I Tried Shake Shack's New Fried Pickles & Have BIG Feelings
The catch? This option will only be available throughout the summer. And let me tell you, you're going to want to get your greedy fingers all over these.
The fried pickles are made with the brand's own dill pickles (the same ones you'll find on many of its burgers) and proprietary brine, and are coated in a seasoned, fried batter, served alongside house-made Shack Ranch for dipping. The seasoning on the fried pickles might taste familiar—it's the same stuff you'll find on the Chicken Shack and is every bit as delicious when surrounding a pickle.
One of the chefs in Shake Shack's Innovation Kitchen calls them a "warm pickle explosion," and I agree, they're dill-licious. These fried pickles have all the elements that take a fried pickle from good to great. There's a tangy bite of acid, a slight hint of heat, a substantial crunch, and, of course, fresh dill pickle flavor. Not only is the flavor perfectly executed, but the outer fried breading holds up extremely well—my fried pickles never got soggy, even over the 20 minutes that I kept going back for more, even after my full stomach kept telling me to stop. The ranch sauce provides a creamy juxtaposition to the crunchiness of the pickles and only adds to the overall dish. (I say this as someone who doesn't even really like ranch!)
Now, this isn't my first foray into fried pickles. Like any New Yorker, I've paired the addictive snack with many a sports-viewing outing. I even recently got my hands on Popeyes' new fried pickles and, for that matter, its whole pickle menu. While I liked the chicken chain's version just fine, Shake Shack's takes the snack to the next level. Honestly, after what's sure to be a 10 out of 10 fan reaction, I wouldn't be surprised if (hot take incoming!) no one ever orders the fries again.
At $3.99, the fried pickles are available beginning May 20 throughout the summer. And yes, it must be said: they're kind of a big dill.

Lena Dunham's TV genius is finally back on our screens with her new Netflix rom-com Too Much. The feel-good comedy-drama stars Hacks' Megan Stalter as kooky New Yorker Jessica, who moves across the pond to London after a breakup before falling for aspiring musician Felix, played by The White Lotus' Will Sharpe. Andrew Scott If there's one actor who's guaranteed to make a splash no matter how big or small the role, it's Andrew Scott. The Sherlock star plays a divorced ad director called James Wenlich-Rice, who's hired to shoot the advert Jessica is overseeing. Unsurprisingly, he ends up having some of the best (and most cringeworthy) lines in the whole series. Andrew previously starred in Lena's 2022 movie Catherine Called Birdy, and it turns out he had a pretty big part in getting Megan cast in the first place. In an interview with Glamour, Lena revealed that the Fleabag star first introduced her to Megan's viral comedy videos and insisted they meet. '[He] basically said, 'You two have to meet, you have something to make together',' she recalled. Kit Harington Since his starring role as Jon Snow in Game Of Thrones, we've been able to watch Kit Harington demonstrate his range in projects like Eternals, The Beast Within and Industry. Now he appears in Too Much's flashback scenes as Jessica's late father, who died of Parkinson's disease when she was young. Richard E. Grant The legendary British actor isn't quite a fleeting cameo, since he plays a key role as Jessica's UK-based boss, Jonno Ratigan. In one scene he makes his employee reel off a list of problems he has with Jessica, including her pungent lunches and smelly feet. Unsurprisingly, he manages to strike a hilarious balance between personable and passive aggressive – he even gets into a physical altercation with Felix in one scene. Naomi Watts TheMulholland Drive actor appears in the series as Ann Ratigan, the posh wife of Jonno who forms an instant bond with Jessica (over a few lines of cocaine, no less). Envisioning the A-lister in a comedy role was exciting to Lena, who told The Hollywood Reporter that she wanted to write her something that was 'not an elegant lady role, that's like an elegant lady to the left role, like an elegant lady who's railing cocaine role'. Jessica Alba The Fantastic Four actor stars as herself in the first episode of Too Much, playing a client of Jessica's agency on a commercial shoot. When a misogynistic director tries to 'punch up' the script, Jessica Alba asks Too Much's Jessica (Megan Stalter) to step in and collaborate with her, before she becomes overwhelmed and runs off in a panic. Adwoa Aboah The British actor and model appears in a few scenes as Felix's recent ex Linnea. While she's proven her acting talents playing Becks in Top Boy, Lena explained that hiring models for the series was very intentional. 