As Aanand L Rai's Raanjhanaa approaches its 12th anniversary on June 21, 2025, the film continues to resonate deeply with audiences. A special fan screening of the 2013 romantic classic was held in Mumbai ahead of the milestone, and it turned into a nostalgic evening for movie lovers. Dhanush, who played the iconic Kundan Shankar, arrived at the event along with director Aanand L Rai and actor Kriti Sanon, who will be seen next with Dhanush in Rai's upcoming project Tere Ishk Mein. Notably, Sonam Kapoor, the original film's lead actress, was missing from the celebration.
On the red carpet, Kriti Sanon looked striking in a scalloped wine-hued cut-out bodice paired with a flowy coral-orange skirt. Her open hair, soft makeup, and confident aura completed the look—elegant and playful, much like her onscreen presence. Dhanush, on the other hand, opted for an effortlessly sharp black suit with a matching tee and layered necklaces. His sleeves were rolled up, adding a hint of casual charm to his tailored look.

Speaking about Raanjhanaa, Dhanush had once shared, 'Aanand Rai did not choose me for Kolaveri Di, but for my National Award-winning film Aadukalam. Frankly speaking, I did not have to go through any rigid preparation for the role."
Reflecting on his Hindi dialogues, the actor recalled the challenge of dubbing all his lines, 'It was tough but the writer Hemanshu and editor Hemal guided me all through the pauses and punches." He also credited Sonam Kapoor for supporting him during filming, adding, 'She helped me understand so many things… it must have been difficult for her to act with me."
Director Aanand L Rai has always believed Dhanush was the perfect choice. 'I needed someone who could look vulnerable on screen. When I saw Aadukalam, I liked him immediately—he looked honest and ordinary, which was the demand of the character," he had told India Today.
Raanjhanaa was re-released in theatres on February 28, 2025, rekindling love for its music and storytelling. Rai noted, 'It's fantastic that people still listen to Raanjhanaa's music and shower the same kind of love. It's a film very close to my heart."
