North-South Expressway southern corridor widening project to begin on July 28, PLUS assures no traffic disruption
It said the implementation period for the works will take 36 months, with the contract for the additional lane construction project awarded to a local contractor after undergoing an open tender process.
'However, when the preliminary work on this route is carried out, it will not disrupt the flow of traffic because the two existing lanes in both directions of the affected highway will remain open to all vehicles,' said the statement.
According to the highway operator company, the project is being implemented in phases, starting with Phase One (Senai Utara to Sedenak), followed by Phase Two (Sedenak to Simpang Renggam) and Phase Three (Simpang Renggam to Machap).
The statement also said that the NSE widening project on the Kulai to Sedenak route (Phase One Package A), which began in July last year, is reported to be progressing smoothly according to schedule, while preliminary works for the Kulai to Senai Utara route (Phase One Package B) have also begun on site.
'The high-impact project is expected to benefit nearly 90,000 daily highway users and is hoped to act as a catalyst for more vibrant socio-economic development in the surrounding areas such as Sedenak, Kulai, Senai, Iskandar Malaysia and Pagoh,' according to PLUS.
This effort is a government initiative to address the congestion on the NSE in the southern corridor, which often occurs during peak hours, and is aimed at providing a smoother journey for highway users in the future. Overall, PLUS said that the construction of this additional lane project is for the people's welfare and the economic development of the country. — Bernama

The aircraft carrying Anwar and his delegation landed at the Galeão Air Force Base (BAGL) at 5.41am local time (4.41pm Malaysian time) after a 12-hour flight from Paris where the premier completed his two-day official visit. Anwar was received by Acting Head of Mission of the Malaysian embassy in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, Datuk Mohammad Ali Selamat; Secretary of Trade Promotion, Science, Technology, Innovation and Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Laudemar Gonçalves de Aguiar Neto, and other Brazilian officials. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, is here at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Mohe instructs universities to assess SST expansion's impact on students amid concerns of rising costs
SUNGAI PETANI, July 5 — The Ministry of Higher Education (Mohe) has instructed university vice-chancellors to conduct a detailed study to assess the impact of the expanded scope of the Sales and Services Tax (SST) on their students. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said the objective of the study is to determine whether the SST expansion, which came into effect on July 1, has directly or indirectly contributed to higher learning costs. 'We will examine in detail what is meant by the alleged increase in costs. What has been announced by the government relates to higher fees for international students coming to study in Malaysia due to increased tariffs or taxes on their education,' he said. 'We've already communicated this matter and gathered feedback. However, there may be other elements, either directly or indirectly, affecting local students as well,' said Zambry, who is also Barisan Nasional secretary-general and Umno Supreme Council member, to reporters after officiating the Umno Merbok Division meeting here today. Expanding on the matter, Zambry said the study would cover all aspects related to student learning, including utility costs such as electricity for those living in rental housing. Previously, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Student Representative Council president Mohamad Amar Aidid Mohd Zain was reported as saying that the expanded scope of SST, effective since Tuesday, was believed to have financial implications for students. According to Mohamad Amar Aidid, the inclusion of digital subscriptions, electronic repairs, laundry services and online purchases under the SST has had a direct impact on students' cost of living. Meanwhile, Zambry said the Malaysian Higher Education Blueprint 2025–2035, developed by the ministry, has been finalised and is expected to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this November.
