Season 4 of 'Ted Lasso' Is Officially in Production—and We Have a First Look

Elle21-07-2025
The hit Emmy-winning series Ted Lasso has been 'exhumed,' as star Hannah Waddingham put it. The Apple TV+ juggernaut, which was once believed to end after season 3, is officially making its return. Here's everything we know about Ted Lasso's next season.
Yes! In March 2025, it was announced that Ted Lasso would return for a fourth season.
In a statement about the renewal, per Variety, Sudeikis said: 'As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to 'look before we leap,' in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it's exactly where they're meant to be.'
Here's the official logline from Apple:
Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, and Brendan Hunt are all confirmed to return.
When asked about returning for a fourth season of Ted Lasso, Waddingham said, 'It feels like it was the most beautiful, beloved dog that was buried, and now we've exhumed it, and I am here for it. I was hankering and hankering and hankering and hankering to see where Rebecca had gone, where she was going to. She's my girl. She's in my bloodstream, so I'm thrilled that it's been exhumed.'
She continued, 'I can't wait to get involved with that and put my penneth in and go shopping for her looks.'
Season 4 will also have a few new additions: Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education), Jude Mack (Such Brave Girls), Faye Marsay (Adolescence), Aisling Sharkey (Jurassic World Dominion), Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane), and newcomer, Rex Hayes. Their roles have not yet been announced. Grant Feely will also join the cast and step in as Ted's son, Henry, a role previously played by Gus Turner.
Yes! On July 21, Apple TV+ announced that production was underway. Principal photography began today in Kansas City, and additional filming will take place in London.

Hulu Switches ‘Futurama' Season 13 From Weekly to Binge Release; Shares Premiere Date and First Look Photos (EXCLUSIVE)

Hulu is switching to an all-at once binge for 'Futurama' as it returns in September for Season 13. Variety has learned that all 10 episodes from the new season will premiere at the same time on September 15 at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET. That's a switch from most recent two seasons of the revival, as Hulu released Season 11 in 2023 and Season 12 in 2024 on a weekly basis. 'Futurama' originally ran on broadcast, via Fox, for its first four seasons, from 1999 to 2003; it was then revived on several direct-to-DVD specials from 2007 to 2009, and then via Comedy Central between 2010 to 2013. The Hulu re-revival began in July 2023. Hulu noted that per Nielsen, 'Futurama' was among the top 10 streaming originals of 2024. Hulu announced in November 2023 that 'Futurama' had been renewed for two more seasons, taking it through Season 14 in 2026. (Yes, there's plenty of confusion about season counts for 'Futurama,' thanks to both those DVD releases, and then Comedy Central's move to split seasons into multiple sub-seasons. In the Comedy Central days, 'seasons' were sometimes stretched over multiple years and cycles.) Here's the show's Season 13 synopsis: 'Bender is rampaging out of control! A volcano is about to explode! Fry confronts a rival for Leela's love! And Dr. Zoidberg is rising up to heaven?! The excitement might be too much! You've been warned… it's an all new season of 'Futurama'!' 'Futurama,' from 20th Television Animation (a part of Disney Television Studios), stars John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil Lamar and David Herman are all back. The show was created by Matt Groening and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen. Executive producers include Groening, Cohen, Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz. Animation is provided by Rough Draft Studios. 'Futurama' has won two primetime Emmys for outstanding animated program. The logline: 'Despite its far-future setting, the show is renowned for its satiric commentary on life in the present. The series follows Philip J. Fry (Billy West), a New York City pizza delivery boy, who accidentally freezes himself in 1999 and gets defrosted in the year 3000. In this astonishing New New York, he befriends hard-drinking robot Bender (John DiMaggio), and falls in love with cyclops Leela (Katey Sagal). The trio find work at the Planet Express Delivery Company, founded by Fry's doddering descendant, Professor Hubert Farnsworth. Together with accountant Hermes Conrad, assistant Amy Wong, and alien lobster Dr. John Zoidberg, they embark on thrilling adventures that take them to every corner of the universe.' Variety's Awards Circuit Podcast Roundtable Dissects the Emmy Nominations — Including This Year's Biggest Shockers

