Plans to upgrade Kadazan Mostyn road in the works

KUNAK: The plan to upgrade Kadazan Mostyn road from gravel to asphalt is now in the consultant appointment stage for design work. Deputy Chief Minister III and State Minister of Public Works, Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, told Daily Express that construction is expected to begin by mid-2026 under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13). Currently, only about 600 metres of the road is paved from the Simpang Empat roundabout, while the rest remains gravel. The road connects Kampung Mostyn Lama, Kampung Sri Bahagia, SK Mostyn, and the Sabah Electricity Main Intake Substation (PMU) in Kunak. Built in the post-independence era, the Kadazan Mostyn road was once a major route for transporting timber to Kunak port and for the district's abaca industry. Locals urged the government to upgrade the road, which now serves as a key access route to Kunak town and surrounding areas. The gravel road often suffers damage after heavy rain, especially in hilly and winding sections. Road repair and coastal reinforcement in Mengabang Telipot-Batu Rakit to finish by October
KUALA NERUS: The persistent issue of coastal erosion caused by strong monsoon waves in Batu Rakit is set to be resolved with the completion of road repair and coastal reinforcement works along the T145 Jalan Mengabang Telipot-Batu Rakit route by early October. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi confirmed that the 280-metre project, which began in April, has progressed to 72.24 per cent, surpassing the original schedule by 13 days. The RM4.95 million project, funded by the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris), is being executed with technical assistance from the Public Works Department (JKR). 'The project has shown commendable progress in both implementation and financial management,' Nanta said after inspecting the repair works in Kampung Tanjung Batu Rakit. He emphasised that the ministry, through JKR, will ensure the project meets quality standards and stays on schedule. The scope of work includes rubble clearing, geotechnical improvements, retaining wall construction, geotextile system installation, sand filling, and soil stabilisation. Repair Of Collapsed Aring-Kenyir Road To Start In November
KUALA NERUS, July 13 (Bernama) -- Repair work on the Aring 8-Kenyir-Kuala Jeneris Road, along Jalan Tasik Kenyir, near Hulu Terengganu, which collapsed due to heavy rains late last year, will only begin this November. Terengganu Public Works Department (JKR) director Ir Dr Hasli Ibrahim said the government has approved RM36 million for the repair of the serious road collapse. "We are now at the final design stage before procurement takes place, so according to our plan and Insya-Allah…this November," he said during a working visit by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to Kampung Tanjung Batu Rakit here today.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that since work began last April, the progress of the 280-metre project has so far reached 72.24 per cent, which is about 13 days ahead of the original schedule. 'The project, with an allocation of RM4.95 million, has shown commendable progress in both implementation and financial management. 'This project is funded by MARRIS (Malaysian Road Records Information System) with the allocation channelled to the state government. The Public Works Department (JKR) is providing technical assistance to ensure the project is carried out in the best possible manner,' he told reporters after inspecting the repair works on the collapsed road and shoreline in Kampung Tanjung Batu Rakit, here today. Meanwhile, Nanta said that the main scope of the work involved clearing rubble, geotechnical works, construction of retaining walls, installation of geotextile systems, sand filling works and stabilisation of the soil structure. All these works were carried out meticulously to ensure the long-term durability and safety of the infrastructure, he said. "The Ministry of Works, through JKR, would like to assure that this state project will continue to be closely monitored so that it can be completed according to schedule, quality specifications and cost. 'Residents in the area and road users are advised to continue to cooperate and comply with all safety instructions throughout the implementation period of the work," he said. -- BERNAMA
