Vivid Sydney calls for creatives as 2026 dates confirmed
SYDNEY, June 29, 2025 /CNW/ -- Vivid Sydney, the Southern Hemisphere's largest multi-artform festival, is calling on visionary artists, performers and thinkers from across the globe to help shape its 2026 program.
Preliminary estimates for Vivid Sydney 2025, suggest the event pushed total visitation since the festival's inception in 2009 beyond 25 million people, with more than $1.3 billion generated in visitor expenditure over its lifetime.
Returning from Friday 22 May to Saturday 13 June 2026, Vivid Sydney will once again transform the Harbour City across the pillars of Light, Music, Ideas and Food—inviting audiences to immerse themselves in cutting-edge creativity and bold storytelling. The New South Wales (NSW) Government, through Destination NSW, is now seeking ideas from creators, producers, thought leaders and innovators to help bring the 2026 festival to life.
NSW Government Minister for Jobs and Tourism, Mr Steve Kamper said:

Returning as Major Partners for Vivid Sydney 2025 were Samsung Electronics Australia and Kia. Samsung activated on both land and water in Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour with Space to Dream, which explored the boundless potential of creativity inspired by Galaxy AI. Kia displayed its new and highly anticipated EV3 electric vehicle along the Vivid Light Walk.
Official Partners included Estée Lauder, returning for its second year, with their installation: While You Were Dreaming—a radiant fusion of science, beauty and imagination, along with Ausgrid, who powered Vivid Sydney's Tumbalong Nights program.
Airbnb was once again Vivid Sydney's Community Partner, supporting the volunteer program, while the festival's Charity Partner for 2025 Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation brought Dream Scene to Darling Harbour –a digital canvas where children's dreams come alive in an evolving dreamscape.

AC/DC Announce Homecoming Australian Tour For November 2025
AC/DC have officially announced the Australian leg of their Power Up world tour for November 2025, belatedly touring in support of their 2020 album of the same name. It will mark their first shows locally in a decade, following the 2015 Rock Or Bust stadium tour with The Hives and Kingswood. The full list of tour dates, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information, can be found below. The tour announcement follows months of speculation and rumours, which were all but confirmed when a giant display of the band's signature thunderbolt went up in Melbourne over the weekend, accompanied by the neon red text 'Are you ready?' – an allusion to the band's 1991 single. Joining the tour as main support will be Melbourne's own Amyl & The Sniffers, who recently had to move the date of their headlining show at London's Alexandra Palace (AKA Ally Pally) forward a few weeks from the original date of Friday, November 15th. Although no official reason was given for the rescheduling at the time, today's reveal officially explains why the show was moved to late October. The Rock Or Bust tour in 2015 was the band's first Australian tour without rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who had retired the year before and had been replaced by his nephew Stevie. The tour also took place without longtime drummer Phil Rudd, who had been arrested in New Zealand the year prior following a police raid on his house. He was replaced on the entire Rock Or Bust world tour by English drummer Chris Slade, who had replaced Rudd previously between 1989 and 1994. The band fell into further disarray in the second half of the 2010s, with frontman Brian Johnson having to shockingly depart due to developing life-threatening tinnitus from years as a motorsports enthusiast. He was replaced by Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose for the remainder of the tour. At the end of the tour in 2016, bassist Cliff Williams announced his retirement from touring. The following year, Malcolm Young passed away following a years-long battle with dementia. In 2020, it was revealed that both Johnson and Rudd had officially rejoined the Youngs and Williams. Power Up, their 17th album, was released that November. The band ultimately returned to the stage in 2023 for the Power Trip festival in Indio, California – normally the home site of Coachella – with Johnson once again fronting the band and Williams returning for the one-off show. Rudd, while still an official member, was unable to travel and was replaced by drummer Matt Laug. Since 2024, the band's touring line-up has consisted of Johnson, the Youngs, Laug and former Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney (not to be confused with The Living End's Chris Cheney) – who officially serves as Williams' touring stand-in following Williams' return to retirement. AC/DC Expand 2025 Australian Tour With Second (And Final) Shows In All Cities
AC/DC, as expected, have added second shows in all cities of their upcoming Power Up tour – which will mark their first tour of their native Australia in over a decade. The sole exception is Adelaide, which will be one night only due to the band performing as part of the BP Adelaide Grand Final. The full updated tour schedule, as well as ticketing information, can be found below. Upon going on sale last week (June 26th), the band officially broke Ticketek's record for the largest on-sale day in the vendor's 45-year-plus history – which they previously set themselves back in 2009 with their Black Ice stadium tour. According to promoter Christo Van Egmond, tickets for the Power Up tour moved at an average of 1,200 tickets per second. 'The demand has been extraordinary,' he said. 'This second Perth show will definitely be the final show that will be added to the Australian tour. We can confirm that absolutely no further shows will be added.' Joining the tour as main support will be Melbourne's Amyl & The Sniffers, with local openers for each show to be announced in the coming months. Aussie mum breaks silence from Taiwan jail
Television's widely anticipated replacement for The Project has kicked off with an exclusive interview with convicted Australian drug smuggler Debbie Voulgaris from a Taiwanese prison. 10 News+, which will air from 6pm on weeknights, promises viewers 'explosive' revelations in the case for its first episode. Ms Voulgaris, a Melbourne mum-of-five, speaks from an overcrowded women's prison in Taipei and states emphatically that she is innocent of the allegations that have put her behind bars for 15 years. Ms Voulgaris was caught with 4kg of heroin and a small amount of cocaine at Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan in late 2023. She pleaded guilty to the charge and in late 2024 she was sentenced to 15 years in prison. But she has maintained that she brought drugs in unknowingly. Now, appearing on the current affairs program helmed by journalists Denham Hitchcock and Amelia Brace, she pleads with two of her children via a video call to help get her back home to Australia. 'I'm innocent. I am innocent,' she says through tears. 'Please help me to get home as soon as possible. 'To my angels, that's all I can say.' The program claims to have evidence that supports Ms Voulgaris' claim of innocence. 'She confessed in court in Taiwan, didn't she?' Mr Hitchcock in a clip of the program seen by NewsWire. 'Well, prepare yourself. The truth is explosive.' In earlier promotional material, Mr Hitchcock and Ms Brace promise viewers the show will 'put the truth first'. Mr Hitchcock has also claimed Monday night's episode would be 'an absolute blockbuster'. 'It's a story 60 Minutes, Four Corners and Spotlight would kill for,' he told Stellar Magazine. The Project ran for 16 years, ending its run with a farewell show last Friday night. Mr Aly, in an emotional tribute, said the show had 'reflected the best of this country'. 'Could you do a prime time commercial news show that hooked its audience by playing with them instead of scaring them,' he said. 'That didn't trade on demonising groups of people who have no platform to respond? 'Not the done thing. Well, we done the thing.' The Project launched in 2009 and Friday's finale was its 4504th episode. Australian and international celebrities sent in supportive farewell video messages, with thanks and well wishes coming from G Flip, Robert Irwin, Jess Mauboy, Andy Lee, Pete Murray, Dannii Minogue, Katy Perry, Guy Sebastian and Shane Jacobson. The Project's longest-serving host, Carrie Bickmore, was close to tears thanking everyone she crossed paths with over 13 years. Ms Bickmore left the show to devote herself fully to fundraising efforts. Channel 10 is owned by US entertainment giant Paramount Global.
