Opp scared of losing minority vote bank, silent on foreign invaders in past: CM Yogi Adityanath
Adityanath was in Bahraich to attend an event, 'Vijayotsav of Maharaja Suheldev', during which he inaugurated a memorial dedicated to Maharaja Suheldev and unveiled his equestrian statue. He also questioned why national icons such as Maharaja Suheldev were not honoured earlier and no grand memorials, universities or medical colleges were named after such personalities in the past.
The CM said, 'While the BJP commemorates Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with the Statue of Unity, the SP sings praises of divisive figures such as Jinnah. When we talked about celebrating Suheldev's valour, the SP and the Congress argued over holding weddings for Ghazi Miyan. We have made it clear — glorifying invaders must end and national heroes must be honoured.'
The state government has built the memorial at a cost of around Rs 40 crore and has also established a 40-ft bronze equestrian statue of Maharaja Suheldev.
Adityanath also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 384 development projects worth Rs 1,243 crore and planted a sapling under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign.
He thanked those who discontinued events held in the name of Ghazi Miyan and also remembered Maharaja Balbhadra Singh on his birth anniversary.
The CM pointed out that Maharaja Suheldev, a millennium ago, had presented a strategic and valiant response to foreign invaders, yet never received the honour he deserved in history. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaign for development and heritage inspired our double-engine government to honour Maharaja Suheldev,' he said.
He added that Bahraich's medical college has been named after Maharaja Suheldev, as has the state university in Azamgarh. The hospital is named after Rishi Balark. 'Our main events in Bahraich will now be dedicated to Suheldev, Rishi Balark and Maa Pateshwari—not any foreign invader,' the CM said.
He said that Salar Masud, a foreign invader who marched into India with an army of around 300,000, was 'systematically stopped from Mathura to Bahraich by Maharaja Suheldev's strategic brilliance'. By the time Masud reached Chittora (the place in Bahraich where Suheldev's memorial and statue are built), half of his army had been defeated. In the decisive battle, Suheldev's 20,000-25,000 warriors eliminated around 150,000 of Masud's soldiers. Masud was captured alive.
Thanking BJP workers, the CM said, 'Your enthusiasm since morning shows that the fair must celebrate Maharaja Suheldev, not invaders such as Salar Masud.' Referring to PM Modi's 'Panch Pran' (five pledges), the CM said, 'Respecting heritage means honouring Suheldev. Freedom from colonial mindset means ending events held in the name of Masud.'
He declared that while history may have been unjust to Maharaja Suheldev, the double-engine BJP government will not allow that injustice to continue. 'He was a symbol of valour and bravery. Those who fought alongside him to protect India's land and faith from foreign invaders were also long deprived of recognition and benefits.'
The Chief Minister also announced that a grand memorial would be built in Lucknow in honour of Maharaja Bijli Pasi, who defeated foreign invaders. He recalled that four women warriors from the 1857 revolt had dealt major blows to the British forces.
The medical college and university in Jhansi have been named after Rani Laxmibai. In Budaun, a women's PAC battalion has been formed in the name of Veerangana Avantibai Lodhi, and her equestrian statue will be installed there. In Lucknow, construction is underway for a women's PAC battalion named after Veerangana Uda Devi—about 35-40% of the work has been completed, and her statue will be installed upon completion. A similar battalion is also being established in Gorakhpur in the name of Jhalkari Bai, along with a grand statue.
The CM also informed that a memorial and cultural centre is under construction in Lucknow in honour of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, which will be completed by December. He added that scholarships for SC/ST students are being arranged and would be implemented from this platform.
The Chief Minister proposed that from next year onwards, the event should be held over three days. 'This will ensure that no one can erase the legacy of national heroes such as Maharaja Suheldev from the pages of history,' he said.

