B/R: Jets duo earns 'honorable mention' in pass-rush rankings

Yahoo2 days ago
The New York Jets are entering the 2025 season with questions across their defensive line. Superstar interior defender Quinnen Williams didn't reach his performance ceiling in 2024 and is tasked with experiencing a bounce-back campaign. Meanwhile sophomore EDGE Will McDonald IV broke out of his shell by totaling 10.5 sacks. The Jets hope McDonald IV continues trending in the right direction as a third-year pro.
Bleacher Report recently ranked the top-five pass-rushing duos in the NFL. Though Williams and McDonald IV didn't make the cut, they were among the five duos that earned the "honorable mentions" nod.
"Williams has established himself as one of the best defensive tackles in the league, earning three straight Pro Bowl bids," Matt Holder wrote, acknowledging the Jets duo has already combined for 52.5 career sacks. "McDonald is still in the early stage of his career, but he enjoyed a breakout performance in 2024, logging 10.5 sacks.
"With another strong showing from the latter this season, these two will make a strong case to crack the top five next summer."

New Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is certainly relying on Williams and McDonald to spearhead his pass rush this season. Jermaine Johnson II is coming off a serious Achilles injury, and the Jets lack the desirable depth both inside and outside. Williams and McDonald hold the keys to the Jets' sack production in 2025.

Former Houston Texans LB Bryan Braman battling rare form of cancer

Former Houston Texans linebacker Bryan Braman is battling an aggressive form of "life-threatening cancer," according to a GoFundMe set up in his benefit by William Jones. Braman, who spent three seasons with the Texans from 2011-2013, has undergone multiple surgeries while being treated in Seattle, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help him with expenses. Braman was diagnosed with cancer in February, according to his longtime agent, Sean Stellato. "He is required to have a 24-hour caregiver, but his insurance doesn't pay for housing for this program," the first GoFundMe update in February read. "He has no home currently as he has had to pay out of pocket for much of his treatment, and even sold his last vehicle to raise the money for the motel [for] this week." As of Saturday morning, the page has raised more than $53,000, including three donations from Braman's former Texans teammates. Three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt donated $10,000. Pro Bowl left tackle Duane Brown donated $2,500 from Duane Brown while linebacker Brian Cushing donated $1,000. Several former Eagles teammates who have donated include Rasul Douglas, Brent Celek and Emmanuel Acho. Braman is currently undergoing treatment, which includes CAR T-cell Therapy. According to the American Cancer Society, the procedure is described as "a way to get immune cells called T cells (a type of white blood cell) to fight cancer by changing them in the lab so they can find and destroy cancer cells." "His cells did re-infuse themselves, and did in fact start reproducing within his bone marrow," the GoFundMe page wrote. "At first, the mass did start to shrink, but then the cancer started fighting back." Braman, 38, continues to fight and hopes to pull through with the support of former teammates and colleagues. "In the face of cancer, he embodies those qualities more than ever. If there is one person that I know that can beat cancer, it is Bryan Braman, who I have always considered family," Stellato told KPRC2 Sports. "He's in the fight of his life." Braman played seven seasons in the NFL from 2011 to 2017. During his three seasons with the Texans, he totaled 38 tackles and one sack.

Commanders Trade Rumor on Terry McLaurin Would Fail To Accomplish One Key Thing

Commanders Trade Rumor on Terry McLaurin Would Fail To Accomplish One Key Thing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. First, a very bottom line: Veteran wide receiver Terry McLaurin who had a spectacular season in 2024 for the Washington Commanders, is poised to do it again in 2025. Advertisement And he's poised to do it in Washington. But ... The two sides have still yet to agree on a new contract extension for the star wideout, who recorded 13 TD catches a year ago. So it has led many to speculate that the team will end up trading him. In a recent piece by Bleacher Report, a bunch of trade package ideas are pitched involving the Commanders star. One of the deals proposed would have Washington sending McLaurin to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for former first-round receiver Treylon Burks and a second-round pick in 2026. "Imagine if Terry McLaurin and Calvin Ridley were playing together,'' they say of the Titans angle. "On top of that, let's talk about Treylon Burks ... He was supposed to be the guy to replace AJ Brown that didn't exactly work out in Tennessee, but he still has enough physical talent, and enough upside that does exist in his profile to be able to buy into as a cheap option if you're the Commanders.'' Advertisement Well ... no. Jayden Daniels emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in his rookie season, and McLaurin was a big part of that. He racked up just under 1,100 yards, and finished with double-digit touchdowns for the first time in his career. Burks is not a commodity. So this idea is essentially McLaurin for a second-rounder. That's not happening ... because the Commanders can win now and need to win now - and a future pick doesn't help that cause. Washington has expressed many times that they are eventually going to agree on a new deal with the star wide receiver, as he could be a key contributor in them making a run for the Super Bowl. So, the best bet? Advertisement Unless a far better concept than this comes across Washington GM Adam Peters' desk, a McLaurin deal in D.C. is what will soon "be happening.''
