Michelle Obama revealed a parenting move that her husband, Barack Obama, disagreed with during a recent episode of her podcast IMO With Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson.
Newsweek reached out to Barack Obama's representative via email for comment.
The Context
Barack Obama, 63, was the 44th President of the United States from 2009 until 2017. He and Michelle Obama, 61, wed in 1992 and welcomed daughters Malia Obama, 26, in 1998 and Sasha Obama, 23, in 2001. The family lived at the White House throughout his presidency.
In March, Michelle Obama announced her new podcast with her older brother, Craig Robinson. At the time, the former first lady wrote via Instagram: "Every week, Craig and I will be joined by a special guest as we try to grapple with life's biggest questions."

What To Know
On the newest episode of IMO, which was released on Wednesday, Michelle Obama and Robinson spoke with soccer star Abby Wambach and her wife, author Glennon Doyle, about the difficulties of parenting.
"Sometimes, I did overkill on the parenting of trying to be normal," Michelle Obama told listeners, before sharing that she once punished Malia Obama for "a whole semester," which Barack Obama questioned.
"It was too much, right?" she polled her guests.
"That's a lot," Wambach said. "Did she do something—like, did she murder a human?"
"No, she didn't murder a human. She did teenage stuff," Michelle Obama said. "But, you know, every time something happened and they're teenagers in the White House, I'm thinking, 'oh my God, this is a sign, they're going to be on the street; they're going to be addicts; and this is really going to mess them up.'"
The attorney added that she "put down the hammer," though it didn't initially start out as a full semester.
"First, it was a month, and then I let her off, and then she didn't make curfew or did something like that."
Michelle Obama noted that she would have "lectures" prepared, but Malia knew exactly what to say. "She understood how to just look me in the eye and go, 'You're right, mom. I don't know what got into me. You're so right.'"
The mom of two felt like she was being "punked," which is why the punishment was extended.
"Barack, he's trying to be the president but also trying to be a good parent, and he's, like, 'Yeah, whatever your mom says,' although he's looking at me, like, 'A semester?!' I was like, 'I said a semester, and I cannot go back on it.'"
Later on in the podcast, Michelle Obama said she "was wrong."
"That was too long. It didn't work, it didn't have the desired effect, but I was learning is my point."
The Chicago native added that she was in a "strange position" where she "didn't have any role models" of people with kids in high school in the White House whose father was the first Black president.
"I was kind of flying blind on this," Michelle added.
Much to the annoyance of Malia, however, Michelle said she went easier on Sasha, who was "rarely on punishment" because she learned from her mistakes.
"The broader point is that sometimes our guilt, our issues, get in the way of our parenting."

Drake Topless Selfie Fuels Fake Abs Speculation

If you've kept up with Drake over the years, you might be aware of a long-running rumor that he underwent cosmetic surgery to get a 6-pack. In 2019, Drake hit back at a comment from DJ Carnage — with whom he was close friends — that mentioned his alleged plastic surgery. Carnage wrote, 'You got fake ab surgery in Colombia. You ain't fooling anybody,' to which Drake replied, 'Is this cause you are angry about the one thing that happened with that one person the other day that you thought was your wifey?' Fast forward to just last year, and the speculation around Drake's abs reached new heights after Kendrick Lamar released a very pointed lyric on his scathing track 'euphoria' amid their memorable feud. He rapped, 'Let your core audience stomach that, then tell 'em where you get your abs from.' Fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion also appeared to fuel the speculation on her 2024 track 'HISS.' She rapped, 'All these lil' rap n*ggas so fraud … These n*ggas hate on BBLs and be walkin' 'round with the same scars,' which some fans interpreted as a diss towards Drake, who rapped in 2022: 'This bitch lie 'bout gettin' shots, but she still a stallion.' Several people guessed that Drake was accusing Megan of lying about being shot by Tory Lanez, which you can read more about here, though some questioned if he was also accusing her of lying about getting cosmetic injections. It's worth highlighting that amid all the rumors, there is no proof that Drake has undergone cosmetic surgery. But with that in mind, a recent shirtless selfie from the rapper has fueled speculation that his abs are 'fake.' On Sunday, Drake shared this selfie as part of an Instagram carousel: And the comments didn't hold back. 'Ordered abs from temu n forgot to add shoulders n tri lol,' read one comment with over 18,000 likes. Another said, 'No shoulders, no biceps, deflated chest but extremely defined abs lmao.' Meanwhile, users of Reddit were equally perplexed. 'The level of definition in his abs makes absolutely no sense with the rest of his body,' one person wrote. Another quipped, 'It's giving 'novelty apron.'' Well then! Let me know what you think down below.

