Advice to Youth and Wanita leaders
Published on: Monday, July 28, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 28, 2025 By: Hayati Dzulkifli Text Size: Hajiji (7th right) taking a group photo with the eight leaders of GRS component parties and some 10,000 delegates of Gagasan Rakyat in its AGM on Sunday Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Hajiji called on all Gagasan Rakyat machinery from top leadership to the Women's, Youth and Beliawanis (Young Women's) wings down to grassroots to mobilise for PRN17 and win the hearts of voters, especially the youths. 'Work wholeheartedly for our beloved party. Use the time we have to stay close to the people. Listen to their heartbeat, understand their needs, and prove that Gagasan Rakyat is more than just a name. 'The time has come for us to enter this electoral contest with burning spirit and unshakable confidence, to fight for the people's welfare and the future of our beloved Sabah. 'God willing, we will return with a bigger, fresher, more meaningful, and more stylish mandate from the people of Sabah,' he said. Referring to the women wing as the backbone of the party he called on them to continue and intensify their on-going efforts particularly through the Ziarah Sayang Wanita initiative, a highly effective approach in reaching out directly to the people especially the grassroots. 'Our party becomes closer to the hearts of the people — and earns their trust — because of your presence at the very pulse of the community,' he said. He described the party youths as the warriors and protectors of its ideals and drivers of its fighting spirit. They must remain relevant and bold in their strategies, especially through the Gagah Muda (GAHMUDA) platform, which has now become the key avenue for engaging young voters creatively and strategically. 'I call on you to reach out to the 970,000 young voters — they are the voice of the future that we must connect with meaningfully. 'In addition, you must strengthen our party's digital presence. Social media and the digital sphere are the new frontlines of our struggle. We must fully master this space to ensure our message and ideals reach into the minds and hearts of the younger generation,' he said. As for the Young Women's Wing (Beliawanis), Hajiji who described them as the party's vibrant and energetic arm — a reflection of fresh potential – he said the party places great trust in Beliawanis to become agents of change, especially in winning the hearts of the 103,000 first-time voters — a decisive generation casting their votes for the very first time in the upcoming state election. 'Be voices of principle, vision, and readiness to shoulder leadership responsibility,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Enemies will step up slander, lies: Chief Minister
Published on: Monday, July 28, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 28, 2025 By: Hayati Dzulkifli Text Size: Hajiji who is also GRS Chairman said this to send a strong and direct response to the many allegations and accusations hurled at GRS and its leaders with PRN17 just around the corner. Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans, including GRS members, have been urged to be vigilant and wary against opposition dirty tactics of deliberately fabricating issues to mislead the public in the lead-up to the 17th State Election (PRN17). CM-cum-Gagasan Rakyat President Datuk Seri Hajiji said these challenges do not stem from a strong opposition or from our own weakness, but rather from the lies, falsehoods, fabricated stories and above all, slander that they must confront. 'PRN17 brings with it a thousand and one challenges, not because the opposition is strong or GRS is weak, but because we are facing a barrage of lies, fabrications, false stories, and above all, slander. 'Nowadays, social media has become the most popular platform for spreading propaganda and misinformation, which the opposition is using to gain political mileage. 'Every day, they concoct false stories, viral misleading videos and fabricated infographics that are widely circulated, pushed by opposition to tarnish the GRS and manipulate public opinion for their political gain. This is how the opposition launches its attacks against us in the digital realm —and we must fight back with everything we've got!' he said. 'Not all the issues being sensationalised are true or credible! Many are concocted and manufactured with the sole intent of deceiving the public into believing them. Such tactics can lead to endless political unrest. 'Spreading slander and falsehood is the hallmark of dirty politics and we strongly condemn it. Let us not fall into the trap of such unscrupulous tactics. 'Not only are they morally and legally wrong, but any party that wins through dirty politics, slander and lies will not stand the test of time because eventually, the truth will be known,' he said. Hajiji who is also GRS Chairman said this to send a strong and direct response to the many allegations and accusations hurled at GRS and its leaders with PRN17 just around the corner. Despite ongoing criticism and attacks aimed at discrediting the government's efforts, Hajiji said GRS' track record of success cannot be denied. 'I know there are those who are jealous of our success. They want to see us fall apart, humiliated, and defeated. That is why they continue to make baseless accusations to deceive the people. They will never stop. They will relentlessly attack and belittle our hard work,' he said. 'Take good care of GRS. This is our home and it's up to us to protect it, because this is where our struggle is anchored,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? No ordinary election
