of large boulders underground, which delayed pipe-laying works. "The contractor has increased the number of pipe jacking teams to three as of June 2025, allowing simultaneous work at project sites. "The project is expected to significantly enhance public sanitation, improve environmental sustainability, and support long-term development in the Putatan area." Meanwhile, the Sungai Damai Flood Mitigation Project (RTB) in Basin 8 is some 54 per cent completed. This RM48 million project is part of the federal government Development Expenditure channeled to Sabah through the ministry. It began in September 2023 and is targeted for completion by July 2026. The project includes upgrading drainage systems, constructing a pumping station, building culverts and flood control gates. These interventions are expected to protect around 17,500 residents in the surrounding areas from recurrent flooding. This year, the ministry has approved development expenditure of RM153.3 million under the 12th Malaysia Plan (Rolling Plan 5) for 27 projects under the Drainage and Irrigation Department. These projects cover flood mitigation, coastal erosion control, river mouth rehabilitation, riverbank stabilisation, and mechanical and electrical works.
