City's Green Space Gets A Welcome Addition

Time of India10-06-2025
New Delhi: Lieutenant governor VK Saxena and chief minister Rekha Gupta jointly inaugurated the redeveloped Sadbhavana Park, a grand addition to north Delhi's green urban spaces, on Tuesday.
Parallel to the Walled City on Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Sadbhavana Park is spread across 11 acres of redeveloped green space. Intended to emphasise geometrical forms and designed as a formal garden to balance the gardens in the Samadhi complex on the east side of Ring Road, Sadbhavana Park will provide open recreational avenues to citizens, especially those living in Daryaganj and nearby old Delhi localities.
Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal, chief secretary Dharmendra, and senior officers from Delhi Development Authority were also present at the inauguration.
The key features of the park are the chariot fountains, baradari, sculpture fountains, formal lawns and the shaded eating plaza. According to officials, the park has white marble pathways and sculptures contrasting with the linear green areas divided into lawns and low-maintenance plantation zones, which provide a sense of grandeur. A sculpture of five white horses driven by a sarathi, set in a circular water pond with fountains, adorns the park as a unique feature in Delhi's landscape.

Additionally, four magnificent sculptures of Yakshinis, crafted by Sudarshan Sahoo, a Padma Vibhushan-winning sculptor, have been installed within the linear lawns. These artworks enhance the park's beauty and offer a serene space for people to relax. A clock tower, currently under construction, will further enhance the park's aesthetic appeal. A food van, proposed to be opened near the parking, will attract visitors and enhance their leisure experience.
At the inauguration on Tuesday, LG and CM planted moulsari saplings at the centre of the baradari. Other officers planted the Pride of India saplings along the designed pathways. The plantation of these trees and saplings will contribute not only to the beauty of the area but also contribute to air quality and ecological balance for the benefit of the community.
Delhi Development Authority said in a statement that white balloons were released into the sky as a symbol of Sadbhavana (goodwill). "Under the consistent guidance of LG, the Sadbhavana Park was conceptualised as part of a scheme to decongest the Kartavya Path lawns. It is a part of a larger landscape redevelopment project comprising three parks along Mahatma Gandhi Road. The project aims to become a vibrant urban hub where visitors can immerse themselves in nature while enjoying the amenities of a well-maintained park," the statement said.
Kranti Udyan, the first park in the series, was inaugurated in Jan. Sadbhavana Park, the second, followed five months later. The scheme integrates a green belt spread over a 35-acre area, running around 1.7km in length along Ring Road.

Will ensure rehabilitation of slum dwellers, says Delhi CM

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday assured slum residents that the government would ensure proper rehabilitation for all eligible families affected by clearance drives, as she reiterated the Rs 700 crore allocation in the budget for the development and resettlement of slum settlements. She visited the Faatak wali jhuggi near the railway crossing in Shalimar Bagh, which is set to be cleared as part of a railway expansion project at Azadpur station. Speaking to residents there, she said, 'When a crisis came upon you, I came to meet you because the Delhi government is not in favour of removing slums without reason.' She reiterated that any clearance would be accompanied by housing arrangements. Gupta criticised Aam Aadmi Party and Congress governments for neglecting slums over the past four decades. 'They only saw slum dwellers as vote banks and did nothing for their development. In fact, they contributed to the geographical chaos of the city,' she said.

Dogs in, humans out: 'Dog Babu' gets Patna residence certificate; Yogendra Yadav says 'this is acceptable in Bihar's SIR but not Aadhaar card'

