The New York Yankees are in the midst of a brutal month.
New York entered the month with a three-game lead in the American League East, and, entering Tuesday, it sits four games out of first place.
The Yankees have several needs to address at this year's trade deadline, but not everyone thinks the deadline will be a success for the front office.

"The Yankees aren't flush with expendable talent at the major league level, and their farm system is one of the five worst in the league," Rymer wrote. "Spencer Jones has surely upped his value with his recent heater, but he remains a borderline top 100 type on account of his huge strikeout rate (i.e., 31.7 percent) at Triple-A."
Rymer is correct about New York having a terrible farm system, as the previously mentioned Jones is the only top 10 prospect who is currently in Triple-A and one of just six top 30 prospects in Triple-A.
Rymer also notes that the Yankees are aggressively going after Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez and how much of a loss it would be if they were to miss out on the slugger.
"If the Mariners do end up as the winners of the Suárez sweepstakes, well, that would just plain be bad news for the New York Yankees," Rymer wrote.

A swing and miss on Suarez would most likely send New York scrambling for Plan B, which could be any one of Ryan McMahon, Ke'Bryan Hayes, or Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
Rymer noted that the Yankees are setting themselves up for failure and many folks will be disappointed when August rolls around.
"All this feels like a setup for a situation where the Yankees overpromise (at least implicitly, if not explicitly) and then underdeliver. Such an outcome probably wouldn't ease tensions amid the club's ongoing slide down the standings."
General manager Brian Cashman has a lot to deliver on this deadline, and if he is not able to, fans may begin to question his ability to lead New York in the future.

The Brooklyn Nets came into the 2025 NBA offseason with the goal of improving the roster for the 2025-26 season while taking chances on players that could be part of the franchise's future. Brooklyn has already made tweaks to the roster by adding veterans like Michael Porter Jr., but it seems that the team is also looking to take chances on young players as well. Per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto on Saturday, the Nets have agreed to a deal with forward Fanbo Zeng, who is currently considered one of the best prospects in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Scotto notes in his report that Zeng is coming off his best season in the CBA as he averaged 14.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 53.0% from the field and 40.9% from three-point land. Zeng, 22, first made his name known within NBA Draft circles when he attended the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Top 100 Camp in 2019, a showcase intended to show some of the best high-school players in the country. In October of 2021, Jonathan Givony reported for ESPN that Zeng would sign with the NBA's G League Ignite program in anticipation of declaring for the 2022 NBA Draft. Following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, Zeng played in 22 games for the Ignite, but averaged just 5.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 38.5% from the floor and 31.0% from deep. After going undrafted in the 2022 Draft, Zeng signed with the CBA's Beijing Shougang where he would spend the next three seasons and play some of his best basketball. With Zeng signing to the Nets' roster, that now puts Brooklyn's total of players at 20, including forward Ziaire Williams, center Day'Ron Sharpe, and forward Ricky Council IV, whose transactions are still pending as of this writing. During the offseason, teams are allowed to carry as many as 21 players before having to cut the roster down to 18 players broken into 15 players on standard NBA contracts and three players on Two-Way deals. MIAMI -- Rookie Agustín Ramírez homered twice for the only runs of the game and the Miami Marlins beat the New York Yankees 2-0 on Saturday. Eury Pérez pitched six innings of two-hit ball as the Marlins won their fourth straight and clinched the series against the Yankees following Friday's 13-12 series-opening win. After experiencing problems with his pitchcom device that caused three brief delays in the first inning, Pérez (4-3) struck out six and walked three in his 88-pitch outing. Relievers Ronny Henriquez and Tyler Phillips followed Pérez with perfect innings before Calvin Faucher retired the three batters he faced in the ninth for his 11th save.
