Bahrain to Reopen Embassy in Lebanon After 4 Years
The announcement came after a meeting between Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Bahrain's newly appointed Ambassador to Lebanon, Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, who is currently based in Syria.
During the meeting, Sayyar expressed Bahrain's support for Lebanon as it works toward recovery and rebuilding its institutions. He also emphasized Bahrain's commitment to restoring strong diplomatic ties.
Prime Minister Salam welcomed the gesture, reaffirming Lebanon's desire to rebuild trust and strengthen its relationship with Bahrain and the wider Arab world.
Bahrain had closed its embassy in Beirut in October 2021, following a major diplomatic fallout between Lebanon and several Gulf countries. The tension stemmed from comments made by Lebanon's former Information Minister, George Kordahi, who criticized the Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen. His remarks drew sharp backlash, prompting Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Kuwait to recall their ambassadors and expel Lebanese envoys.
Kordahi stepped down in December 2021 in an attempt to ease the crisis.
Now, with Bahrain's decision to re-engage, both sides appear ready to turn the page and rebuild a partnership grounded in mutual respect and regional cooperation.

Shared priorities In both meetings, His Royal Highness highlighted Bahrain's commitment to deepening ties with its strategic allies and supporting stability and progress in the region.