Published on: Monday, July 28, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 28, 2025 By: Hayati Dzulkifli Text Size: Hajiji said the PRN17 would serve as a decisive moment for Sabah's political future, emphasising that the development plans introduced by the current administration (GRS-PH Plus) is already yielding tangible economic benefits. Kota Kinabalu: The imminent PRN17 is no ordinary State election but one that will determine the next course for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and the future of Sabah and its people. GRS Chairman who is also the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor (pic) said the people must not gamble with their future by treating it as another election. 'It is also not like playing 'katam-katam' (dice games) or betting on four-digit lottery numbers! 'This (PRN17) is reality — a serious responsibility that will determine the future of our people, our state and the next generations,' he said. Hajiji who is also Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) President said this in his policy speech at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Gagasan Rakyat, Sunday. It was attended by almost 10,000 delegates of Gagasan Rakyat. Among those present were former Chief Minister cum Parti Bersatu Rakyat (PBS) Premier Advisor Huguan Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, StarSabah Deputy President Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President cum former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Datuk Chin Su Phin, Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) President Tan Sri Anifah Aman, Usno President Tan Sri Pandikar Amin, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat) Deputy President Datuk Yong Chi Fui, PKR Sabah Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, DAP Sabah Chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, Upko Deputy President Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin and Sabah Amanah Chairman Datuk Lahirul Latigu. Hajiji said the PRN17 would serve as a decisive moment for Sabah's political future, emphasising that the development plans introduced by the current administration (GRS-PH Plus) is already yielding tangible economic benefits. 'This is our best opportunity to obtain the people's mandate and form a strong, stable state government. GRS has introduced development plans which are not empty slogans but have already shown tangible results, with positive economic growth in the State. 'To carry on with these development plans, we need a strong mandate from the people. Hence, the PRN17 is a golden opportunity that must not be missed,' he said. According to Hajiji, a victory for GRS in PRN17 would give them a stronger voice in efforts to develop Sabah. 'It will put us in a firmer position to assert and defend Sabah's rights. If we fail to form the State Government, we will have squandered a golden opportunity to place local political power at the forefront of Sabah's political landscape. 'If that happens, it is entirely possible that the well-functioning policies and development plans currently working well might be overturned or scrapped — just as these had happened before. And the ones who will suffer are the people, and the ones who will lose out are also the people of Sabah,' he said. 'When we formed the government nearly five years ago, we began our journey with clear determination and vision — like an architect building a palace with strong pillars and foundations. 'In that same spirit, we built our administration from the ground up based on the aspirations and values of grassroots communities, driven by the strength of local parties. We did not promise the moon and the stars — but we promised to do our very best for the people. Hajiji said he is optimistic that the people especially voters are wise in choosing who deserves to lead the state. 'I am positive and confident that based on our track record, the people (of Sabah) will again choose GRS to lead Sabah for the next five years. 'God willing, when we win, all our development plans can continue and be realized, ensuring continuity in administration and ongoing success,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Preserving habitat around mantanani
Published on: Saturday, July 26, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jul 26, 2025 By: Hayati Dzulkifli Text Size: Dr Kasim (3rd left) and Johnny (2nd right) showing the signed MoU documents while two researchers and another look on in the event at UMS, recently. Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and a Sabah-based JSK Mantanani Island Resorts Sdn. Bhd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in marine biodiversity research, education in and around Mantanani Islands, off Kota Belud. The partnership marks a significant milestone in a journey that began in 2023, when the company took bold steps to address the ongoing poaching of nesting sea turtles on the island. Driven by concern over declining turtle numbers, the company sought technical guidance from UMS through its Borneo Marine Research Institute (IPMB) for an integrated conservation programme. Managing Director Datuk Johnny Wong Chen Yee said the company island resort is not just about providing a memorable escape but deeply rooted in sustainable tourism and responsible stewardship of the environment. He said Mantanani, a jewel in the crown of Sabah's Marine biodiversity is one of Malaysia's most breath-taking natural treasures. 'However, as we all know, these precious ecosystems are facing unprecedented challenges — Climate change, unsustainable practices and pollution. 'We must actively participate in their preservation and restoration. 'Through this partnership, JSK Mantanani Island Resort and UMS will embark on a collaborative journey focused on two critical areas: Marine Life and Habitat Restoration,' he said at the signing. Johnny represented JSK Mantanani Island Resort Sdn Bhd while UMS Vice Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor for UMS at Chancellory building recently. Johnny said as Sabah continues to position itself as a global eco-tourism hub, such partnership is vital in ensuring marine biodiversity thrives in tandem with responsible development. The collaborative initiatives will encompass a range of vital activities, including: Seagrass restoration: Rejuvenating these crucial underwater meadows that serve as nurseries for countless species and act as significant carbon sinks. Sea turtle conservation: Protecting these magnificent creatures through monitoring nesting sites, rescuing injured turtles, and raising awareness about their plight. Coral reef rehabilitation: Working together to propagate and transplant corals, restoring the vibrant underwater gardens that are vital to marine life. Research and monitoring of marine biodiversity: Understanding the health of our marine ecosystems to inform effective conservation strategies. Community engagement: Empowering local communities with the knowledge and tools to become stewards of their own environment. Educational programs for their guests and the public: Raising awareness about the importance of marine conservation and inspiring action. 