Jury Deadlocked on Racketeering in Diddy Trial, Deliberations Continue: Watch Live

Jury deliberations in the high-profile federal trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs entered their third day Wednesday after jurors reached a partial verdict on four of five criminal counts. The panel told U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian they remain deadlocked on the most serious charge—racketeering conspiracy—citing "unpersuadable opinions" among jurors. Combs, who has denied all allegations, faces life in prison if convicted on that count. The trial, which has drawn national attention, centers on allegations of sex trafficking, coercion, and abuse spanning two decades. The jury's inability to reach a unanimous decision on the racketeering charge raises the possibility of a mistrial on that count, though deliberations continue. What to Know: Combs faces five federal charges: one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The jury has reached consensus on four charges but remains split on the racketeering count, which requires proof of at least two predicate crimes under the RICO Act. Witnesses included singer Cassie Ventura and rapper Kid Cudi. Jurors requested transcripts of Ventura's testimony describing alleged assaults and threats by Combs. Jurors sent multiple notes to the judge, including questions about drug distribution and specific incidents involving Combs. No Allen charge has been issued yet. A conviction on the racketeering charge could result in a life sentence. The other charges carry significant prison terms, including a 15-year minimum for sex trafficking. Woman Rescues Kitten Thrown Out of Car in Garbage Bag, Then Comes a Twist

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. A woman who saved a kitten tossed out of a car window in a trash bag had no idea what would happen next. Melody Parson (@melodyandjiggy), 29, was working at an animal hospital in November 2019 and received a FaceTime call from a good friend and coworker. Traffic had come to a stop on the interstate because someone had thrown a kitten onto the road. The kitten, now named Jiggy, was seizing and bleeding from the nose. "Delilah asked if she could bring her to our hospital and if I'd pay for the care. Our hospital was pretty strict about not doing any good samaritan services, but Delilah knew I'd help any cat in need. "She brought Jiggy over and it was love at first sight. I knew she was going to be mine forever. The doctor told me to keep a close eye on her because she might not make it through the night. Jiggy surprised everyone by surviving as long as she has despite all her ailments," she told Newsweek. A split image showing Jiggy the cat perched on the floor. A split image showing Jiggy the cat perched on the floor. melodyandjiggy/melodyandjiggy Indeed, Jiggy, as the kitten came to be known, beat the odds that night and every day since. A video shared to Instagram by Parson revealed that after Jiggy's surprise arrival into her life, would come yet another twist: the kitten never grew in size due to dwarfism. "I didn't know it yet but the kitten I rescued after she was thrown out of a car in a garbage bag was going to stay this size forever," the overlay text reads on the post which had received over 114,000 likes at the time of writing. Now five years old, Jiggy's birthday is celebrated on Halloween—chosen for fun, since she was rescued in early November. "Her pint sized body packs a terrible diva attitude," Parson added. Jiggy is known to yell to be let under the covers for a cuddle and growls at her feline sisters if they even look in her direction. "Everyone loves hearing her crispy little meows," she said. Jiggy's development was different from the start. She didn't run or jump like a typical kitten, instead shimmying around. At four months old, she was significantly underweight and missing teeth, prompting a neurologist consult. The theory was that the trauma from being thrown from a moving car impacted her pituitary gland, stunting her growth. Because Jiggy reacted poorly to anesthesia during her spay, doctors avoided further procedures like an MRI. Despite the lack of neurological symptoms beyond her small size and mobility issues, her condition has required careful monitoring. "She's never been able to jump like a normal cat, and she never will," her owner explained, noting that ramps and stairs help Jiggy stay mobile. She's also had arthritis since the age of one and receives injections and supplements for the pain. Her dwarfism caused a kidney deformity, and she's been in kidney failure for most of her life. "This is especially hard to deal with since she has a disdain for wet food," she said. Despite that, her kidney values are monitored closely and have steadily improved with a special diet and treatment. "I truly believe that Jiggy and I share a special bond," she said. "Sometimes I think that our love keeps her alive despite all odds being stacked against her. I am so grateful for all of the time I've gotten to share with her, and I hope we can have many more years together." Support for Jiggy poured in from Instagram followers. "I'm so glad baby Jiggy is with someone who loves her as much as she loves you," one commenter wrote. Another added, "She's so lucky to have you. Whoever did that to her has no heart or soul to say the least. She's the most precious baby to walk the planet." Another user summed it up: "How anyone could do that to any animal is beyond me. It makes me so upset. I'm happy miss Jiggy found you." Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
