Look: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan attend 'Superman' premiere

Superman stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan were among the cast members to attend the Los Angeles premiere of the film, which arrives in theaters Friday.
The event took place at the TCL Chinese Theatre on Monday.
Corenswet, 31, who portrays the iconic Clark Kent in the feature, wore a pinstriped suit to the premiere.
Brosnahan, 34, arrived in a dark blue sequined gown with cutouts. She plays Lois Lane in the film.
Other cast members in attendance included Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner, aka Green Lantern), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl) and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), along with Superman director James Gunn.
Christopher McDonald, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Mikaela Hoover, Anthony Carrigan, Beck Bennett, Alan Tudyk and Maria Gabriela De Faria also walked the red carpet.
In a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Hoult talked about meeting Corenswet while auditioning for the role of Superman. Hoult was ultimately cast as Lex Luthor.
"Look at his hair, look at his jawline," Hoult said. "... Whilst we were shaking hands, I was like, 'I'd be happy if this guy was Superman.' I was like, 'You're perfect for it. Really, genuinely.'"
Corenswet is set to read a children's story on CBeebies Bedtime Stories Friday.

I actually love ‘Superman' — but I have 3 big issues we need to talk about
Let me start with a confession. I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with Superman. Every single time "Man of Steel" comes on TV, I just drop what I'm doing and start watching. My kids recently got me a framed illustration of myself as Superman that hangs in my home office. And when it came time to watch "Superman" in theaters on opening day, I wore a Superman T-shirt with the new logo along with my daughter. And I felt more proud than embarrassed. So when I say I have some issues with the new "Superman" movie, you should know that it's coming from a place of love. Overall, I really enjoyed the film, and especially liked the heartfelt performance from David Corenswet. His Superman is a bit self-righteous and impetuous in this first installment from James Gunn, but there's a warmth and self-doubt in the character that I appreciate. I also liked Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi) as a reluctant hero who manages to steal the show during the most thrilling action scene in the film, and overall, there's some welcome levity to balance the intense action and some impressive special effects. But I also have some issues with "Superman" that I need to get off my chest, and I'd like to know what you think. I will warn you that there are some spoilers ahead, so if you haven't watched yet, be warned! Listen, I get that the Fortress of Solitude is fairly secure in that it disappears into the frickin' ice when Superman isn't home. Plus, you need to have Kal-El's DNA to unlock the door. But how could Superman not plan for the very remote possibility that someone could break in? This movie is supposedly set in 2025. Do security cameras not exist in the DC universe? And once Lex Luthor, Ultraman and The Engineer enter the premises and start wreaking havoc, I had questions: 1. Why can't the robots contact Superman in some way? A beeper? Something! 2. Why is there not a protocol in place to self-destruct or at least render the data that villains might want to steal useless? Instead, Superman figures out his Fortress has been violated only after a video of his parents' private message to him airs on TV. It's time for some upgrades, people. Here's a head scratcher. As Superman is taken away as a prisoner into a pocket dimension, Lex brags about his army of literal monkeys that are posting misinformation and hatred about Superman. It's a mildly humorous scene seeing all of these monkeys typing away, but why does Lex need them? We're talking about a super genius who has managed to create a pocket dimension, forge a clone of Superman and use an AI algorithm to anticipate Superman's fight moves and beat him in battle. But he's not smart enough to create an AI program to trash-talk Superman on social media? Maybe he just likes having lots of pets as slaves. In the film, Jimmy tries to convince Lex's girlfriend, Eve Teschmacher, to supply evidence that would implicate Lex in his plan to help Boravia invade a neighboring country. Eve says she's willing to give him that evidence, but only if Jimmy is willing to spend an entire weekend with her, as she has a crush on Olsen. But then Jimmy does the unthinkable. With Superman currently abducted and the fate of the world in the balance, he actually ponders this decision. Now, this 'dilemma' did generate some nervous laughter in the theater (and I was one of those laughing), but this is one of those times where you don't think about it and take one for the team. At least Jimmy ultimately does the right thing. Ultimately, I really liked "Superman" and I think it sets the stage for a fun new DC universe. But I found a few flaws with the film. Let me know if you agree or not. Now I'm going to go watch "Man of Steel" again until 'Superman' comes out on streaming.

Who Sings 'Punkrocker?' That 'Superman' Ending Song, Explained
In one early scene in Superman, Clark Kent (David Corenswet) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) argue about what makes a person truly punk rock. Is it liking the right bands, or is it doing something that nobody else will dare to do? Clark asserts that he is actually punk rock because caring and being a good person are punk rock qualities. And so, at the end of the movie, Superman revels in his goofy niceness as the 2006 song "Punkrocker" plays over the end credits. If you missed this song, it comes from the Swedish band Teddybears, who are an electronic post-punk band that has been making music since 1991. The version of "Punkrocker" that plays at the end of Superman is actually Teddybears' second version of the song and features true punk legend Iggy Pop on lead first version of the song was on the Teddybears 2000 album Rock'n'Roll Highschool. But the 2006 version, which they re-recorded with Pop's vocal track, is on their better-known album, Soft Machine. Not truly a punk song at all, the dancey, upbeat "Punkrocker" is one of those great anthems that often appeared on mix CDs in the mid-aughts. If David Corenswet's Superman is meant to represent a younger version of the character, then, in a sense, "Punkrocker" is a throwback track. 'Superman' Star Has Unusual Approach to Watching 'Star Wars' Movies
The star of the new Superman movie, David Corenswet, recently revealed that he's a big Star Wars fan, and so much so that he would prefer to take on the role of a Jedi over a role in a sequel to Superman. Corenswet took part in Vanity Fair's Lie Detector Test interview along with co-star Nicholas Hoult and was asked if he would rather do a Superman sequel or play as a Jedi Knight in a Star Wars film. Corenswet, who also admitted he has a tradition of taking part in a Star Wars marathon every New Year's Eve, showed his true allegiance by choosing the latter. The Superman star has also revealed he has an unorthodox approach for watching the Star Wars films, at least when it comes to introducing them to people who haven't watched the movies before. Corenswet doesn't recommend watching them in order. Instead, here's his preferred method, according to Brittany Broski's Royal Court. 1. A New Hope 2. The Empire Strikes Back 3. The Phantom Menace 4. Attack of the Clones 5. Revenge of the Sith 6. Return of the Jedi This is nearly the famed "Machete Order" (The Phantom Menace is not included in that order) for watching Star Wars movies, which further cements how big of a fan Corenswet is. Corenswet went on to explain the reasoning behind his preferred lineup. "You preserve the twist of — spoiler alert — Darth Vader is his father… and then you watch One through Three as a flashback essentially," Corenswet said. "And then Six, it's not as strong as Four and Five as a film, but it's a great culmination to the whole thing. It brings it all together. The stakes are bigger if you've seen One through Three, it feels more like a saga." While that lineup might feel odd to some, Corenswet's explanation for it is a strong one.
