Education minister pledges full support for surviving child in tragic Kedah car incident
In a Facebook post, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek extended her condolences, describing the tragedy as deeply heartbreaking.
'This evening, the acting director of the Kedah State Education Department, Abdul Rahim Mat, visited young Putri Qisya Nur Izzat and her family at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar, Kedah.
'I will ensure that Putri Qisya receives the best support. The Kedah State Education Department will assist in managing all her needs,' she said in the post.
Fadhlina also said she prays that Putri Qisya Nur Izzat, 12, and her family will be granted the strength and patience to face this ordeal.
The victims were husband and wife, Mohamad Azim Izat Ishak, 32, and Nurul Hidayah Khadijah Razman Efendi, 31, along with their children Putra Rayyan Nur Izzat, 9, Hawa Adriana Nur Izzat, 8, Annayla Humaira Nur Izzat, 7, and Tuah Haydar, 6 months. — Bernama

SRC board, not Najib, responsible for company's funds, says ex-PM's lawyers
SRC International is suing ex-prime minister Najib Razak (left) and former CEO Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil for US$1.18 billion. KUALA LUMPUR : The High Court here was told today that SRC International Sdn Bhd's board and management had exclusive control of the company's operations and loan funds received from Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP). Lawyer Farhan Shafee Abdullah – representing former prime minister Najib Razak in SRC International's US$1.18 billion civil suit against him and former SRC CEO Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil – submitted that his client had no control over the company. Farhan said all transactions were carried out by the board, which also bore responsibility for overseeing the company's affairs. 'If any misappropriation occurred, it was the result of the board's own decisions. 'Even taking Najib's alleged instructions at their highest, responsibility ultimately rested with the board to properly manage the funds within those parameters,' he said. Farhan also dismissed SRC International's claim that Najib acted as a shadow director or the de facto controller of the company. He submitted that Najib was not part of the company's governing board and did not assume the fiduciary duties of a director. 'The evidence shows the SRC board exercised independent judgement and was not accustomed to act on Najib's instructions,' he said. Farhan added that SRC International had not produced any instance of Najib issuing a binding directive to the board on operational matters. He said the company's own witness, former BSI Bank wealth management head Kevin Swampillai, had testified that he did not receive, see or become aware of any instruction from Najib directing the transfer or investment of SRC International's funds. 'All instructions for the movement of funds came from Jho Low (Low Taek Jho) and SRC officers, including (former director) Suboh Yasin – not Najib. This is a striking admission from the plaintiff's own witness. 'Despite Najib's position, no directive from him was ever communicated to the bank handling the money,' he said. The hearing before Justice Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin will continue at a later date. SRC International is suing Najib and Nik Faisal – who remains at large – for allegedly misappropriating company property and conspiring to convert it for their own use. Judgment in default of appearance has been entered against Nik Faisal. The suit originally included former SRC International chairman Ismee Ismail and former directors Suboh, Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, Azhar Osman Khairuddin and Che Abdullah @ Rashidi Che Omar as co-defendants. SRC International later dropped the case against them, but Najib named them as third parties in his defence. Najib is currently serving a jail sentence in Kajang prison for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International.

Batu Pahat police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the 67-year-old man first came across the investment advertisement on social media in December last year (2024). Drawn by the advertisement, the retiree contacted an individual through WhatsApp to obtain more information. "The victim was promised a 50 per cent return from the investment within three months. Believing the offer, the victim made several investments between April and July this year. "In addition to transferring RM1.7 million to several accounts as instructed by the suspect, the victim also downloaded an application and registered an account to monitor the investment,' he said in a statement today. Shahrulanuar Mushaddat said that according to the victim, the investment account showed a profit of RM2 million. However, when he attempted to withdraw the money, the victim was told to make additional payments, which he refused to do. "At the time the report was filed yesterday, the victim had not received any returns. JOHOR BAHRU - A man was arrested in a case of road rage after he allegedly kicked a vehicle after a collision and showed a lewd gesture in a two-car accident in Gelang Patah on Saturday. Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP M. Kumarasan said in the incident at 8.37 pm, the suspect's car had apparently rear-ended the victim's vehicle, before an argument ensued between the two parties. "The suspect then kicked the car of the complainant, who is a 24-year-old local man, and flashed the middle finger at him. "After the victim had lodged a police report, the 20-year-old suspect was soon arrested on the same day by the roadside in the Gelang Patah area," he said in a statement today. He said in early screening, the road rage suspect tested positive for drugs, but has no criminal record. "The suspect has been remanded for four days from Monday until July 10 for further investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code (for mischief and causing damage), Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 (abusive behaviour) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (drug consumption). "If convicted, the suspect can be sentenced to imprisonment, a fine or both, depending on the provisions of the law involved," he also said.
