Canadian creators Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol star in this time-traveling comedy film based on their mockumentary TV series 'Nirvanna the Band the Show,' which aired for two seasons from 2017 to 2018. As in the series, the duo play musicians Matt and Jay, who, though they've never written or recorded a song, make it their mission to play a concert at Toronto's Rivoli. Orbitz proves crucial to Matt and Jay's journey in a way we wouldn't dare spoil. Johnson directs the film from a script he wrote with McCarroll.
Variety chief film critic Peter Debruge called the film 'far and away the wildest film of the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival,' adding, 'Hilarious as the movie can be, there's an even more amusing meta level on which we laugh at how insane it is that it exists at all, marveling how they pulled it off.'
Johnson previously made a splash on the festival circuit with the 2023 Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton-led dramedy 'BlackBerry,' for which McCarrol was the composer. Previous directorial credits include 'The Dirties' and 'Operation Avalanche.'

Cool Early Concept Art Revealed For Galactus in THE FANTASTIC FOUR

When The Fantastic Four: First Steps finally brought Galactus to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans were ecstatic to see that he looked exactly like we always imagined, and ripped straight out of the pages of the comics. Thanks to new concept art revealed by Ryan Meinerding, the movie's head of visual development, we now know that this comic-accurate look was baked into the design from the very beginning. In an interview with Variety, Meinerding opened up about his work bringing the Devourer of Worlds to life and how central Jack Kirby's legendary designs were to the creative process. 'There was a lot of work on Galactus, trying to figure out the appropriate scale and how he's going to be experienced for the first time, and we did key frames surrounding that. But Galactus was a complete joy to work on.' The scale of Galactus was clearly a challenge, not just in terms of size but in capturing that intimidating, otherworldly presence. 'He was challenging to try to get as much detail on. He was meant to be one of those cosmic characters that you almost can't fully appreciate how big he is. We also stayed close to the Kirby design. 'So I'd say that out of the designs I worked on, Galactus and The Thing are probably two of the most Kirby-inspired characters I've ever been able to work on.' This kind of love and loyalty to Kirby's iconic style is what made Fantastic Four: First Steps feel so damn special. The film gave us that larger-than-life sense of awe and wonder that made the comics timeless. You could feel the cosmic awesomeness, the pure sci-fi magic, and the bold visual storytelling that Kirby poured into every panel. Seeing Galactus revealed in this way just solidifies how much care was put into getting him right. From the very start, Marvel knew what fans wanted, and they delivered something that both honors the past and brings that epic energy to a new generation.

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau Are ‘Interested in Each Other'

THE RUNDOWN Pop star Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sparked romance rumors in July after being seen on what looked like several dates in Montréal. A source speaking with People this week has said that the pair definitely share an interest in one another, but there are some roadblocks to a potential relationship. 'They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,' the insider stated. 'She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common.' The source added, 'Music is one of many things they can share. Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult.' Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire announced their split in 2023 after 18 years together. Perry ended her long term relationship with actor Orlando Bloom in early July. Though they're now both single and free to pursue a relationship, the source explained that certain logistics make it difficult. 'Their own personal responsibilities could make this relationship move slower than it would, but there are ways to see the other and still fulfill their parenting responsibilities,' the source said. 'For one thing, they each have an ex. So, duties are split in half. And long-distance relationships, while still hard, are possible for these two.' A second source told People, 'Justin is a [politician] who is used to living a secret life with his personal activity, and wouldn't put on a public display at this stag. He knows they were being watched and is smart enough to play it low-key for now.' '[The] timing seems good for them, although a romance is in very early stages,' the source added.
