Lamine Yamal talks Messi, Ansu, Flick, No. 10 shirt, ambitions – ‘I will try to continue that legacy'
The 18-year-old winger was confirmed as the new No. 10 today, while he also signed his new contract with the club until 2031 in a special ceremony.
After briefly speaking to the club media about the special day, Lamine then interacted with other media at the Barça Store, where he discussed what the renewal and inheriting the No. 10 shirt meant to him.
Kicking things off, the teenage wonderkid said: 'What this renewal means is that I will continue to play for the club of my life, I will continue to enjoy it. There is no pressure on me, I will continue to enjoy myself with another number.'
On whether the long-term contract is the first step towards him becoming a Barcelona legend, the youngster replied:
'Renewing with Barça until 2031 is a big step, it's the beginning of a road that I hope will be very long and full of victories. We'll see, we'll try to enjoy it more than last year and hopefully I can fulfil my dreams here.'
Talking about the No. 10 shirt, made iconic by Lionel Messi, Lamine said: 'Messi has made his own path, I'm going to make mine, and the number 10 comes from Ansu now. So, I will try to make all the happy, those who are there and those who are at home.'
On how he plans to carry forward the legacy of greats like Messi, Maradona, and Ronaldinho, all of whom donned the No. 10 shirt at Barça, he replied:
'I hope so, they are three legends of football, three legends of this club. I would take everything from each of them. Grateful for the club's trust, and I will try to continue that legacy.'
Just 18 years old, Lamine is already one of the biggest stars and has to deal with a lot of praise and attention coming his way. Talking about how he deals with it all, the La Masia gem stated:
'The truth is that both criticism and praise, if they are not from my family or from people very close to me, I am indifferent, because otherwise, one day I will be very high and another very low.'
Discussing the challenges he has set for himself moving forward, Lamine remarked: 'I haven't won the Champions League, so winning the Champions League and the World Cup.
'To win the title we have been missing, which has been the Champions League, and to keep growing and playing as well.'
On whether he dreamt of wearing the No. 10 shirt for Barcelona, the Spanish international said:
'When I was a kid, my dream was to make my debut for Barça, I will wear the number 10 and every kid who lives with Barça dreams of that, I will try to wear it with great honour and I am very grateful for the confidence.'
When asked about what manager Hansi Flick had told him ahead of the special ceremony, Lamine replied:
'Flick told me there's a double session tomorrow and to get to bed early.'
Talking about his teammates, he added: 'Everyone congratulated me; we're a very close-knit dressing room, and I'm very grateful to them.'
The youngster also expressed his deep gratitude towards his grandmother, who was present at the ceremony today, saying:
'The event had been delayed because of her, because she was in Morocco. I want to try to repay her for everything she has done for me, which is not going to be possible, because she has done a lot.'
Finally, regarding the attention he receives off the pitch, Lamine said: 'At the end of the day I work for Barça, I play for Barça, but when I'm away from the Ciutat Esportiva I enjoy my life and that's it.'

Manchester City Urged To Move In For This Crystal Palace Defender: Should Pep Go For Him?
In a recent interview with Sports Mole, Stuart Pearce urged his former club to move in for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this summer. Pearce said, 'When they won the Champions League a couple of years ago, I think they won it on being very, very tough to score against. 'That was their key that season. Everything fell into place. 'The back four was pretty consistent and played extremely well together. Kyle Walker dealt with any problems. They had that extra bit at the back. That was their strong card. 'It does worry me a little bit. If I was in their situation, Marc Guehi would be one I would go after. I'm a big fan of this kid. He's got the ability to deal with things one-on-one on the counter-attack. 'You've got to be good at that if you're a Manchester City player in the expansive way they play. But if anything's going to be their Achilles heel, it's going to be that back line again.' Guehi's Impressive Form In English Football Last Season The English defensive ace had a solid campaign at the London club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. Guehi deserves a ton of credit for helping Crystal Palace win the FA Cup last season. He netted three times and picked up a couple of assists in 44 appearances for the Eagles in the previous campaign across various competitions. (Photo by) The 25-year-old was a rock at the back and did well to make 61 tackles, 55 blocks and 28 interceptions in Premier League football. Guehi was even tidy when distributing possession after completing 83.5% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Go For Guehi? Guehi is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn't mind clearing the danger when required and can play his way out from the back. Guehi would add a lot of quality to Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola's defence. He is good enough to secure a regular starting place at the Etihad Stadium next season. At 25, Guehi has his peak years ahead of him which makes him an excellent option for the Mancunian giants to pursue this summer. Hence, Guardiola should focus on listening to Pearce's advice by going for a defender of his skill set this off-season.