"Not going to happen at all" Congress's Venugopal slams RSS over call to drop 'socialism', 'secularism'
Kannur [Kerala] (India) July 1 (ANI): Congress National General Secretary KC Venugopal has strongly criticised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) demand to amend the Constitution, particularly with regard to the words 'Secular and Socialist' stating that the country would not tolerate any attempt to tamper with these fundamental principles. 'Let them say whatever they want to say. But we would like to make it crystal clear that any attempt at change in the Constitution, and any tampering with the words 'Secular and Socialist', will not be tolerated by this nation. They can wish anything, but this is not going to happen at all...' Venugopal said on Tuesday while speaking with reporters here. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's had recently demanded reconsideration of the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. Earlier, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge alleged that the RSS wants to 'alter' the Indian Constitution. Kharge said that these are the same people who 'staged a protest when the constituent assembly debates were going on and had burned the Constitution.' Responding to Hosabale's recent remarks, the Karnataka Minister said, 'Very clearly, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in his last speech has defined anti-nationals as those who create animosity by bringing in caste, and those people who are going to impede the social, political and economic progress of the country are the real anti-national. Those people who sow the seeds of communal hatred in society are anti-national. So who's doing that right now?...' 'They want to change the words of the Constitution. They want to change the Constitution. This is the narrative they want to bring in... RSS has never been for the Constitution. These are the same bunch of people who staged a protest when the constituent assembly debates were going on. They burned the constitution and said that we want the Manusmriti as our constitution. Didn't they say that? Please ask them to read their magazine, the Organiser's archives, what they have written on the 26th of January 1950... The answer lies there itself...' he said. On being asked if Congress is thinking of banning the RSS, Kharge said, 'We will see. It's not the first time they have been banned, right? Didn't Sardar Patel ban them? Then they went and fell at his feet. They pleaded no, no, we will follow the law of the land. After that, Indira Gandhiji banned it again. They went and said No, we will cooperate. We will abide by the laws of the land. There cannot be one law of the land for the rest of the country and for one organisation like this...' On June 26, addressing a program on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, RSS General Secretary Hosabale said that during the Emergency, terms like 'Socialism' and 'Secularism' were forcibly inserted into the Constitution, a move that needs to be reconsidered today. He emphasised that the Emergency wasn't just a misuse of power, but an attempt to crush civil liberties. Millions were imprisoned, and freedom of the press was suppressed. He said that those who imposed the Emergency and trampled the Constitution and democracy have never apologised. If they cannot apologise personally, they should do so on behalf of their ancestors. Hosabale was speaking at an event held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, jointly organised by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (under the Ministry of Culture) and Ambedkar International Centre. Cabinet approves Research and Development and Innovation scheme with corpus of Rs 1 lakh crore to boost strategic, sunrise domains
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): In a significant step to bolster India's research and innovation ecosystem, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved research development and innovation (RDI) scheme with a corpus of Rs one lakh crore to scale up research, development and innovation in strategic and sunrise domains. Briefing reporters on the cabinet decisions, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw said Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme recognises the critical role that the private sector plays in driving innovation and commercialising research. The RDI Scheme aims to provide long-term financing or refinancing with long tenors at low or nil interest rates to spur private sector investment in RDI. The scheme has been designed to overcome the constraints and challenges in funding the private sector and seeks to provide growth and risk capital to sunrise and strategic sectors to facilitate innovation, promote technology adoption, and enhance competitiveness. Key objectives of the Scheme are to encourage the private sector to scale up research, development, and innovation (RDI) in sunrise domains and in other sectors relevant for economic security, strategic purpose, and self-reliance. The scheme will finance transformative projects at higher levels of Technology Readiness Levels (TRL). In addition, the project support acquisition of technologies which are critical or of high strategic importance, and facilitate setting up of a Deep-Tech Fund of Funds. An official release said that the Governing Board of Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), chaired by the Prime Minister, will provide overarching strategic direction to the RDI Scheme. The Executive Council (EC) of ANRF will approve the Scheme's guidelines, and recommend 2nd level fund managers and scope and type of projects in sunrise sectors. An Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) led by the Cabinet Secretary, will be responsible for approving scheme changes, sectors and types of projects as well as second-level fund managers besides reviewing the performance of the Scheme. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) will serve as the nodal department for implementation of RDI Scheme. The RDI Scheme will have a two-tiered funding mechanism. At the first level, there will be a Special Purpose Fund (SPF) established within the ANRF, which will act as the custodian of funds. From the SPF funds shall be allocated to a variety of second level fund managers. This will be mainly in the form of long-term concessional loans, the release said. The funding to R&D projects by the second level fund managers would normally be in the form of long-term loan at low or nil interest rates. Financing in the form of equity may also be done, especially in case of startups. Contribution to Deep-Tech Fund of Funds (FoF) or any other FoF meant for RDI may also be considered. By addressing the critical need of private sector for long-term, affordable financing, the RDI Scheme fosters self-reliance and global competitiveness, thereby facilitating a conducive innovation ecosystem for the country as it marches towards Viksit Bharat at 2047, the release said.