It's a 'Severance' world. The Apple TV+ series dominated this year's Emmy nominations with 27 nods, and despite the show's critical and ratings acclaim, Variety's Awards Circuit podcast hosts were still taken aback. 'Huge,' said Variety chief awards editor Clayton Davis. 'I don't think I even thought that much. That is more than 'Shōgun' last year.' More from Variety 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert' Has Never Won an Emmy - That Could Finally Change After CBS Canceled It The Era of Emmy Sweepers: How Recent Trends Point to 'Adolescence,' 'Severance' and 'The Studio' Winning Big Jay-Z vs. Beyoncé, Emmy Firsts for 'American Graffiti' Stars Ron Howard and Harrison Ford - and More Trivia From 2025's Nominations Davis was joined by Variety executive editor, TV, Michael Schneider, as well as senior TV features editor Emily Longeretta and senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay for the Awards Circuit Roundtable. Listen below! The quartet also looked at some of the other big news from this week's nods, including another Apple TV+ powerhouse, 'The Studio,' which led all comedies with 23. 'We all knew 'The Studio' was going to do well, but I didn't expect that,' said Longeretta. Schneider noted that it was helped by sheer dominance in the comedy guest actor category, where five of the six nominees were from the show: Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie and Martin Scorsese. Of that crop, only Cranston played a character other than himself. 'If you guested on 'The Studio,' then you better have gotten a nomination or there's something wrong with you,' Schneider quipped. Among some of this year's snubs and surprises, the group was taken aback by so little Emmy love for the final season of Hulu's 'The Handmaid's Tale,' including the lack of a nod for star and exec producer Elisabeth Moss. And then there was the complete absence of any noms for Netflix's 'Squid Game.' 'The shock of that because it was, viewership-wise, the biggest show and Season 1 did so well at the Emmys,' Longeretta said. 'Then Season 2 is nowhere to be found. My hunch is that between 'The Handmaid's Tale' and 'Squid Game' they're a bit too heavy for people in the Academy. With the amount of things that are happening in the world, that's not what they want to watch.' Schneider noted that perhaps 'Severance' gets a pass from that because there are plenty of quirky, humorous moments in that series. Davis has another theory, that 'Squid Game' benefited from a COVID-era viewership and 'Shōgun' benefited from the Hollywood strikes, but in ordinary years there's still a hurdle to non-English programs. Among other surprises: Meghann Fahy's lead limited series actress nomination for 'Sirens': 'I'm not mad about it because Meghann Fahy can do no wrong,' Longeretta said. 'I've been rooting for her since day one. I was in shock that the word sirens came out of Brenda Song's mouth on Emmy nomination morning.' Said Davis: 'I think the jaw dropper name of the day was Jeff Hiller from 'Somebody Somewhere.' I wasn't even tracking a top 10 for Jeff Hiller. Congratulations, very well deserved.' Schneider also shared some of his patented Emmy trivia and oddities, including the fact that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are facing off in the variety special (live) category, while it's a bit of a coincidence that 'American Graffiti' (1973) co-stars Harrison Ford and Ron Howard finally received their first acting Emmy noms. So who are some of the category frontrunners? It's Adam Scott vs. Noah Wyle. Kathy Bates vs. Britt Lower vs. Bella Ramsey. And Tangcay also has a favorite nomination: Julianne Nicholson, for both 'Paradise' (as Sinatra) and 'Hacks' (as Dance Mom). Speaking of Nicholson, Longeretta noted that supporting drama actress is a complete jump ball: 'Patricia Arquette, Carrie Coon, Katherine LaNasa, Julianne Nicholson, Parker Posey, Natasha Rothwell and Aimee Lou Wood. There's not even a leader. Every single person is such a heavy hitter.' Schneider bows down to one more queen: Catherine O'Hara, nominated for both 'The Studio' and 'The Last of Us.' There's so much more to discuss: The surprising success of 'Presumed Innocent.' The TV movie category, with nominees that didn't get any other attention. The decline in representation with this year's noms. The return of 'Survivor' in reality competition. And so much more. Will Hannah Montana hit the road in 2026? Miley Cyrus teases show's 20th anniversary plans

