Kota Kinabalu: An NGO warned of potential challenges in seat negotiations between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Barisan Nasional (BN) following the attempted coup led by Sabah BN Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin against Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Sabah-based Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) also said the State's ruling coalition was being continuously attacked by Umno, the BN lynchpin. 'Compounding matters is that Bung still heads Sabah Umno. Hence, a concrete decision in terms of seat negotiations between GRS and BN will be difficult to achieve,' G57 Chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar said in a statement. He said a clash between GRS and BN at the 17th state election would be hard to avoid. However, clashes between the coalitions should be perceived as 'friendly competition' as they are part of the same team at the federal level. He was commenting on the agreement between Pakatan Harapan (BH) Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his BN counterpart Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the coalitions to work together in facing the Sabah state election. Top Sabah PH leaders have described the central leadership decision as a rational move, given the nature of the coalition's relationship at the federal level. Two years ago, Bung failed to overthrow Hajiji in a coup later dubbed the 'Kinabalu Move'. Last month, an analyst told FMT that an electoral pact in Sabah between BN and PH for the impending state election would be tricky, chiefly due to the presence of Bung. Two Sabah reps, businessman to face graft charges tomorrow over mining licence scandal
KOTA KINABALU, June 29 — Two state assemblymen and a businessman arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under Ops Adun, are reportedly scheduled to be charged tomorrow. New Straits Times wrote that the Sabah MACC said the trio are expected to be charged at the Special Corruption Court here at about 9am. They will face a total of four charges under the MACC Act 2009. Two of the charges will be brought under Section 16(b)(A) of the Act for offering bribes, while the other two will be under Section 16(a)(A) for accepting bribes. So far, 15 politicians have been implicated in corrupt activities between 2023 and 2024, in exchange for assistance in processing mineral exploration licence applications. Earlier this month, MACC said it would charge two Sabah assemblymen and a civilian in court this month over a corruption scandal involving the mining licences. MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki told reporters that the individuals were in the process of being arrested and notified about their court dates.

Tok Mat: Umno, BN open to working with Sabah parties in state polls
TANGKAK: Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) are open to forging alliances with Sabah-based parties for the coming state election. Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said that BN recognised the need to work with other parties. "We can no longer go it alone. We need other partners to face this state election," he said, adding BN has already agreed to work with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the polls. He added that the coalition was also exploring cooperation with local parties. "We want to enter the Sabah state election as a strong team, not one that is forced to fend off all sorts of things," he said after officiating the Ledang Umno divisional meeting here today. Mohamad said a strong team would ensure voters are not confused when giving their support, thus enabling them to govern the state. Previously, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) rejected political cooperation with BN in this state election. PBS was a former BN component party before leaving the coalition after the 14th General Election, following BN's defeat. The Sabah State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to be automatically dissolved on Nov 11 this year. Earlier this week, Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin denied inviting PBS to rejoin the coalition or work together in the coming election. Previously, Sabah Umno chief Datuk Bung Moktar Radin denied inviting PBS to rejoin the coalition or proposing cooperation with the party. This followed PBS' statement that the party would not work with BN in the polls.

Trump backs Netanyahu, slams Israeli corruption trial
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said Saturday the United States was "not going to stand" for the continued prosecution of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on corruption charges. "The United States of America spends Billions of Dollar a year, far more than on any other Nation, protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. Netanyahu responded on X, saying "thank you again" and promising that "together, we... will make the Middle East Great Again!". An Israeli court on Friday rejected Netanyahu's request to postpone giving testimony in his corruption trial, ruling that he had not provided adequate justification for his request. In one case, Netanyahu and his wife Sara are accused of accepting more than US$260,000 worth of luxury goods such as cigars, jewelry and champagne from billionaires in exchange for political favors. In two other cases, Netanyahu is accused of attempting to negotiate more favorable coverage from two Israeli media outlets. Netanyahu has denied any wrongdoing and has thanked Trump for his support in Israel's war with Iran, which saw a ceasefire agreement earlier this week. His lawyer had asked the court to excuse the leader from hearings over the next two weeks, saying he needs to concentrate on "security issues." Trump on Wednesday sprung to Netanyahu's defence, describing the case against him as a "witch hunt." On Saturday, he described Netanyahu as a "War Hero" and said the case would distract the prime minister from negotiations with Iran and with Hamas, the Gaza-based Palestinian armed group that Israel is at war with. "This travesty of 'Justice' will interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations," said Trump, although it was unclear what negotiations he was referring to with regards to Iran. Hamas took 251 hostages during its Oct 7, 2023, attack on Israel, with 49 still believed to be held in Gaza, including 27 the Israeli military says are dead. Talks are ongoing for the return of the remaining hostages and the bodies of those killed, while Israel's punishing war on Gaza continues unabated. The US leader also likened Netanyahu's legal troubles to his own before he took office for his second term. "It is a POLITICAL WITCH HUNT, very similar to the Witch Hunt that I was forced to endure," said Trump. The Republican was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in May 2024 in a case related to hush money payments to a porn star.
