‘Big Bang Theory' Spinoff ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' a Go at HBO Max

Yahoo4 days ago
In keeping with the scientific concept that is its namesake, the universe of The Big Bang Theory keeps expanding.
HBO Max has formally greenlit Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a comedy that will center on comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), who had a heavily recurring role on the original CBS series. The show comes from Big Bang Theory co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and Zak Penn (Free Guy, Beacon 23) — and unlike the original series and its other spinoffs, Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, it will feature a heavy dose of sci-fi alongside its comedy.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is the first series pickup for the newly re-renamed HBO Max, whose changeover from Max went live on Wednesday.
'We're excited to be continuing the legacy of The Big Bang Theory,' said Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content. 'Much like the original series, this new chapter wouldn't be possible without the vision and storytelling brilliance of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, as well as Zak Penn, who has brought fresh insight and a distinctive voice to an already exceptional creative team.'
Said Lorre, 'I wanted to do something radical that would take me out of my comfort zone. Something the characters on The Big Bang Theory would have loved, hated, and argued about.'
Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie — all of whom recurred on Big Bang — will also star in the series, which has been in the works for two years. The show's description reads, 'Stuart Bloom is tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise (Lapkus), geologist friend Bert (Posehn), and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke (Bowie). Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we've come to know and love from The Big Bang Theory. As the title implies, things don't go well.'
'The process of writing this show with Chuck and Zak has been damn fun, and I'm certain that joy will come through the screen,' said Prady. 'Putting characters we loved from The Big Bang Theory into a complex science fiction story with the kind of mythology that those characters love while maintaining the comedic elements is incredibly satisfying.'
Added Penn, 'I was on a vision quest in the most remote parts of the Amazon rainforest when a carrier pigeon arrived with a note from Chuck Lorre asking if I wanted to help make a show that the characters from Big Bang Theory would watch. I couldn't resist that idea, so I packed up my yurt and hailed the next dirigible out. At the same time, Chuck sent an expedition to locate Bill Prady, who had been frozen with his shield across his chest in a block of arctic ice. The team assembled, we set out to make this insane show, which lives in a universe created by Chuck and Bill. I couldn't be more honored to be working with these amazing people.'
Lorre, Prady and Penn executive produce Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Lorre's eponymous production company produces in association with Warner Bros. TV, his long-time studio home.
'Chuck and Bill have given us one of the most enduring comedies of our time with The Big Bang Theory, and we can't wait to see the universe continue with this new series,' said Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD U.S. Networks. 'With the help of Zak — a masterful storyteller — this next iteration promises to capture the essence of what fans loved about the original series, but with a completely fresh twist. We thank our partners HBO Max for joining us on this next adventure.'

Hacked Elmo X Account Shares Antisemitic Posts, Calls Trump Netanyahu's ‘Puppet'

The X account belonging to Sesame Street character Elmo was hacked on Sunday, resulting in a series of antisemitic posts that included violent threats against Jewish people. The six now-deleted posts called on the muppet's followers to 'kill all Jews' and declared that Donald Trump is the 'puppet' of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because 'he is in the Epstein files.' Another post called on Trump to 'release the files' and called him a 'child fucker.' A spokeswoman for Sesame Workshop confirmed that the account was hacked. 'Elmo's X account was compromised today by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts,' she said in a statement to press. 'We are working to restore full control of the account.' By Monday morning, the hacked posts had been deleted from Elmo's X account, which has more than 647,000 followers. No new posts have been added to the account since. Elmo is known for sharing messages of love and kindness on his social media, often in a way that encourages fans to be part of the conversation. In May, Netflix announced that Sesame Street would join the streaming service following the expiration of its contract with Warner Bros. Discovery, which began in 2016 when new episodes went into production at HBO after the Public Broadcasting Service, or PBS, could no longer afford the expenses required to keep the series afloat. At HBO, new Sesame Street episodes would premiere nine months before they would air on PBS. Netflix plans to close the gap with its same-day release schedule beginning with Season 56. The uncertain fate of the beloved children's series reached a depressing turning point before the Netflix announcement when an unofficial LinkedIn post claimed that Elmo had lost his job. 'Hi LinkedIn, unfortunately Elmo was recently laid off because of the federal budget cuts,' the post read. 'Elmo worked at Sesame Street for 45 years. Elmo is sad. All Upcoming DCU Movies & Shows Set up By Superman

James Gunn has launched the DCU reboot with (2025), marking a fresh start for DC's cinematic universe. The upcoming DCU movie slate includes Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Authority, and shows like Peacemaker Season 2 and Lanterns. Unlike previous DC attempts, Gunn's new era of DCU storytelling includes unified continuity that spans films, TV, animation, and more. Fans speculate that the rebooted universe could restore DC's golden era of superhero entertainment. David Corenswet's Superman features DCU superhero cameos, sparking fan theories about upcoming DCU movies. Here's what's coming in the franchise's next era over the following years. John Cena (who also makes a cameo in Superman) will return with Peacemaker Season 2 on August 21 on Max. Gunn has previously hinted that Season 2 of the series might feature several cameos. In an interview with EW, the auteur also hinted that both Superman and Peacemaker will play pivotal roles in leading to the 'bigger story.' Season 2 of Peacemaker will feature Frank Grillo returning as Rick Flag Sr. Superman viewers have already gotten a sneak peek at the rambunctious dynamic between Supergirl (Milly Alcock) and Krypto. The chaotic duo will return in the 2026 film, which is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira. The movie promises to be a lighthearted adventure for Supergirl, who travels across the galaxy with her adorable dog, Krypto, to celebrate her 21st birthday. However, while visiting different planets, she encounters Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley). That meeting leads to Supergirl's new 'murderous quest for revenge.' Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), the broody superhero, will be back in Lanterns, releasing in 2026. The upcoming Max series will feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Gunn describes it as a 'True Detective-style mystery' where cosmic mythology and Earth-based investigation will blend into a compelling story. Reportedly, Gardner will not play the lead role. (Source: The Wrap) Lex Luthor's powerful henchwoman, 'The Engineer,' will return in The Authority. Previously, Gunn teased, 'The Authority is a very different kind of superhero story. They are basically good-intentioned, but they think that the world is completely broken and the only way to fix it is to take things into their own hands.' (via Deadline) DC and Warner Bros. have previously announced a short film series based on Superman's foster dog, Krypto, who belongs to Supergirl. The short series will be 'fun and goofy,' Gunn revealed at the February 21 DC Studios press event. Like Lanterns, another DCU project, Waller, is also in development. The upcoming project focuses on Waller navigating fallout from Creature Commandos and Superman as her authority weakens amid rising metahuman activity and alien incursions. Some other movies and shows from the DCU that fans expect to see in the future include Justice League, Mr. Terrific, and Jimmy Olsen. Corenswet's Superman has introduced the Justice Gang, which includes Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner's Green Lantern. Later, Metamorpho joins the team as they fight in the Boravia-Jarhanpur conflict. With enough hype around the 'Justice Gang,' DC fans are certain that a new Justice League is in the making.