Miley Cyrus is down for a Hannah Montanaissance. So, will fans get to see their favorite fictional pop star in concert? The Grammy-winning singer, who broke out in the 2000s playing teen idol Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel sitcom of the same name, reflected on the series' upcoming 20th anniversary in a July 22 interview on SiriusXM. "Hannah Montana," which starred Cyrus alongside Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso and father Billy Ray Cyrus, debuted in March 2006. "I want to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this," Cyrus, 32, said. "Without Hannah, there wouldn't really be this me. "It's crazy to think that I started as a character that I thought was going to be impossible to shed, and now that's something that when I walk into a space, it's looked at as this sense of kind of, like, nostalgia or something that you have from your childhood. ... So, that's exciting to get to celebrate that." The Emmy-nominated series, which centered on the double life of schoolgirl Miley Stewart and her stage persona Hannah, launched Cyrus to IRL music stardom. The show spawned multiple platinum-selling soundtracks, as well as the headlining Best of Both Worlds Tour, which grossed over $54 million. The teen comedy also served as a vehicle for Cyrus' burgeoning pop music career. Her debut album, 2007's "Meet Miley Cyrus," was released as a double album alongside the "Hannah Montana 2" soundtrack. In August 2024, Cyrus and Hannah made Disney history when Cyrus was inducted into the Disney Legends hall of fame, becoming the youngest person to receive the honor. During her emotional acceptance speech, Cyrus joked that "there was a buzz in that Burbank Disney office, where it's rumored that they create all of us Disney Kids." "Much has changed since that day, but at the same time, nothing has changed at all," Cyrus added. "I stand here still proud to have been in 'Hannah Montana.' This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans. To quote the legend herself, 'This is the life.' " Miley Cyrus makes Disney history: 'Hannah Montana' star becomes youngest Disney Legend Will there be a Hannah Montana tour in 2026? So far, Cyrus has not announced plans to embark on a concert tour for the "Hannah Montana" 20th anniversary. While exact anniversary plans remain under wraps, a tour seems unlikely, given Cyrus' recent comments on touring. During a May 2023 interview with British Vogue, Cyrus — whose last world tour was the 2014 Bangerz Tour — said she had no desire to go on tour. The "Something Beautiful" singer added that while she enjoys performing for her friends, "singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn't really the thing that I love." "There's no connection. There's no safety," Cyrus explained. "It's also not natural. It's so isolating because if you're in front of 100,000 people, then you are alone." 'It's so isolating': Miley Cyrus says she 'can't' tour any longer What has Miley Cyrus said about 'Hannah Montana' role? Over the years, Cyrus has shared her conflicting feelings about her "Hannah Montana" character and the emotional complications that came with early fame. During a March 2021 interview on "Rock This with Allison Hagendorf," the actress-singer described her childhood stardom as a time that made her feel inadequate when she wasn't in character, revealing she created a "characterized version" of herself to receive attention. "Talk about an identity crisis. ... The concept of the show is that when you're this character (and) when you have this alter ego, you're valuable," Cyrus said at the time. "And then the concept was that when I looked like myself, when I didn't have the wig on anymore, that no one cared about me." Miley Cyrus pays tribute to 'alter ego' Hannah Montana for show's anniversary That same month, Cyrus embraced the character's pop culture legacy in a social media tribute for the "Hannah Montana" series' 15th anniversary. "We've shared many firsts. A lot of lasts. Ups. Downs. Tears (and) laughs," Cyrus wrote to her TV alter ego. "You have all my love (and) upmost gratitude," Cyrus continued. "I am indebted not only to you Hannah but to any (and) everyone who believed in me from the beginning. You all have my loyalty (and) deepest appreciation until the end. With all sincerity I say thank you!" Contributing: Jenna Ryu, Elise Brisco, Bryan Alexander and Naledi Ushe, USA TODAY