Atletico Madrid eye move for homegrown Barcelona talent
According to a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are showing serious interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado. The 21-year-old La Masia graduate, once tipped as one of the club's most promising talents, now finds himself at a crossroads due to limited playing time and heavy competition in the Blaugrana midfield. Casado started the 2024/25 season on a high, emerging as a surprise performer with maturity and tactical awareness beyond his years. However, as the season progressed, he saw his role diminish significantly. The return of Frenkie de Jong and Gavi from injury, along with the rise of Fermin Lopez, has made it increasingly difficult for Casado to secure regular minutes. Not in the first-team plans Under Hansi Flick, Casado is still considered a rotation piece, but nothing more than that at this stage. The German coach values players like Pedri and De Jong for their leadership and presence on the pitch, which has further pushed Casado down the pecking order. Atletico Madrid are interested in Marc Casado. (Photo by) With Barcelona's midfield packed with talent and depth, his future at the club remains uncertain. The Barcelona board is reportedly open to listening to offers if the terms are favourable. While Flick has not completely ruled out keeping Casado, the club would consider parting ways if the proposal makes financial and sporting sense. Atletico see opportunity For Atletico Madrid, they are looking to bolster their midfield and they want to capitalise on a situation where Barcelona may be forced to offload talent. As such, Diego Simeone is keen to inject youth and energy into his squad and views Casado as a player with strong potential and LaLiga experience. The La Liga club has already been active in the transfer market, but they remain interested in strengthening further, especially in midfield. Casado ticks several boxes for Simeone as he is versatile, defensively reliable, and still developing. A formal approach could happen soon, with negotiations likely to hinge on the player's valuation and potential inclusion of performance-based clauses.

Report: Chelsea superstar facing uncertain future is linked to Barcelona
In a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, it has been revealed that Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is now being linked with a move to Barcelona. It is to be noted that with Chelsea recently splashing over €90 million on new attacking signings, namely, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, the London club is reportedly open to offloading some of their current forwards. As such, Jackson, who previously impressed at Villarreal, appears to be one of the names on that list. The Senegalese striker, who joined Chelsea in 2023, now finds himself falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. With limited opportunities and fierce competition for places, he is said to be exploring options outside the Premier League. A return to LaLiga could be an ideal scenario for him, especially since he's already familiar with the Spanish top flight thanks to his time at Villarreal. Barcelona keeping a close eye Nicolas Jackson is linked to Barcelona. (Photo by) Barcelona, meanwhile, have been monitoring the situation. Although the club is not actively pursuing new signings, as confirmed recently by club president Joan Laporta, the possibility of a strategic move for Jackson has been floated. The idea is that he could join Barça now and spend the season learning under the guidance of Robert Lewandowski, who is currently in the final year of his contract. With recent rumours linking Lewandowski to a possible move to Saudi Arabia, Jackson's name has naturally gained traction. Though a move may still be unlikely under the current financial limitations and Laporta's stance, Jackson fits the profile of a long-term project. He is young, physically gifted, and already used to La Liga's demands, which is an advantage that could make his transition seamless. While the idea remains distant for now, the door is not entirely closed. Jackson learning from one of the best strikers of this generation while adapting to Barça's system could be a shrewd investment for the future.
