CAIRO, July 30 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty asserted the special nature of the relationship between Egypt and the US.
He expressed Egypt's keenness to strengthen cooperation and coordination with both chambers of the US Congress in various fields that serve the mutual interests of the two nations.
This came during his meeting in Washington with US Senator Brian Schatz, a ranking member of the US Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations.
Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's interest in deepening economic, trade and investment relations with the US.
He highlighted the outcomes of the Egypt-US Economic Forum, held in Cairo on May 25-26, which brought together over 50 American companies and marked a significant step in enhancing bilateral economic engagement.
Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's continued efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East, amid growing challenges in the region.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, Abdelatty presented Egypt's ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at securing a ceasefire and ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave, where living conditions continue to deteriorate.
He also underlined Egypt's broader efforts to restore calm and create the conditions necessary for a just and lasting political resolution to the Palestinian cause.
The meeting also covered developments in the Sahel region and West Africa, particularly the escalating security threats posed by the spread of terrorist organizations and armed militias. (MENA)

US Closes Embassy in Haiti Amid Gunfire

Israa Farhan The United States has temporarily closed its embassy in Haiti following intense gunfire near its diplomatic compound in the capital, Port-au-Prince, amid escalating gang violence in the region. In a statement published on X (formerly Twitter), the US State Department confirmed the closure and advised American personnel to remain inside the embassy. The message cited reports of heavy gunfire in the Tabarre district, located near the US Embassy and close to Port-au-Prince International Airport in the northeastern part of the city. 'Due to reports of sustained gunfire near the US Embassy in Tabarre, all official movements by US government personnel have been suspended. The public is advised to avoid the area,' the statement read. The closure comes as Haiti continues to suffer from spiraling violence driven by armed criminal gangs. According to a July report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, at least 3,141 people were killed across the country between January 1 and June 30, 2025. The UN warned of further unrest as gang activity continues to expand with little state resistance. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Over 10,000 European Hotels Launch Legal Action Against Booking.com

Israa Farhan More than 10,000 hotels across Europe have joined a class action lawsuit against seeking compensation for financial losses allegedly caused by the platform's long-standing use of restrictive pricing policies. The suit, coordinated by the Hotel Claims Alliance and supported by HOTREC, the umbrella association representing hotels, restaurants, and cafés across the EU, aims to recover damages incurred between 2004 and 2024. Central to the claim are the so-called "best-price" clauses that prevented hotels from offering lower prices on their websites or other booking platforms. Thirty national hotel associations, including Germany's IHA, are backing the initiative. The lawsuit is to be filed in Amsterdam, where is headquartered. It references a ruling by the European Court of Justice on September 19, 2024, which found such clauses to be anti-competitive and unlawful under EU regulations. The platform officially discontinued the practice in 2024 following the enforcement of the EU Digital Markets Act. HOTREC President Alexandros Vassilikos stated that European hoteliers have endured years of unfair commercial conditions, calling the lawsuit a united stand against digital market abuses. Due to overwhelming interest, the deadline to join the lawsuit has been extended until August 29. In response, stated it has not received formal notification of legal proceedings and described HOTREC's announcement as a public statement rather than an active class action. The company maintains that all partner accommodations are free to determine their own pricing and distribution strategies. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

US to Require up to $15,000 Visa Bond in New Trial

Israa Farhan The United States plans to launch a pilot visa policy requiring applicants from certain countries to pay a refundable bond of $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000 when applying for work or tourist visas. The 12-month program, announced by the US Department of State, targets nationals from countries with high visa overstay rates or weak internal document controls. It aims to ensure compliance with visa conditions and reduce the financial burden on the US government in case of violations. Set to take effect 15 days after its publication in the Federal Register, the program applies to temporary business and tourism visa seekers. Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries are exempt, and other exemptions may apply depending on individual circumstances. Although the visa bond concept has been proposed in the past, it was not implemented due to concerns over refund logistics and public confusion. The Department now argues there's no recent evidence to oppose the policy and sees it as a practical enforcement measure. A list of affected countries will be released once the program begins. The move reflects broader efforts to strengthen US immigration oversight. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