'We will soon launch a dedicated Wildlife Gallery at the resort, exhibiting educational specimens provided by the Sabah Wildlife Department. 'We are also proud to share that our turtle hatchery centre can hold up to 1,000 eggs – a vital step in protecting and increasing the local turtle population,' he said. Johnny said with support and advice from UMS marine scientists, his company obtained formal approval from the Sabah Wildlife Department to launch a turtle conservation initiative He said several JSK staff members were trained and appointed as Honorary Wildlife Rangers, enabling legal authorities to monitor beaches, relocate turtle nests, and manage the JSK Turtle Hatchery. 'This initiative bore fruit quickly, where two green turtle (Chelonia mydas) nests have been protected to date, achieving a hatching success rate of over 90 per cent. 'Protecting Mantanani's natural heritage is core to our values. With UMS as our scientific partner, we can ensure that our efforts are effective, sustainable, and backed by solid data,' he said. Prof. Datuk Dr Kasim said the partnership is more than conservation, it's about building a resilient, informed, and science-driven approach to marine stewardship. 'We're proud to support JSK in becoming a model for private sector-driven conservation,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? RM1.4 billion project unveiled in Likas
Published on: Thursday, July 24, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 24, 2025 By: Hayati Dzulkifli Text Size: Nick (right) posing with Puan Sri Irene Loor (fourth left), Kevin (second right), its Executive Director Ryan Chu (left), its Group Manager Joshua Ho Yee En (third right), Douglas (fourth right) and others while showing the model of 'The V' Project at the company's Sales Gallery here on Wednesday. Kota Kinabalu: Jesselton Waterfront Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Jesselton International, in a joint venture with Yayasan Sabah, officially unveiled on Wednesday its latest project, 'The V', a RM1.4 billion Gross Development Value (GDV) integrated waterfront development along Tanjung Lipat in Likas. 'The V would occupy 10.04 acres along Likas Bay. Fo' under of Jesselton International Tan Sri David Chu said 'The V' name in Roman numeral for number five draws inspiration from five elements that symbolise harmony and balance in life, reflecting a design philosophy that integrates nature, wellness, and connectivity. From its flowing architectural design to wellness-focused amenities, he said every feature had been thoughtfully crafted to create a destination where people can live, work, and connect in harmony, blending lifestyle and business within one ecosystem. 'Kota Kinabalu is one of the last places in Asia where you can still live by the sea at a price under RM300,000. That's an increasingly rare opportunity. 'Today, it's common to spend the equivalent of a property's value on a car, which depreciates over time. In contrast, property offers much more than a lifestyle statement — it represents long-term security, rental potential, and a tangible asset for future generations,' he said. Jesselton International Managing Director Nick Chu said the project marks another milestone in the company's property development journey. 'Our company's core focus has always been building quality and iconic developments, from our first project Jesselton Residences which we completed in 2017, to Jesselton Twin Towers completed early last year. 'Completing these developments and achieving innovating feats inspired us to build 'The V' and this project will be the largest development in our portfolio to-date, comprising three towers of commercial suites condominium, and one corporate office tower, where all four towers have accessed to their own stunning facility decks and the views of Likas and the bay. 'It has 78 blocks of commercial shops which are connected to a central air-well podium, and will house some of the finest businesses,' he said, at the preview. Nick said 'The V' represents five elements forming the rhythm of nature namely the metal, wood, water, fire and earth. 'As we unveil 'The V', our vision is simple: that is to also bring together the five essentials of modern living — nature, design, wellness, community, and ambition — creating a destination that feels nothing short of five-star. 'The opportunity is rare as developments of this size in prime Likas, positioned with such a great view, selling at very competitive prices for easy entry. 'Early bird deals are for a limited time,' he said, while adding that the sales gallery would be open to the public starting July 2025. Walk-ins are welcome to explore the show units and discover more about this landmark development, he added. Nick also commended its joint venture partner, Yayasan Sabah Group, which was represented by its Chief Operating Officer Douglas J. Joinol and his team, for being very supportive in providing the opportunity to realise their vision through 'The V'. Jeseelton International Group CEO Kevin Thong said 'The V' marks an exciting chapter for the company as they continue to shape Kota Kinabalu's skyline. 'The project which will commence in Sept, this year and expected to be completed in four and a half year, features a new benchmark in Waterfront living. 'Occupants and units owners get to enjoy permanent gazetted sea frontage along Likas Bay, offering uninterrupted views and exceptional exclusivity — a rare privilege in Sabah. 'The project will have Borneo's first 100-metre infinity lap pool, pickle ball courts, zen gardens, co-working lounges, kids' splash and play zones, and sky bars, among others,' he said. Kevin said they are targeting 80 per cent foreigners from China, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan showing interest for the commercial service suites or AirBnB. 'We are developing 'The V' project to accommodate Sabah's booming tourists in coming years where they could stay in our service suites as we know existing hotels also could not attend to the high demand of tourists coming to the State especially during peak season. 'In fact, the Sabah government has targeted 3.5 million tourist arrivals in 2025 following a successful 2024 where this exceeded the three million target. To a question, Kevin said Yayasan Sabah as its JV partner is taking up half of Tower D which is around 14 to 15 floors out of 31 floors in the tower, with the purpose of making the floors as their offices.
