ITV Coronation Street issues ‘be vigilant' warning to soap fans using social med
Coronation Street has issued warnings to fans in a social media statement. It has become known to people behind the scenes at the soap that fans are falling victim to another type of scam. Back at the start of this year, both Corrie and Emmerdale accounts shared on social media platform X that scammers were pretending to be stars from the shows. The statement said: 'Please be aware that actors from both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are currently being impersonated by scammers across all social media platforms. 'No cast member will ever directly request money for messages, meetings or any kind of personal interaction on social media. 'We are aware these sophisticated impersonations can include deep-fake footage (where it appears to be the actor talking but isn't) and personal messages which seem to be realistic and in character. We urge everybody to be vigilant. Please report any concerns to the relevant platform.' They concluded: 'The legitimate way of meeting with real members of the cast is via official 'meet and greet' events run by ITV Star Tours.' This time, audience members are being targeted by con artists pretending to be from the Coronation Street casting department – claiming to offer them a part in their favourite soap. Metro understands that fans of Emmerdale have been approached too. To warn people about the cruel trick, the Corrie X account once again shared a message online, this time saying: 'We are aware that there are some accounts impersonating the Casting department at Coronation Street on social media platforms. 'Our Casting team only uses official methods of communication, this does not involve direct messages on Twitter or any other social media. 'Please be careful when communicating online and report any concerns to the relevant platform.' This comes after Emmerdale favourite Lisa Riley told her fans not to believe AI bots pretending to be her online. The actress, 48, is best known for her role as Mandy Dingle, said on Instagram: 'Hello everybody, it's Lisa here. Now, I have to keep reiterating this, please, and please listen.' 'If something is not on my page – and my page is blue-ticked – then it is not real,' she stated, referencing the social media network's notable person verification system. 'It is AI pretending to be me, and there is nothing I can do about it. It's a hoax, it's a scam and it's a lie. 'So please, I'm begging you, don't click on it, don't believe it, don't read it, don't give it any attention. It's not true. More Trending 'I have to keep reiterating this because I am inundated with people saying that I'm attached to things that I'm not. So please, if it's not on my page, it's not real and I have not endorsed anything of that like.' She concluded: 'Listen to what I'm saying, and don't take it as the truth because it's not. From me to you, I'm so sorry that it's going on because it's not real and I have to keep telling you guys this. 'But just don't believe it. It's a hoax and a scam. It's not the truth, thank you for listening.' View More » This article was originally published on 17th June 2025. The soap actress, 36, posted a photo of baby Carter Benjamin Machin, giving her followers a glimpse of her sweet bundle of joy. Sonia, best known for portraying her character Mel Maguire in Corrie, could be seen gazing at her new baby in the photo she shared. She wrote: 'Sunday 22nd June at 10:26pm my life became complete. My beautiful boy Carter Benjamin Machin arrived, 7lbs of pure perfection. You are loved more than you will ever know little man.' Fans and friends flocked to the comments to congratulate Sonia, who is also mum to three-year-old Sienna. Fellow Corrie star Lucy Fallon wrote: "Gorgeous, congratulations xxxxx." Mum-fluencer Lucy Elizabeth Adamson replied: "Stop it," followed by a series of crying emojis. Ashely Taylor Dawson, who plays Darren on Hollyoaks, added: "Congratulations to you and your beautiful family! So happy for you all! Massive love." Actress Sonia announced she was growing her family in February, when she shared an adorable clip showing her eldest, Sienna with her little hands over the scan photo. Another clip in her reel showed her posing in a mirror, her growing bump on show. Proud mum Sonia wrote: "All of my dreams have come true, half way there and we can't wait to meet you our beautiful baby boy." Her post was met with hundreds of comments from well-wishers. Sonia had her baby shower less than a month ago, where her friends and family joined her to celebrate the imminent arrival of her second child. She posted a reel on Instagram from the event, where she could be seen doing a happy dance, posing with members of her family and showing off her baby-blue themed decor. At the time, Sonia wrote: "The most perfect afternoon spent with the most beautiful people showering my little Prince. Thank you so much to the kindest, most thoughtful beautiful besties I could wish for organising my baby shower we love you." Devoted soap fans will remember actress Sonia Ibrahim's role as villainous Mel Maguire in Corrie. She called the cobbles home between December 2016 and October 2017. Mel became embroiled in Bethany Platt's (played by Lucy Fallon) harrowing grooming narrative, helping villain Nathan Curtis (portrayed by Chris Harper). Mel's final storyline involved a tense kidnapping attempt on Bethany, aimed at preventing her court testimony against Nathan which, thankfully, ended with Bethany's release. Sonia has in the past expressed how proud she was to be part of the iconic soap. She told Lancs Live: "I was literally over the moon and I cried my eyes out when my agent told me [I was joining]! "It's such an amazing place to work and it's been an honour to be here. I was really excited to meet everybody, because I'm a fan of Coronation Street and I watch the show anyway." Since leaving the cobbles, Sonia took a part in BBC's Waterloo Road as Jamilah Omar. Most recently, she joined the Hollyoaks cast as the enigmatic Kat, linked to resident Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey). Her first appearance in the Channel 4 drama aired in November. Her first episode saw her join Ethaniel Davy, who stepped into Jacob's shoes.

Love Island fans accuse bosses of ‘fixing' public dumping to get rid of Megan after Conor drama
It was an explosive evening in the villa last night 'FIX' ROW Love Island fans accuse bosses of 'fixing' public dumping to get rid of Megan after Conor drama LOVE Island fans have accused bosses of "fixing" last night's public dumping, in a bid to get rid of Megan after all the Conor drama. The latest episode saw Megan and Remell dumped after the public were asked to choose their favourite boy and favourite girl. Advertisement 4 Megan was dumped from the villa in the public vote Credit: ITV 4 It came after she was in the bottom three girls, along with Shakira and Toni Credit: ITV 4 It comes after Megan dumped Tommy for Conor this week Credit: ITV 4 Remell was also dumped from the villa in the public vote Credit: ITV In last night's show, Giorgio got a text and everyone was sent to gather at the Firepit. The bottom three girls were then revealed as Shakira, Megan and Toni. And the bottom three boys in the firing line were Ben, Harry and Remell. Shockingly, Megan and Remell received the least votes from the public and were then immediately dumped from the villa. Advertisement But Love Island fans have now got a theory about why Megan was the one to be dumped from the villa out of the girls. They think because of the public turning on Megan over the last few days, bosses were keen to see the Irish beauty leave the villa. Taking to social media, one said: "I'm guessing the producers didn't like Megan. "I bet they wouldn't have allowed the other Megan to go, had she been bottom. Advertisement "Sometimes they let the public votes decide other times they let the Islanders choose... either way it's very very manipulated." Another echoed this "Basically the producers were happy to let Megan go, otherwise they'd have had the Islanders pick. Seething Love Island fans slam 'vile' Ben and demand he's axed in public vote after explosive row with Yasmin "They would've 100% saved Megan. "I think they wanted to get rid of her once they saw her unhinged and abusive behaviour. Advertisement This week's drama in the villa saw Megan finally confirm that she and Tommy were over, after spending recent days ramping up her connection with rugby lad Conor. No sooner had she told a delighted Conor about the development, he suggested they spend the night in the hideaway. The explosive move came after they shared two snogs on the Terrace behind smitten Tommy Bradley's back, infuriating fans. Megan and Tommy had seemed to be one of the dating show's most secure couples until this week, when her head was turned by Conor - sparking other Islanders to brand the situation 'wife swap'. Advertisement Fans also turned on 'nasty' Megan after she gleefully called Conor and Tommy's row over her "brilliant".
