'All 13 of these students will benefit from the full settlement of their loan debts through the PTPTN education loan Group Takaful Protection Scheme.
'Additionally, all 13 heirs will also receive a death benefit of RM1,500 for each student,' he said via a post on his official Facebook page today.
In the accident that occurred between 12:30 am and 1:00 am on June 9, 15 UPSI students died after a bus chartered from Jertih to Tanjung Malim overturned after being involved in an accident with a Perodua Alza on the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding.
The accident also resulted in 33 others being injured, including the bus driver and second driver, as well as the driver and three passengers of the Alza MPV. — BERNAMA

MELAKA: A male social media content creator was fined RM1,800 by the Lower Syariah Court in Ayer Keroh here after pleading guilty to two charges of dressing and behaving like a woman. Judge Amirrudin Abdul Latip meted out the sentence after the accused, Muhammad Hakim Noraji, 25, pleaded guilty to both charges in a case prosecuted by Syariah Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faizul Ashar on Monday (July 7). The accused, who was unrepresented, was charged with wearing attire and behaving like a woman in a public place without reasonable justification. The offences took place at two different locations, between midnight and 3am on June 10 at the A'Famosa building and at about 1.30am on Monday in front of the Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam building at Jalan Kota, here. Both locations are in Banda Hilir, within the Melaka Tengah district. The charge was framed under Section 72 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (State of Melaka) Enactment 1991, which prohibits men from behaving in a manner deemed feminine. The offence carries a fine up to RM1,000 or a maximum of six months' imprisonment. The court imposed a fine RM850 for the first offence, with an alternative of one month's imprisonment if he fails to pay and RM950 for the second offence. The accused, who was unmarried, subsequently paid the fines.

Housewife pleads not guilty to offensive posts against Malaysia king
SHAH ALAM: A housewife has pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to charges of misusing network facilities by posting offensive remarks about His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, on Facebook. Suhaila Abd Halim, 39, allegedly made the comments under the profile name Suhaila Halim at Sungai Buloh Hospital in Petaling district at 8.30 am on January 5, 2025. The mother of six is accused of violating Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries penalties of up to RM50,000 in fines, one year in jail, or both, with an additional RM1,000 fine per day if the offence continues post-conviction. Judge Norazlin Othman granted bail at RM10,000 with one surety and ordered Suhaila to report monthly to a nearby police station. She was also instructed not to interfere with prosecution witnesses. The case has been set for mention on September 17 for document submission and lawyer appointment. SHAH ALAM: A housewife pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here Monday (July 7) to improper use of network facilities by knowingly making and initiating the transmission of offensive comments against His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, via Facebook. Suhaila Abd Halim, 39, was charged with committing the offence via Facebook using the profile name Suhaila Halim with intent to annoy others at Hospital Sungai Buloh at 8.30am on Jan 5. The mother of six was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year, or both upon conviction. She faces a further fine of RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction. Judge Norazlin Othman allowed the woman, who was unrepresented, bail of RM10,000 with one surety, and also ordered her to report to a nearby police station once a month and not to disturb prosecution witnesses.