'And I think modelling is such an expressive art and models are very often really good actors because they have to do that,' she told Radio Times. 'What I love about Emily [Ratajkowski] and Adwoa [Aboah] is that, in addition to being models, they're so outspoken in their activism, in their writing, in their creative expression,' she added. Stephen Fry The British actor and presenter plays Felix's dad Simon in the series, who finds himself in financial hardship. He appears in episode seven – which sheds some light on Felix's upbringing – and the finale titled The Idea Of Glue. This also isn't his first collaboration with Lena, having played the writer-director's father in the 2024 tragicomedy Treasure. Rhea Perlman The Cheers and Matilda actor features as Jessica's cheeky grandmother Dottie, who does her best to offer advice on her chaotic love life. 'Lena has a way of creating and directing that makes people feel free,' the actor said in an interview with The New York Times. 'Maybe some people would be turned off by that much sex and that much talk of sex,' she continued. 'But she made it so funny and so real.' Carlos O'Connell Fans of Dublin post-punk heroes Fontaines D.C. will have instantly recognised Carlos O'Connell's pink hair in Too Much, with the guitarist appearing as Felix's bandmate Eoin. Their fictional band The Feelers actually features original music from Attawalpa, the band of Too Much co-creator and Lena's husband Luis Felber. This marks the musician's latest foray into acting, having made a cameo in Andrea Arnold's 2024 movie Bird. Don Letts Another real-life musician appears in the series in the shape of legendary British DJ Don Letts. The Big Audio Dynamite co-founder features as a club emcee called Jonah The Ox. There's also a few more details sprinkled throughout the show for real music buffs, like when Jessica's ex Zev (played by Michael Zegen) is featured wearing an Idles T-shirt in one scene. Rita Ora The Anywhere singer appears late in the series as herself to play Santa Claus in a Christmas advertising campaign, and also hypes Jessica up after her social media scandal. The pop star posted on social media that she had 'so much fun filming' in the show, which she shared alongside a picture of her with Lena. Jennifer Saunders The Absolutely Fabulous star is in episode nine's clubbing scene, appearing briefly as an older woman called Fiona who sleeps with Felix in a moment of self sabotage. Heroic NYC pups go up, up and away in adorable look-alike contest for Krypto from ‘Superman'
Every New Yorker's Kryptonite is a really cute dog. Dozens of heroic hounds soared to Hudson Yards Friday to compete in a Krypto the Superdog look-alike contest — but only one pooch took home the red cape fit for the sidekick of 'Superman.' Sofia, a 7-year-old Brooklyn canine who could have been Krypto's stunt double, easily took home the win and a $1,000 prize, but her owner said the victory didn't just come down to the pooch's good looks — she also embodies the superdog's protective spirit. Advertisement 4 Sofia won the Krypto look-alike contest after impressing judges with her facial expressions. Matthew McDermott 'She's always looking out for the other dogs, she's never starting fights, she likes to make everyone feel included,' said Meredith Amspoker, who found out about the contest hosted by Pumpkin Pet Insurance through a friend. Amspoker often gets stopped in the street while walking Sofia, but since 'Superman' came out, it's happening a lot more frequently. Not all of the 50 competing canines resembled Superman's loyal sidekick, but their doting owners weren't deterred from showing off their buddies' superhero qualities. Some pooches were even awarded for it — including little Jeffrey, who was named runner-up for the least Krypto look-alike. 4 Ed Medina and Jeffrey. 'Jeffrey keeps me happy,' said Medina, who wore a jersey with his pup's face plastered on the back, before feeding Jeffrey four treats in a row. Mallorie Sievert, a 23-year-old actress, dragged three of her friends from across Manhattan to watch the cute contest. 'Krypto is so ugly, and I love ugly dogs, and so I was like, 'I have to come and see all the crusty white dogs show up and show out,' she explained. While at college, Sievert started an Instagram account, taking pictures of dogs across campus. She's delighted that the competition included dogs that don't look like Krypto, so she was certain the plaza would be full of pooches. 'I love New York City, because where else is there going to be an event where you see 50 dogs in capes!'

