Lawrence Shankland sticks with Hearts
However, after becoming a free agent this summer and exploring his options, Shankland has been persuaded by recently-installed manager Derek McInnes to accept an offer to become the club's highest-paid player.

The striker flew out to Spain on Wednesday evening to meet up with the Hearts squad at their pre-season training base and the Jambos announced on Thursday afternoon that he has agreed a deal until 2028, bringing to an end a long-running contract saga.
'Lawrence's not only been ingrained in the club the last few years, he's been a big player for the club, knows his way about the Premiership, knows his way to goal,' McInnes told the Hearts website.
'It just made so much sense on so many levels for me. I've known Lawrence since he was a young boy and I know how important family is to him and how important being happy is.
'I always felt that that was a huge advantage for us. Not only does he enjoy his time at Hearts, those family connections are always very strong.'
Shankland marked his first campaign at the club by becoming the first Hearts player in 31 years to score more than 20 goals in a season and then netted 31 goals in 2023-24 to earn himself every Scottish Premiership Player of the Year award available and secure a place in the Scotland squad for Euro 2024.
He's back.

The former Ayr and Dundee United forward's most recent campaign was more of a struggle in front of goal and he incurred the wrath of some fans after a costly Conference League penalty miss away to Cercle Brugge in November, although he did notch five times in his final five appearances to leave supporters clinging to the hope that he might decide to remain at Tynecastle.
The retention of their most prolific forward of the 21st century represents a significant coup at a time when Hearts are embarking on an exciting new era in partnership with Jamestown Analytics and with Brighton owner Tony Bloom on board as a minority investor.
'I do feel that having that recognised number no.9, a goal scorer with a real pedigree, Scotland internationalist, the motivation for Lawrence to do well here at not only a club that he loves, a club that he's happy with,' added McInnes.
'You see the way he's embraced his team-mates this morning. He's a really popular boy, but he's got so much to do here. In my time at Hearts, I want to make sure it's successful and I want Lawrence to feel exactly the same and he does.
'We want to be lifting silverware. We want to be going into group stages in Europe and we want to have a consistent thing going here and that is the driver for all of us. I do feel that having Lawrence in the building gives us a better chance of achieving all that.'

Truth as Arsenal star splits with agent to spark new twist in Rodrygo deal saga
Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard has this week split with his long-standing representative to sign with DH Sports and Entertainment Agency Leandro Trossard's split from his agent Josy Comhair is not directly linked to his uncertain Arsenal future. The Belgian winger has now signed with German-based DH Sports and Entertainment Agency, sparking speculation he's actively seeking a move away from the Emirates. However, Mirror Football understands Trossard mutually agreed to part company with long-standing representative Comhair, who is battling health problems. The separation was totally amicable even though Comhair had been leading negotiations with Arsenal over a potential contract extension. Trossard's current deal in north London runs until the summer of 2026 but it's understood Arsenal hold a one-year extension option the club can formally trigger. The 30-year-old wants to stay at Arsenal but so far, talks over fresh terms have stalled and failed to reach a positive conclusion to date. Discussions have been centred around a pay-rise and were not certain to include an extension of the length of Trossard's contract but no agreement has been reached thus far. It's understood suitable offers for Trossard may yet be considered this summer, should they land on the table because there has been no breakthrough between the parties. Arsenal are firm admirers of Real Madrid's Rodrygo and are aware the Brazilian could yet be available this summer for the right price as he has struggled for minutes at the Club World Cup under Xabi Alonso. But in order to facilitate that deal - plus the potential capture of Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and a top-class centre-forward - there might yet need to be a notable sale come the end of the window. Financially, Arsenal remain in good stead and are not currently at risk of breaching PSR regulations but they will need to ratify some departures for the sake of their future financial records if they're to continue spending notable cash. Sources have indicated there is still active Saudi Pro League interest in Trossard, who was the subject of a rejected verbal offer from Al-Ittihad last summer, and there have also been tentative enquiries from Europe, namely Italy and Turkey, in recent weeks. But at this stage, Arsenal are yet to receive any concrete proposals for the player and he still remains part of Mikel Arteta's plans for the forthcoming campaign. Trossard struck 10 goals and 10 assists in 56 appearances in all competitions last season and his availability and versatility is regarded as a huge asset at the Emirates. Comhair had represented Trossard since he broke into the senior setup at Genk but relations between the pair remain full of respect, according to sources.

James Penrice leaves Hearts training camp for AEK Athens talks
James Penrice has left the Hearts training camp in Spain for talks with AEK Athens over a move to Greece. The 26-year-old left-back is in discussions with the Greek side over a transfer worth seven figures to the Tynecastle club. Penrice joined Hearts from Livingston a year ago in a free transfer and was one of the standout players in an otherwise disappointing season for the Jambos. He made 46 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals, in the 2024/25 campaign. Hearts finished seventh in the Premiership following a turbulent season under three different managers. He is now set for a move to the Greek Super League, where he will join fellow Scottish left-back Greg Taylor, who recently signed for PAOK. AEK Athens, who finished fourth last season, are currently in the Netherlands for their pre-season training camp. Islam Chesnokov sees Hearts transfer hijack plot emerge as Russians have secret ploy to force Tynecastle U turn
Krylia Sovetov boss Magomed Adiev was coy over an attempt to snatch the man he gave an international debut to from the Jambos Krylia Sovetov are plotting to hijack Hearts ' move for Islam Chesnokov despite him already having agreed a switch to Tynecastle The Kazakhstan international has penned a pre-contract with the capital club but protracted negotiations to bring him to Edinburgh before his FC Tobol deal runs out in October are ongoing. However, ambitious top flight club Krylia Sovetov still believe they can convince Chesnokov to ditch the Jambos and sign from them instead, according to reports in Russia. The fact they are managed by Magomed Adiev - the former Kazakhstan boss who handed Chesnokov his international debut two years ago - is giving them hope that the winger will go back on his word to Hearts and rejoin his old manager. Adiev said: "Chesnokov is an interesting footballer for many teams, including us. Let's see what happens with him." The 25-year-old was advised by former Rangers star Andrei Kanchelskis to sign for Hearts and use it as a stepping stone for a move to English football or even Celtic. And new Hearts boss Derek McInnes admitted Chesnokov's arrival was out of his hands. He explained: "He's obviously signed the pre-contract. But their season runs on, so we're not fully in charge of that situation. "His team don't want to lose him at this stage of the season because they'll be at the business end of theirs. "We have a plan to deal with it, if we get him great, if we don't, we will maybe just look to bring him in in January instead. We are trying to be as patient as we can, but ideally, we'd get him in this window.'
