Melaka needs RM25mil to resolve street lighting problem
State Public Works, Infrastructure, Public Facilities and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer said the allocation received this year was only RM3.5mil, involving RM3mil from the federal government and RM500,000 from the state government.
"The amount is still a long way from solving the street lighting problem on state roads, as it does not include village roads," he told the State Assembly here on Tuesday (April 29).
He was responding to a question by Tuminah Kadi@Mohd Hashim (BN-Pantai Kundor) on the allocation for street lighting.
Hameed said Melaka also received RM1.7mil under the Malaysian Road Records Information (Marris) for the installation of street lighting in village areas this year, with the Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah, and Jasin districts each receiving RM500,000, and RM200,000 allocated to the State Public Works Department. – Bernama

North-South Expressway southern corridor widening project to begin on July 28, PLUS assures no traffic disruption
JOHOR BARU, July 4 — PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) in a statement today said the additional lane construction project on the North-South Expressway's (NSE) southern corridor involving the widening of the number of lanes from two to three for the Sedenak to Simpang Renggam route (Phase Two), over a distance of 17 kilometres, is expected to commence on July 28. It said the implementation period for the works will take 36 months, with the contract for the additional lane construction project awarded to a local contractor after undergoing an open tender process. 'However, when the preliminary work on this route is carried out, it will not disrupt the flow of traffic because the two existing lanes in both directions of the affected highway will remain open to all vehicles,' said the statement. According to the highway operator company, the project is being implemented in phases, starting with Phase One (Senai Utara to Sedenak), followed by Phase Two (Sedenak to Simpang Renggam) and Phase Three (Simpang Renggam to Machap). The statement also said that the NSE widening project on the Kulai to Sedenak route (Phase One Package A), which began in July last year, is reported to be progressing smoothly according to schedule, while preliminary works for the Kulai to Senai Utara route (Phase One Package B) have also begun on site. 'The high-impact project is expected to benefit nearly 90,000 daily highway users and is hoped to act as a catalyst for more vibrant socio-economic development in the surrounding areas such as Sedenak, Kulai, Senai, Iskandar Malaysia and Pagoh,' according to PLUS. This effort is a government initiative to address the congestion on the NSE in the southern corridor, which often occurs during peak hours, and is aimed at providing a smoother journey for highway users in the future. Selangor govt to brief law makers on Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion this Monday
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has scheduled a briefing this Monday for members of Parliament and state assembly representatives to explain the gas pipeline explosion incident in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision to hold the special briefing, which will be open to both government and opposition lawmakers, was made during a pre-council meeting with state assembly members yesterday. "I have also requested the State Assembly Speaker to allow the state government to provide an explanation during the upcoming Selangor State Assembly session. "The state government upholds the principles of responsibility, transparency and accountability, and fully honours the trust and mandate of the people," he said in a Facebook post today. The Second Meeting of the Third Session of the Fifteenth Selangor Legislative Assembly is scheduled to take place from July 7 to 18. On June 30, Selangor police stated at a special press conference that there was no element of mischief, sabotage or negligence identified that could have caused the gas pipeline damage and explosion in Putra Heights on April 1. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the conclusion was based on the findings of a technical investigation carried out following the underground gas pipeline explosion. In response to the report, the state government formed a special committee to examine the investigation in full and recommend any necessary follow-up action.