The Four Horsemen Follow-Up Is as Exciting as We Hoped It Would Be
is a born-and-raised New Yorker who is an editor for Eater's Northeast region and Eater New York, was the former Eater Austin editor for 10 years, and often writes about food and pop culture. The Italian restaurant's name translates to 'little horses,' which makes for a befitting spinoff, but there's nothing small about I Cavallini. The Italian restaurant has over 60 seats in a dining room that has breathing room. The bigger kitchen allows the Four Horsemen executive chef and I Cavallini co-partner Nick Curtola, chef de cuisine Ben Zook, and the rest of the staff to expand their culinary prowess in this new playground. Getting in: I honestly was expecting to line up outside the restaurant for a walk-in, especially after the initial batch of online reservations were immediately snatched up. But during my random checking of the Resy link, I grabbed a 5 p.m. seat for two. Walking up to the restaurant a few minutes before the reservation time, there was already a short line of people awaiting walk-in spaces. A dining table at I Cavallini. Nadia Chaudhury/Eater Northeast The space: As to be expected, I Cavallini is very cool, thanks to interior designer Amy Butchko. It's a warm, bright, and elegant space framed by whitewashed brick walls in a room aligned with blond wooden tables and chairs. The back bar and the shelves above the kitchen are full of sculptures, books, and a framed photo of the Four Horsemen co-founder Justin Chearno, who died in 2024. We were seated across from a vibrant painting that I can only describe as an artist monkey in front of a canvas. Even in the bathrooms, there are painted murals, including the delightful big ol' bucket of pasta next to a trippy rock band. The food: One of the most interesting dishes I've had in a while was the nervetti and onion salad ($19). It's a beautiful, jiggly, wet pile (complimentary) of sliced and chunked beef tendons and onions, soaked in chive blossom vinegar. It's more of a charcuterie plate than a salad, and it was still a meaty wonder. Of the pastas, my shining star was the gnocchi sardi ($32). The bowl came with little Sardinian pasta, plump itty bitty shrimps, and small zolfini beans swimming in an herby buttery broth. I could have used some bread, or maybe I should have held onto the focaccia ($18, paired with a whipped ricotta and roasted cherry tomatoes) we ordered for the beginning, since I was spooning up the broth to drink on its own. Nadia Chaudhury/Eater Northeast The side of chilled cucumbers ($14) doused in colatura di alici (an Italian fish sauce) was a nice reprieve from the heat outside, but it would've been better suited in the antipasti section of the menu. The desserts: You have to judge an Italian or Italian-ish restaurant based on its tiramisu, and I'm pleased to report that the coffee-soaked dessert ($15) at I Cavallini is quite good. The plated sweet is easily shareable between two people — in ladyfinger terms, it's three pieces wide and two pieces tall, served on a plate. We also got the olive oil cake ($18), which was fine, but the side of marinated strawberries from cult-beloved Harry's Berries made it much better. A tip: add some strawberries to the tiramisu; you won't regret it. The drinks: While the Four Horsemen sticks to wine and beer, I Cavallini has a liquor license, so this means first-time cocktails from the team, led by bar director Jojo Colona. The results are playful drinks with spirits and, because it's a cool Italian joint, amaro. I started with the Pomozoni ($19), a bright Italian gin drink made with Sungold tomatoes, Dola Dira (a rhubarb-ish Italian aperitivo), lemon, and a touch of salt. It was a perfect summer cocktail that I could imagine drinking out on a patio somewhere. The Pomozoni at I Cavallini. Nadia Chaudhury/Eater Northeast For the main meal, I switched to a glass of wine from the all-Italian list, from wine director Flo Barth. Our server recommended the Tiberio Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 2024 ($18), a rosé-ish wine that was served slightly chilled, lending a lightness to a full flavor, pairing well with our pastas and seafood. To end the meal, I got the frothy fun Dolce Amaro Fizz ($21), an egg cream-like concoction made with Amaro Noveis, coffee liqueur, shaken egg yolk, cream, hazelnut, and prosecco for some bubbles. The takeaway: As my friend and I walked out of the restaurant, it was cool seeing the team (including LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy) hanging out by the bar. It was also nice seeing that the Four Horsemen was still packed across the street. On my commute home, I listened to This Is Happening for the first time in a while. The album works as a reflection on the restaurant, too: I Cavallini is finally happening. But what makes I Cavallini stand out is that the team takes what they know already works and fleshes it out in this new restaurant brimming with friendly service, a warm atmosphere, and high-quality food and drink, without being gimmicky.