Danny generated AI Image Swaraj India member Yogendra Yadav took a dig at the Bihar government for issuing a residence certificate to a dog in Patna and said that this is the same certificate that is being considered for SIR, "while Aadhaar and ration cards are being called fake. " A bizarre incident from Bihar caught everyone's attention, including Yogendra Yadav. A dog from Bihar's Patna district received the residence certificate. The residence certificate, issued from the Bihar RTPS's portal of Masaurhi Zone Office, carries the digital signature of Murari Chauhan, revenue officer of Masaurhi Zone Office. The authenticity of the certificate has put the entire system under the scanner, raising questions on how the tampering occurred. The certificate (number BRCCO/2025/15933581) has a picture of a dog and his name is 'Dog Babu'. The address is mentioned as Mohalla Kaulichak, Ward No 15, Nagar Parishad Masaurhi. Looking at the weird certificate, Yadav said in a post on X, "See it with your own eyes! On July 24 in Bihar, a dog got a residence certificate issued. This is the same certificate that is being accepted in Bihar under SIR, while Aadhaar and ration cards are being called the photo and name yourself: 'Dog Babu', father's name 'Kutta Babu', mother's name 'Kutiya Babu', and address – Kaulichak Mohalla, Ward Number 15, Masaurhi Municipal Council. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo The certificate number is BRCCO/2025/15933581." The District Administration of Patna assured that an FIR has been registered at the local police station against the applicant, the computer operator, and the officer who issued the certificate. Replying to Yadav, the administration said, "The Sub-Divisional Officer, Masaurhi, has been directed to conduct a detailed investigation of the entire matter and submit a report within 24 hours. Departmental and disciplinary action will be taken against the guilty employees and officers." BJP also replied and said that the purpose of the SIR is to identify such infiltrators and those who have obtained fake certificates (including elements like these), who have illegally acquired citizenship-related benefits. "Those who are getting flustered seeing themselves exposed are the ones now trying to give a communal color to this constitutionally compliant process. Foreign agencies and their informants in India are also active in this," BJP IT chief Amit Malviya said while replying t Yadav's post. This post triggered online debate where one user said, "Any person who deliberately applies with a fake name or photo should be fined Rs 5,000 or more as a penalty. Fraud on digital portals must be stopped, and this joke should be taken seriously — no application should be accepted without a mobile number." Another said: "This is not the misfortune of the Election Commission but of Bihar, and it shows how low the standard of employees in Bihar is."

Donald Trump tariffs: Which countries have made trade deals & which are still waiting? Top things to know

With a couple of days left before a major tariff hike kicks in, the US is in a flurry of trade negotiations with several key economies aiming to avoid steep new duties. The new US tariffs are set to take effect on August 1 after being delayed twice. Some will go from 10% up to 50%, based on how much a country sells to the US. Donald Trump has repeatedly vowed to protect the 'dominance of the dollar' in his speeches, while mocking the Brics group on July 19. Over the past week, Washington has made agreements with the European Union, Britain, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. Other negotiations remain in their final stages. India remains hopeful despite delays Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said Thursday he was 'optimistic' about reaching an agreement to avoid a 26 per cent duty. Goyal said there were 'not any sticking points' in trade talks and clarified that H-1B visa rules had not come up, according to Bloomberg Television. EU secures relief, others still in talks On Sunday, the US and the European Union signed a new deal that limits tariff levels on European exports to 15 per cent. This duty is far lower than the 30 per cent previously threatened by US President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, attention has shifted to nations still on the edge of Trump's tariff regime. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Quote Undo South Korea under pressure after Japan's success Seoul is scrambling to reach its own deal with Washington after Tokyo secured an agreement. 'Japan's success has amped up the pressure for South Korea,' a government source was quoted as saying to news agency AFP. Seoul may offer more than $100 billion in investment, possibly involving tech giants like Samsung and Hyundai, according to a report cited by AFP. The government has not confirmed this, but officials have highlighted proposals to boost cooperation in areas such as shipbuilding, semiconductors and batteries. National security advisor Wi Sung-lak said talks are now in 'the final and most crucial phase of negotiations' to stop the proposed 25 per cent tariffs. Taiwan working 'almost 24 hours' to seal deal Taiwanese officials are also racing against the clock. Premier Cho Jung-tai confirmed that his team is 'working hard' to protect the island's economic interests. vice president Hsiao Bi-khim added that negotiators were 'working almost 24 hours a day to achieve trade balance and Taiwan's industrial interests.' No clear path for Canada and Mexico Canada and Mexico were initially exempt from Trump's April tariffs but still face duties outside their North American trade pact. Mexico's rate could rise to 30 per cent on August 1, while Canada may see a jump to 35 per cent. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she is prepared to speak directly with Trump to avert the hike. However, Trump said on Friday, 'there was no deal with Canada so far.' Brazil faces political hurdle Brazil may be hit hardest, with the US threatening a 50 per cent tariff on goods including planes and grain. Though the US holds a trade surplus with Brazil, Trump openly linked the decision to politics. He accused Brazilian courts of pursuing a 'witch hunt' against former president Jair Bolsonaro. Furthermore, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has vowed that the nation will not take orders from Trump.
