Court revises MACC freeze order on London assets linked to Naimah

(Bernama pic) Kuala Lumpur: The High Court has allowed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to amend a freeze order on assets linked to Naimah Khalid in London worth 132 million pounds (about RM758.2 million). Deputy public prosecutor Maziah Mohaide made the application before Justice Azhar Abdul Hamid today, saying the original order was inconsistent with the format required by the UK authorities. She said the amendments would include the full addresses, title details, and value of the properties, as required by the UK authorities. The assets in question comprise two commercial buildings at St Mary Axe and One Crown Court, and three luxury residences at Bryanston Square, Bryanston Mews and Lancaster Gate. The other assets include two residences at Gloucester Place and a CAF Bank Ltd (UK) account held by The Ilham Foundation. Counsel Syed Afiq Syed Albakri, representing Naimah, told the court that he would have to refile an application to intervene as the proposed amendments would render the original freeze order null and void. The court previously stayed the ex parte order to hear Naimah's application to intervene in the case, which was set for today. Foreigner held for assault in Tawau

Negligence of Pan Borneo contractor blamed

BEAUFORT: A motorcyclist escaped serious injury or worse due to the alleged negligence of the Pan Borneo Project contractor, who failed to place proper warning signs near a pothole, recently. The accident occurred at Kampung Naluyan, Mesapol Sipitang, along the Pan Borneo Highway (Sindumin–Melalia stretch). According to an eyewitness, Abdillah AJ, the victim, identified as Bakar Januddin, crashed into a deep pothole at approximately 11:30 am. Abdillah said he was on his way back from Sipitang and had just reached Kampung Naluyan, near the junction to Kampung Lubok Darat, when he witnessed the motorcyclist veer off and fall into the roadside hole. 'Fortunately, some passersby noticed the incident and helped the victim out of the hole. He was rushed to the hospital, but his motorcycle was badly damaged,' Abdillah said. The victim sustained a fractured right arm. The witness stressed that no warning signs or signal lights were placed at the location to alert road users of the hazard. 'I've seen too many accidents caused by the carelessness of the Pan Borneo highway contractors. It's costing people their safety,' he added. Residents living along the stretch between Sipitang and Lumadan want the government, particularly the Public Works Department (JKR), to closely monitor the road conditions and ensure the contractor fulfills safety obligations. Sipitang District Police Chief Supt Awang Anak Suanda said police have received a report from the victim's family. 'The victim must file a formal report at the police station to proceed with claims against the Public Works Department and the responsible parties for the damages incurred,' he said. Duo held in Tawau drug raids

The suspects, a 35-year-old local woman and a 46-year-old foreign man, were believed to be involved in drug abuse, said Tawau district police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin. He said the operation, carried out by the district's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, followed continuous intelligence gathering at the locations. 'The first arrest took place at about 2.40am at a house in Felda Umas, involving a woman and the seizure of about 0.09 grams of syabu,' he said on Saturday. The second raid, at a workers' quarters in Kalabakan around 4am, led to the arrest of the male suspect and the seizure of about 0.11 grams of syabu. Jasmin said both suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine in initial urine screenings. 'We are still tracking down other suspects believed to be involved and are stepping up intelligence efforts to investigate the active drug distribution network in the area,' he said.
