Clipse, Pharrell Preview Kendrick Lamar's Highly Anticipated 'Chains & Whips' Verse
Footage surfaced of the Virginia legends hanging on a rooftop in Paris rapping along to the record in front of a crowd of people. K. Dot's verse covered a few topics, such as Hip-Hop being dead 'again,' him giving all of his money to Rakim, the West Coast being on top, his experiences in therapy, and more. 'I'm not the candidate to vibe with/ I don't f**k with the kumbaya sh*t/ All that talent must be God-sent/ I sent yo a** back to the comics,' he rapped.
There wasn't anything in particular that sounded targeted at Drake, which caused people to question why Def Jam and Universal Music Group were so opposed to clearing the song. Veteran journalist Rob Markman, who heard the song early, labeled the verse as the Compton rapper's 'State Of The Union' as opposed to being a diss. Nonetheless, as Push told GQ, his label and their parent label were concerned about the optics of two of Drizzy's foes linking up amid the ongoing defamation lawsuit. One rapper that Pusha T has held no punches about is Travis Scott. In the Clipse's recent single 'So Be It,' he went full throttle at the Houston star. 'You cried in front of me, you died in front of me/ Calabasas took your bi**h and your pride in front of me/ Heard Utopia had moved right up the street/ And her lip gloss was poppin', she ain't need you to eat/ The 'net gon' call it the way that they see it/ But I got the video, I can share and A.E. it/ They wouldn't believe it, but I can't unsee it/ Lucky I ain't TMZ it, so be it, so be it,' he rapped.
He explained his issues with the Utopia artist to GQ, which stem from him playing the fence while his rapper friends went to war with one another. It's no secret that Push holds Pharrell dear, so when Scott interrupted their recording session in Paris to play his July 2023 LP Utopia without playing Drake's verse on 'Meltdown,' the Daytona rapper took that personally since both he and Skateboard P ended up receiving shots.
'He don't have no picks, no loyalty to nobody,' Push stated. 'He'll jump around whatever he feels is hot or cling onto whatever he feels is hot. But you can play those games with those people…We're not in your mix. Keep your mix over there.' Listen to 'Meltdown' below.

On Saturday (July 19) morning, he dropped a link to a website promoting the new album and featuring vinyl, T-shirts and hats branded with the album title. The website also displayed three color-coded boxes with cryptic messages: a blue box reading, 'Body movement. No sitting still'; a yellow one stating, 'Only speak in glory. Leave your baggage at home'; and a red box that read, 'Don't tap the glass.' Billboard has reached out to Tyler, The Creator's representatives for more details about the upcoming release. In late June, Tyler and Doechii previewed their Pharrell-produced track 'Get Right' during the Louis Vuitton SS26 show in Paris. The song marks their second collaboration, following 'Balloon' from Tyler's 2024 Billboard 200-topping album Chromakopia. It remains unclear whether 'Get Right' will be included on his new album. Don't Tap the Glass follows last year's Chromakopia, which spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The 14-track album featured guest appearances from Doechii, Lil Wayne, GloRilla, Sexyy Red, Daniel Caesar, and others. Take The Stand! UMG Wants To Subpoena Drake & Kendrick Lamar In ‘Not Like Us' Lawsuit
The civil lawsuit filed by Drake against Universal Music Group (UMG) is underway, with both sides now submitting lists of potential witnesses. In a move that's raising eyebrows across the industry, UMG has notably called for both Drake and his most recent rival, Kendrick Lamar, to testify in court during Drizzy's 'Not Like Us' civil lawsuit. His complaint centers on Kendrick Lamar's hit diss track, 'Not Like Us,' which famously refers to Drake as a 'child predator.' Drake alleges that UMG not only distributed this song but also promoted it through 'illegal means.' UMG, for its part, has vehemently denied these claims, asserting that the notion they would 'seek to harm the reputation of any artist — let alone Drake — is illogical.' They have also been actively pushing for the judge to dismiss the case entirely. Despite their efforts, the lawsuit continues to move forward. 'Plaintiff, one of the most successful recording artists of all time, lost a rap battle that he provoked and in which he willingly participated,' UMG's lawyers write in the filing. 'Instead of accepting the loss like the unbothered rap artist he often claims to be, he has sued his own record label in a misguided attempt to salve his wounds.' The legal chess match intensified on Monday, July 14. According to XXL Mag , both sides presented their lists of individuals who could potentially be subpoenaed to testify. Drake's legal team submitted a sprawling list of 63 individuals and entities, signaling a wide-ranging inquiry into how 'Not Like Us' gained traction and its impact. Drake's extensive list of potential witnesses includes the rapper himself, as well as top industry executives such as UMG CEO Lucian Grange, Interscope marketing president Steve Berman, and Republic Records CEO Monte Lipman. His legal team is also seeking information from major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, YouTube, SoundCloud, and TikTok. Furthermore, entities connected to Lamar's Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show performance, such as the NFL and Roc Nation, are also on Drake's radar. Drake's lawyers are seemingly aiming to uncover any alleged 'covert tactics to promote the Defamatory Material.' Notably, Drake's team has listed Kojo Menne Asamoah, whom they claim used such tactics, but they have been unable to locate or serve him despite hiring private investigators. In stark contrast to Drake's extensive list, UMG has filed a considerably shorter list containing just nine names. However, the inclusion of two specific names on UMG's list has captured everyone's attention: Drake himself and Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick Lamar's manager, Anthony Saleh, is also named. This move is particularly significant because Lamar is not listed as a defendant in the lawsuit. UMG's lawyers argue that Lamar 'is likely to have discoverable information concerning the creation of the recording, image, and video and the distribution and promotion of the recording and video.' The legal teams' strategies hint at a high-stakes courtroom showdown. While Drake claims the lawsuit is about UMG profiting from 'dangerous misinformation' and 'artificially inflat[ing]' the song's popularity, UMG maintains Drake is simply 'weaponiz[ing] the legal process to silence an artist's creative expression' after 'losing a rap battle.'
