Although he did not identify them, it is believed that he was referring to leaders in Sabah Umno and Barisan Nasional. 'There are leaders who were Members of Parliament (MPs) or even federal ministers in 2012. They should explain why they are only raising objections now (on the TSA). 'Why did they not protest when the Bill was tabled in Cabinet and Parliament in 2012 until it became law? These are records of parties and leaders that cannot be erased from history,' he added. The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said this is why it is crucial that the backbone of the state government must be a local party to keep Sabah's priorities at the forefront. 'The core of the Federal and State Governments should come from different parties that ensures the relationship between the Federal and State Governments remains inter-governmental, not merely intra-party. 'This kind of relationship underpins the current alignment where the Federal Government's core is Pakatan Harapan (PH), while the State Government's core is GRS. The national parties form the backbone at the federal level, and local parties form the backbone at the state level, a political model that must be maintained,' he said. Armizan was speaking at the annual meeting of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) of Melalap, here, on Saturday. He said a clear example of the importance of maintaining this political model is in the drafting of the Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Act 2025, which was passed in Parliament in March 2025 (Dewan Rakyat on March 6, 2025, Dewan Negara on March 25 2025). He said the CCUS Act only applies for peninsula after getting Sabah, Sarawak's input. 'The original plan was for the CCUS Bill to cover the entire country. However, following feedback from the Sabah government under GRS and the Sarawak government under GPS, the Federal Cabinet agreed to limit its application to Peninsular Malaysia and FT Labuan. 'This was made possible because the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is committed to recognising the special position of Sabah and Sarawak as provided in the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),' he said. While emphasising that Sabah does not reject national parties, Armizan who is also Member of Parliament for Papar pointed out that Sabah Cabinet also includes PH elected people representatives. 'This ensures state matters are always discussed within the structure of inter-governmental relations, and not negotiated internally within a single party first,' he said. Armizan attributed the difference in outcomes between 2012 and 2025 to two factors: first, in 2012 both the federal and state governments were led and dominated by the same national party, unlike today where the federal core is a national party and the state core is a local party. Use rural funds to uplift women and families, not just fix pipes - Jannie
Jannie KOTA KINABALU (July 7): Kapayan assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang has urged the Sabah Government to ensure that the additional rural development funds under the supplementary budget bring about long-term, meaningful change for women and families, rather than being limited to short-term infrastructure fixes. Debating the supplementary budget — which includes over RM175 million allocated for improving water supply and pipe systems across the state — Jannie welcomed the move but emphasised the need for deeper commitments to strengthen resilience in rural communities, particularly through empowering women. 'This is a much-needed step that shows the government is listening to people's frustrations over unreliable water supply and poor quality. But solving pipe leaks alone won't lift people out of poverty. We need to help families, especially women, stand on their own feet,' she said. She noted that while RM68 million has been allocated to the Ministry of Rural Development, the funds should not be restricted to physical infrastructure projects. 'I believe we need to look beyond just giving aid. We must build people's capacity to uplift themselves. That starts with women,' she added. Jannie proposed that part of the rural development allocation be channelled into targeted programmes for women's economic empowerment, stressing that thriving women lead to stronger families and communities. 'I urge the government to establish a Special Women's Microfinancing Scheme in Sabah, so women in villages and small towns can start businesses and generate income,' she said. She also called for direct, streamlined assistance for vulnerable women — including widows, single mothers, and abandoned wives — to help them support their children's education and daily needs without having to navigate 'burdensome bureaucracy.' Jannie further pushed for: Fair recognition of Indigenous women's rights under native customary land (NCR) programmes, stronger legal protection against domestic violence, sexual harassment, and child marriage — including within Sabah's customary legal system and stable annual funding for women's NGOs, particularly those serving remote communities. In her continued advocacy for gender parity in leadership, she repeated her call for at least 30% of community leadership positions such as village chiefs, native chiefs, JKKK heads, and local councillors, to be filled by women. 'If we want our policies and development plans to truly reflect the needs of all Sabahans, we must invest in women leaders from every background. Let women's voices be part of every decision,' she urged. She also welcomed the additional allocation for care centres for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, but called for improved training for caregivers to ensure that care services remain humane, inclusive, and gender-sensitive. 'I fully support this additional budget, but it must be spent transparently and efficiently, with the community involved in monitoring every ringgit. If we do it right, this will not just fix pipes and drains — it will lift families and bring dignity and security to women across Sabah,' Jannie stressed.

