Fact check: Social media channel of migrant's journey posts AI-generated videos

Leader Live5 days ago
The videos on the channel appear to be AI-generated.
On four days between June 9 and June 13, the channel 'migrantvlog' uploaded 22 videos to the social media platform.
At the time of writing, the most-watched video had around 374,000 views on the platform. In total, five of the videos had more than 100,000 views. The channel had 1,647 followers and more than 11,000 likes.
Comments on the videos show some viewers realised that the videos are AI-generated. However, others seemed to be reacting as if they are real.
What evidence is there that the videos are AI?
There is clear evidence of AI generation in many of the videos. Most tellingly, several of the videos have watermarks for Veo – an AI video generation tool.
One video posted with the caption '5 star meorot we going' includes a section at around seven seconds where a man on the right of the frame seems to momentarily lose his arm. This video is one of several with a Veo watermark. The watermark appears in the bottom-right corner, where it might be obscured from some viewers by TikTok's display icons.
Between that video and another posted later the same day, the main protagonist's voice seems to change. The second video includes scrambled text on the front of a building, a hallmark sign of AI. At around five seconds, a man appears to pull a large camera out of his crotch, while at seven seconds a person sat in a chair appears to become translucent.
Another video shows a protest with men waving flags. The man behind the right shoulder of the person filming moves his arm in an unnatural way and the flag in his hand seems to appear and disappear.
A video shows a man running with a group while holding a burning Union flag. The flag is on fire, however the material does not appear to be blackening, and the way the men behind the protagonist interact seems almost ghost-like as they move through each other in unnatural ways.
In a video in which the man says 'thank you British taxpayers for feeding us this good food', a fork can be seen appearing seemingly out of thin air in the background while a man appears to pass a plate through his own hand.

Service with a smile: a set of Scottish winners

We're also rather miffed that the name of the sport hasn't been changed from tennis to Murrayball. After all, if a net-nudging loser like Tough-Luck Timmy Henman can be awarded his very own hill, then a three times grand-slam champ like the magnificent Sir A should have the entire game named after him. And while we're at it, let's stop calling the home of British tennis the All England Club. Even though Centre Court and all the little baby courts are nestled in the heart of London's suburbs, a more inspiring moniker for the location would be the All Scotland Club. Thankfully today's Diary is a Timmy-free zone, with oodles of triumphant Scottish content. That's because the following classic tales from our archives aren't second or third best. They're winners, every single one of 'em. (Don't) fancy a nibble A Milngavie reader once booked a mobile pet-groomer to give her dog a clipping for the summer. Her husband walked in and declared: 'Twenty-five quid? I get my hair cut for less than half that.' The pet-groomer archly replied: 'Yes, but I'm assuming you don't bite.' Magical response Street theatre can be a dangerous activity, especially if you happen to be a gang of lippy youths. One of our readers was watching an outdoor magician in Glasgow's Buchanan Street who was being heckled by some cheeky young wags. Eventually the magician asked: 'Where are you boys from?' 'Alloa,' said one. 'Great place to come from,' said the magician, before adding: 'Awful place to have to go back to, right enough.' Double trouble Sassy street performers, continued. A Lenzie reader watched another act strutting his stuff in Buchanan Street. At one point this chap said to a volunteer, 'Is this your girlfriend?' while looking at the young woman with him. When the proud volunteer replied, 'Yes,' the performer said: 'Fantastic! So much prettier than the one you were with yesterday.' Bowing out The Edinburgh Fringe fast approaches, with its thousands of eager wannabes. We recall visiting the razzle-dazzle jamboree on one occasion, when a comical Glaswegian said to the Diary: 'How do you get an actor away from your door?' He then added, perhaps a tad unfairly: 'Pay him for the pizza.' Facing the music Good news for folk who like growly guitars and grumpy middle-aged geezers… Oasis are gigging again. We recall when they first split, and a chap said to his pal in a Glasgow boozer: 'Did you hear that Noel Gallagher said he quit Oasis as he couldn't work with his brother?' 'Well,' replied his mate, 'we knew that three albums ago.'

I've done that with my last few limited edition scents, which have all been excellent. "This is no different and does not disappoint and I love it! It's very distinctive and for me, lasting well. I just love it! The packaging is also lovely, another JM triumph. I'm a big fan." A third said: "The scent is perfect! Summery and sweet but the hint of musk means its not overpowering and the packaging is super cute. It layers really nicely with Wood Sage and Sea Salt over top to tone down the sweetness and create a new scent." Rare coin collector shows 50p piece 'worth fortune' – and it's not Kew Gardens

Certain rare coins can be worth an absolute fortune – but only if they feature a special detail. Now one collector revealed the 50p coin you need to keep your eye on Have you checked your rare coin collection recently? If the answer is a big fat no, then now's a great time to start scrambling through your stash. Certain designs could be worth double their value, while others might even see you pocket hundreds, or thousands – if you're really lucky. ‌ Now over on TikTok, account @ which boasts 473,300 followers, revealed the 50p pieces "worth a lot of money" and it could be hiding away in your collection without you even realising it. ‌ In a video, which scooped just over 700 likes, a voiceover can be heard explaining: "These Shield 50ps are worth a lot of money! So let's talk about why they're worth that kind of money. "First of all, you've got the NIFC the years that include 2009, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2018 and 2021. And then you've got the rarest and lowest minted Shields in circulation which is 2017, but that's not really expensive. ‌ "But NIFC means none of these went into circulation so they're pulled from BUNC sets, proof sets." NIFC 50p coins often refer to the change which were not intended for general circulation and are typically found in sets produced by The Royal Mint for collectors. Examples include the Royal Shield 50p coins from 2009, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2018, and 2021. Which in this case, the TikTok account owns, but certain ones are worth a lot more as they're a proof version. The user added: "I've got 2011 Shields, the 2009 and 2010, so this one is a proof as you can see. And these are worth a lot of money as you can see, I've only ever found 2010 and 2018 in my change before so literally it looks like a normal 50p. "People might spend it as they don't really look for dates and might not know about them. But these sell for £40-£80 each, depending on the condition but obviously the brand new ones will just go for a tiny bit less because of the quality of them." Finding a rare coin can be quite exciting, but before anything else, you must do some research to identify the change and its potential value. After, you should consult a professional or reputable coin dealer for an appraisal. Consider getting the coin graded by a reputable service to also authenticate its condition and value. Finally, decide whether to sell it at auction or add it to a collection.
