Telangana CM promises 3,000 electrical buses to Hyderabad in one year

The Hindu15 hours ago

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy alleged that the Central government was showing a discriminatory attitude towards Hyderabad, and sought to know why the Metro Rail Phase-II, Musi riverfront development project and the regional ring road are not being sanctioned.
Speaking after inaugurating the third-level flyover over Gachibowli Junction connecting ORR and Kondapur on Saturday, Mr. Revanth Reddy said: 'Telangana had given eight MP seats to BJP, but got nothing in return. Even small cities are expanding their metro rail networks, but Hyderabad Metro Rail has slipped from second place to ninth, due to apathy of the Centre.'
Mr. Revanth Reddy, showered praise on late Congress party leader P. Janardhan Reddy after whom the flyover was named. He said it was owing to Mr. Janardhan Reddy's efforts that the city has got drinking water from Krishna and Godavari rivers. He was always accessible to the people, and was a saviour for poor people.
Speaking of the Kancha Gachibowli land issue which has reached the Supreme Court, he claimed that the controversy was raked up by BRS, using false propaganda. He exuded confidence that the government would be able to cross all the obstacles and develop the area, through establishment of new companies and creating five lakh jobs. Reaffirming his commitment to environment protection, Mr. Revanth Reddy said 3,000 electrical buses will be introduced to the city within the coming one year, and the diesel buses will be deployed outside the city. He also advised the autorickshaw owners to shift to CNG or electrical autos, and promised tax waivers for the electrical vehicles. He stressed the need to protect Hyderabad from becoming another Delhi. He reiterated his commitment to create Future City as the Net Zero city. He hinted at the possibility of Serilingampally being divided into four constituencies in the delimitation exercise due in 2029.
Focussing his initiative to prevent encroachment of lakes and drains, through the establishment of Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), Mr. Revanth Reddy commended movie actor Akkineni Nagarjuna as the 'real hero', as he admitted to the encroachment of Thammidikunta lake by the N-Convention and handed over two acres of the FTL land back to the government.

Criminal cases will be registered against Mathavallis: Abdul Aziz

Nellore: WaQF Board Chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz reaffirmed the coalition government's commitment to protecting Waqf Board properties, warning that criminal cases will be filed against board members (Mutawallis) found responsible for illegally selling Waqf properties. Speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada on Saturday, Aziz announced that an ongoing inquiry into the sale of Waqf properties will lead to strict action against guilty members. 'Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is resolute about safeguarding Waqf properties, and there will be no compromise,' he stated. Aziz highlighted that the Central government halted funding to the Waqf Board due to the previous YSRCP government's failure to submit utilisation certificates for Rs 386 crore. He noted that the issue has been raised with Chief Minister Naidu, who is addressing it with the Central government. The Chairman announced the formation of a Rent Review Committee (RRC) to manage rents from approximately 1,300 Waqf Board shops. To address issues like property sales and rent disputes, future Waqf Board meetings will be held across all districts, moving away from the earlier practice of convening only in Vijayawada. Aziz also revealed that the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) applied to establish an MSME Park at Mallayapalem village in Guntur mandal. The Waqf Board decided to lease the land long-term to APIIC instead of permanently transferring it. Additionally, Rs 1.5 crore has been allocated for the development of Barashahid Dargah in Vijayawada, with further funds designated for the development of Kasumur and AS Pet Dargahs. Waqf Board Director SK Nasir stated that rental income will support the education of underprivileged Muslim students, their marriages, and the state government's P-4 initiative.

Cong workers gather in front of BJP office to protest, taken into custody

Bengaluru: SeveralCongress workers were taken into preventive custody on Saturday when they gathered outside the BJP headquarters here to protest against insulting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the name of events condemning the Emergency. As soon as the Congress workers assembled outside the BJP headquarters in Malleswaram, they were removed from the spot and taken in police vans. At least 20 of them were taken into preventive custody, a senior police officer said. The protest comes just days after an FIR was registered against the Karnataka BJP's social media handle over an alleged post put up by the party comparing Indira Gandhi to Adolf Hitler. The action was taken based on a complaint lodged by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary S Manohar at High Grounds police station on June 25, police said. In the complaint, Manohar had alleged that the post that was put up by the BJP's official 'X' account (@BJP4Karnataka) at 3:54 pm on Wednesday captioned 'INDIRA NOT EQUALS INDIA, INDIRA = HITLER' was accompanied by a 38-second video related to the Emergency period in India.

Bengal BJP president spends night at police headquarters protesting his alleged illegal detention

Kolkata, June 29 (UNI) After refusing release on a bail bond, West Bengal BJP President, and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar along with several BJP state level leaders walked out of Lalbazar—the Kolkata Police headquarters—on Sunday morning, a day after being detained for allegedly leading a protest against the reported rape of a law student at South Kolkata Law College on Wednesday. 'Acting on the orders of a despotic Chief Minister, these subservient police forces had us arrested in a completely unlawful and undemocratic manner. All through last night, they repeatedly pressured us to sign bail bonds. We outright refused. We made it clear: we will not sign a single paper - if they have the courage, let them take us to court,' Majumdar told the media after getting out of the police headquarters. 'But shockingly, the same police that arrested us with such aggression turned around and insisted we leave the lock-up without signing anything! No paperwork, no bail. What exactly was the reason for our arrest?' he added. 'On what legal grounds were we forcibly arrested and dragged to Lalbazar? Yesterday afternoon, during the police crackdown, many of our Karyakartas were brutally assaulted and injured. Through the night, there was no proper arrangement for medical aid, not even clean drinking water. They had to fight for the bare minimum, even in custody,' Majudar asked after he walked out of Lalbazar at 6.30 am in the morning. Majumdar was detained on Saturday evening after a BJP protest march led by the party's union minister of state for North East was intercepted by police as it moved towards the college campus, prompting chaos when BJP workers clashed with the police and dismantled barricades despite a heavy security presence. However, Majumdar refused to sign the bail bond and stayed in Lalbazar the whole night. In an audio message from the police headquarters, the BJP state president said, 'This month alone, I have been dragged unlawfully to Lalbazar Central Lock-up multiple times. Today, once again, I along with our several respected BJP leaders and Karyakartas have been forcibly arrested and thrown into a prison van wrongfully. I have already made it clear: I will not leave on personal bail. I remain here at Lalbazar, standing firm with our fearless Karyakartas.' 'We demand an immediate end to this chaos. We strongly condemn the horrific violence and abuse being inflicted on women across Bengal. We will not let the dignity of our mothers and sisters be violated - that is our solemn vow,' he added. However, Majumdar said that the BJP would continue its protest movement across the state throughout the day and escalate it further in the coming days. 'There will be torch rallies by BJP women across the state, and our workers and leaders will continue protests and gherao demonstrations in front of all police stations and SP offices throughout the day. If the police arrest us, we will refuse release on personal bail bonds and choose to remain in jail—we also want to see how much space they have in their prisons,' he added. The political mercury in the state surged after a law student filed a complaint at Kasba police station, alleging that a former student and an employee of South Kolkata Law College—affiliated with the ruling Trinamool Congress—along with two other students, gang-raped her in the security guard's room on the college premises. In response, Kolkata Police formed a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Pradip Kumar Ghosal from the South Suburban Division to investigate the allegations. The police have arrested the three main accused—Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay—along with the guard, and remanded them to police custody until July 1. UNI XC BM