GRS-PH alliance built on stability, not corruption fears - Norazlinah
Norazlinah KOTA KINABALU (July 7): Kunak assemblywoman Datuk Norazlinah Arif has dismissed as baseless and malicious the claim by Kota Belud member of parliament Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) allied with Pakatan Harapan (PH) because it was 'forced to' due to corruption scandals. She described the allegation that GRS continued its collaboration with PH merely to shield leaders involved in court cases as a desperate attempt by the opposition to gain political mileage by sowing distrust among the people. 'I strongly refute Munirah's statement linking the GRS-PH cooperation to alleged corruption cases. Such accusations are not only irresponsible but also an insult to the political maturity of the GRS leadership, especially Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor,' she said in a statement today. Norazlinah stressed that the strategic partnership between GRS and PH was not formed under duress, but built on solidarity, mutual trust, and the need to ensure continued political stability in Sabah. 'We cannot deny PH's role in standing firmly behind the state government during the attempted power grab known as the 'Langkah Kinabalu' incident. Without their support and trust at that time, the GRS government might have fallen,' she said. 'This is not about any 'cases' or being 'forced'. It is about acknowledging their contribution and protecting the state's stability.' She described the GRS-PH collaboration as a manifestation of mature politics and gratitude — qualities she said were lacking in Parti Warisan, which had previously allied with PH during the 2020 state election but chose to contest alone in the 15th General Election (GE15). 'What happened in GE15 clearly shows that the people do not support opportunistic politics. Warisan only won three parliamentary seats, which is a clear signal that the people reject a party that fails to build alliances and focuses solely on its own agenda,' she added. Addressing the two GRS assemblymen currently facing court cases related to mineral license applications, Norazlinah urged all parties not to politicise the issue. 'Court cases should not be used as tools for slander or to create false perceptions. Every accused person has the right to defend themselves, and we must respect the legal process. GRS has never obstructed or interfered with judicial matters,' she said. She expressed confidence that the GRS-PH cooperation would continue to benefit the people of Sabah and play a vital role in the upcoming state election, adding that GRS would remain the leading force in championing the 'Sabah First' agenda. 'We are confident that GRS will continue to lead the state government. We do not just want to win — we want to ensure the ongoing fight to uphold Sabah's rights within the Federation continues through a stronger and more inclusive platform,' she said. Norazlinah also criticised Isnaraissah's claim that the Federal Government is reluctant to work with Warisan because its president is 'too outspoken' in defending Sabah's rights, calling it mere political rhetoric. 'If being outspoken alone is the key to developing Sabah, why did the Warisan government collapse? What we need are leaders who not only speak up but deliver results, build strategic partnerships and ensure stability. That is exactly what Hajiji and the GRS leadership have done,' she said. She urged the public not to be influenced by narrow political rhetoric but to judge a government by its ability to safeguard the people's welfare and secure Sabah's future. 'The GRS-PH cooperation is not about saving any individual, but about ensuring that Sabah does not return to instability. Now is the time to keep moving forward with a spirit of nationhood, not hatred,' she added. Norazlinah also pointed out the irony in Warisan's criticism, as the party remains part of the federal Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'If Warisan truly rejects working with PH, why are they still in the same government in Putrajaya? Or are they actually worried that the strategic partnership between GRS and PH in Sabah will become a political reality that threatens their position ahead of the next state election?' she asked.

India court rejects Turkey-based Celebi's airport security clearance, lawyer sources say
NEW DELHI (Reuters) -An Indian court rejected on Monday a plea by Turkey-based Celebi against a government order revoking the security clearance of the firm to provide aviation ground services in the South Asian nation, three lawyer sources said. Turkey came out in support of Pakistan during its military conflict with India in May, angering many Indians and prompting New Delhi to cancel Celebi's clearance in the "interest of national security". Celebi Airport Services India, in a May 16 filing seen by Reuters, asked the Delhi High Court to set aside that decision, arguing it would impact 3,791 jobs and investor confidence, and was issued without any warning to the company. The Delhi High Court rejected the company's plea on Monday to overturn the revoking of security clearance, three lawyers involved in the case told Reuters. More details of the court proceedings are expected to be published online. India argued that courts have previously held that in some cases national security concerns can outweigh the requirement of fairness. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said in May that airport ground operators have detailed access to the physical infrastructure as well as passenger details, including VIP movements.
